I couldn't live without literature...
Philosophy,poetry,fantasy...anything really....or rather a bit of everything really.
So I have been reading this incredible trilogy called the night watch trilogy by Sergei Lukyanenko. I have totally fallen inlove, its been a really long time since I was incapable of putting a book down (Several walls have been walked into)
It made me wonder though, how many books are there that have profoundly affected my opinions or thoughts consciously? and how many of them have left a mark unconsciously?
Out of all of thousands of books I have read in my life I must admit my holy grail, in terms of having a profound affect on me was a sci-fi novel...though to call it that would seriously underestimate the true worth of the book...It was Dune, by Frank Herbert.
In fact I was soo obsessed, I not only cost my mother a fortune (when I was younger) I ended up spending a pretty penny myself..I even begged my bf at the time to design me a poster with my favorite quote from the series....its called the litany of fear..
I still have it memorized and repeat it to myself in moments fear ..
If you guys are interested:
"I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain."
Was there any fantasy/Sci-fi book that had a profound affect on your approach to life?
Something that even now when you think about it you get chills?
One of those books you read and re-read till every time you approached it you could already smell and see the other world you where going to?Taste the dust?

So its nearly holiday season(trying not to think about the exams that will be before that). I will be staying home this year due to needing to work through the holidays...gotta be able to afford those tattoo's!
Anyone got cool plans for this Dec?I might be leaving on holiday for a bit in Jan after the holiday season and HOPEFULLY heading to Thailand for a bit next year round March.I really adore traveling and I think Thailand will be exactly the culture shock I need to put me out of my comfort zone.
Anyone from Thailand wanne say hi if I do go over?Let me know.

I woke up at the crack of dawn this morning to attend class.....
Now beyond feeling totally out of place with the people at our local petrol station(the only other people there at that time was gym junkies and the people who actually work there) I noticed that petrol is now R12.22 per litre(about $1.39)..........
It was about the same time i realized that phoning Aladen up and asking if I could hire a magic carpet to Varsity and back might be a more affordable and realistic mode of transportation.
Though hang on, this isn't actually what my blog was suppose to be about...
oh ye. So I had to attend this class god-awful-early in the morning to go fight with one of my lecturers about his completely inconsistent marking. I think honestly most students who study anything within the Humanities have realised that most marking done in these departments are done by thumb-sucking or praying to the gods of academia to look favorably upon you(I am pretty sure that memorandum's for tests are fascist lies to build students expectations and then dash them).
Even though I was in a terrible mood after being spoken to like an idiot by one, I mission'd to the cafeteria to hopefully get some alcohol and lunch...
and this is exactly why i have friends...

(Sorry about the terribly quality of the photo, it was taken on my phone)
Not only did I get my booze, but I got it for free...waiting for me with a cupcake!!!!
Friends are all you really need in life after all!My mom was totally right, though dont know why she didnt mention they give you free booze and cupcakes.

Tattoo suggestions/ideas
Seeing as I had my birthday recently and another year has gone by, I have decided its time for another tattoo.
I would honestly like to do something rather big though, not necessarily big as in a full covering sleeve, but maybe a sleeve or a belly piece or something i cant exactly hide without effort.
I really wanted to get black veins done down my right arm but my tattoo artist seems to be pretty offended by the idea(
artists) apparently its a waste of space. But tbh, I really cant say I like color tats that much, I mean I have one and will finish the sugar skull on the other hip but don't think I really want anymore color? The back piece I will put up really appeals to me as well in a very abstract way, getting a tattoo for a tattoos sake. But the question is, wont it look incredibly harsh on very pale skin if it is all black?would it ruin the affect?
In anycase, here are some pics of what I want...please do let me know what you think.

Just so you know, this is just a bitching post cause I needed to bitch(obviously);
Receiving emails from someone who you ordered clothing through, every emailbeing horribly condescending with a stupid emoticon added as if the person went; “OH hang on, this bitch is still a client.....ooooh I know I’ll just add :-P and they will NEVER know that I hate them..*enter Mandark laugh here*.... If I wanted to pay someone to be condescending I would go to my local catholic church, not to a secretary/shop keeper of a clothing vendor.

Birthday parties are a strange phenomenon aren't they? Most people would just prefer not getting older all together i think, I mean aging with grace is a concept I fully grasp....But how do you do it?
In anycase, I have decided seeing as my birthday is on the 8th of oct if I delay the party a bit I may as well have a halloween birthday party!
Now for all of you who don't know, Halloween isn't really such a big thing in South Africa(which sucks), we definitely don't go trick or treating for instance. But some people do put in a little effort to wear a witches hat to work or buy a ton of candy.
I have decided however I am going 1980's-American-on-this-parties-Halloween-ass and spent a fortune on decorations...I am even gonna buy pumpkins closer to the date and try and make my own jako'lanterns.
Any words of advice from Halloween pro's though? What tools can I use to shape the pumpkin that wont be too difficult to find?any recipes for pumpkin fritters or something that I can actually make from the pumpkins gooey insides?
I would really appreciate any advice as I am not really that good at crafts or cooking,so please do keep that in mind!

Hellllooooooooo!
So...I just started growing my own little veggie patch!:-D
I just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about gardening and could possibly suggest natural insect repellent plants? I have a little kitty with a pertinacity to eat very strange things not in your usual cats diet and I am scared the pesticide might affect her adversely.
Otherwise is there anything anyone suggests for compost?watering methods and sunlight etc?I want to go all natural if possible.
I never thought gardening would be so soothing but for the upcoming varsity holiday this is my little project!
What have you guys been getting upto?

Our government is totally failing the students of our country...
It truly makes me sad to read the brief to the new CAPS system(our new curriculum). We will soon be marking children on their reading skills on a scale of 1-7...and that's it.. spelling? grammar you say? NOPE. Just can the kid read or not, no explanation, no helpful comments NOTHING.(Maybe if I had more helpful comments my blogs wouldn't look like they do!
)
Also being introduced with CAPS is the principle of inclusion..For those of you who don't know, inclusion in schools means basically all special needs schools will be integrated with standard public schools. This is apparently for the benefit of the students so that they will not feel excluded or discriminated against.
Am I the only one that sees this is a bit ludicrous? yes these kids might feel included, but the only unity they will experience is the unity of all feeling like failures. No public school or private for that matter has the resources to deal with a variety of physical, learning and mental disabilities while keeping other students occupied. Also these are classes of about 50 kids, how in gods name do they expect anyone less than a super zombie-jesus to be able to keep up?
I don't know who I feel more sorry for..the poor teachers who will be under paid, over worked and will probably bare a lot of brunt from upset parents or the students who simply just wont receive education.
