My lovely girlfriend dropped a bomb on me the other night. She got a job offer that would take her to Germany for a year and a half. Whoa.
I'm used to her traveling- she goes to either Europe or Asia at least 3-4 times a year, but we were just starting to get this thing on track.
I can't move with her. My job is kind of local and I'm not there long enough to take a leave of absence. Besides I have too much going on with my family to move away from NYC right now.
If she wants the job, I have to let her go.
I figure if we can get through this, we'll get through pretty much everything.

So I was drinking in a bar after work tonight and I ran into a professor of literature at Kean College (!). He called me an existentialist. After reading the definition of existentialism I kind if agree and disagree with him. I don't much go for that whole Cartesian "I think therefore I am" crap, but I do go for the whole "you are what you do" idea.

Fucking drunken intellectuals

I'm gonna go be what I do.

Now I remember why I left this site: the Hipster trash and elitist attitudes.

Restaurant review:

Ca & I went to the Schnitzel Haus on 5th ave in Bay Ridge on Monday night. I don't think I've ever had authentic German food, except for maybe some spatzel here or there. So I kind of went into it hesitantly, but hopeful, because I dig trying new foods. I ordered the Sauerbraten which, contrary to popular belief is NOT sausage. No it's more like pot roast with a sweet & sour gravy. When they served it, I was wondering why they didn't bring a steak knife. It was so tender, I didn't need one. Served with boiled dumplings and pickled red cabbage, there was enough meat to fill me up. The dumplings were plain, but nothing a little salt & pepper couldn't fix. Hell even the cabbage was good. Ca had a sampler of 5 different wursts. I forget which ones they gave her but I had a bite of one of them- sweet & a bit smoky. I think I'm going to try that when I go next time. That was served with sauerkraut & home made mashed potatoes, along with 2 different kinds of mustard. She got some spatzel on the side, which of course I had to sample as well. It was perfect. Apparently Ca thought her portions would be a bit smaller than they actually were because she wound up taking it home. Of course when we got back here her heel got caught on the step, she landed on me at the bottom of the stairs and I wound up sweeping up spatzel and pickled cabbage from in front of my door.
My measure of a good restaurant is 1) how the food tastes, and 2) how much they give you. Schnitzel Haus passed both of those tests. I usually eat later on in the night after dinner because I stay up so late, and I didn't need to eat until the next day.
