I was headed home on the el, and sitting across from a cute pale girl holding a torts book. Seeing a way to strike up a conversation, I ask if she is going to law school. She says yes and the conversation proceeds.
After I find out what stop she gets off at, I wait until the stop before that and ask if she would ever want to meet for coffee or anything. She hems a moment and I add, "or are you seeing someone?"
"Well, actually I'm married"
"Ah, I guess I am not used to having to look for a ring."
We chat for a few more moments, we say goodbye and she exits the train.
Getting denied is no big deal. But that is the first time I have ever been shut down because the girl was married. She was only 25, tops. I guess that is about the age when people start doing that, but damn. I mean, I actually have to check ring fingers now before I chat girls up. WTF.

I really have to say that I love coming to a new school. Especially when everyone else is new too. Everyone's on the prowl for new conquest. An amazingly fine girl named Mini told me I looked like they guy in 'the cutting edge' and that that meant I was hot. Also, this super cute exchange LLM from Thailand, named Kiti is flirting heavily. I wish I could postpone going to my family's cottage for the long weekend in order to take Mini or Kiti or both out on a date. But my sister flew into Michigan, and I haven't been to the cottage in years, so I am excited about that too. Girls can wait.
Anyways, this place is very different from a certain small liberal arts college in the Pacific Northwest. I wonder how it will turn out.
