Got back from Germany late last night and been feeling rough all day. puke It's not good!
Wedding was fabulous. Fraught with problems from the moment we arrived on Thursday night but it happened and my brother is now a happily married man. love
Started off with our plane taking off late but the pilot put pedal to the metal and we made up the time during the flight.
Landed and we were meant to meet my brother after two train journeys from the airport but as we got to Hansaring (first point of change of train) we got a text from soon to be married brother saying could we catch a cab as he was ill and his fiance was tired. Abusive texts were sent and many cabs were hailed before one eventually stopped.

Arrived at their flat, Hurrah!!! biggrin Found my brother sweaty and white as a ghost and had been puking for a couple of hours. puke Great!
So left him to kip, sat up chatting and then at about half one or two in the morning his fiance tells us we have to be up early to help set up the hall the next day. eeek I am so not a morning person!!

So we get up at silly o'clock and it's bloody freezing. Fiance, other brother and best man head off in a van to fetch the copious amounts of booze they've ordered whilst sick boy stays in bed. We follow in a train (me, mum, dad and best man's g-friend) and get whipped into shape by the scariest woman in all of Germany. Don't get me wrong I know German people are more blunt etc and it's more of an understanding of other people's culture's kind of thing but she was just plain scarey!! eeek
So, we spend the day in a beautiful but freezing old church making table settings and laying out the tables. Lots of delicate wire work and feathers and leaves. Not good when you can't feel your fingers! But frequent placing of hands on pretty crap heaters meant we got through it.
Eventually returned to the flat, picked up our things and moved to the hotel. I had the weirdest yet coolest room I have ever been in. It was sooooo tiny! I felt like Alice in Wonderland. Had a couple of pics taken as it was just too funny for words but they're on me dad's cam so will post when I have them.
After this went out for dinner and brother to be married still in bed. puke
Surprisingly the wedding day was beautiful. It was freezing but lovely. Oh yeah, the best man forgot his passport for signing the witness part and had top run back to get it once we were halfway to the service! But besides that it all went by without any more hitches. Beautiful day which I was really happy to be a part of. My mum made me alugh though as she was trying to match me up with some of the blokes there! lol!!! Most of the single ones were gay! So I just had a few drinks and later scared the older folk with my tattoo collection. Tee hee! No, they were okay with them. I have the feeling my brother may have pre warned them. I wore a really silly pair of shoes though which hurt so much I couldnt walk so went to the reception in jeans and boots with my corset and blazer. Luckily it was dark and Germany seems a little less formal with these things. Their friends did all sorts of things which would be so out of keeping with the way the english do weddings but it was really beautiful. Like, near the end of the night, well, morning by this point, everyone went outside and let off helium balloons with sparklers attached. It was like fireflies in the sky. Really, really, beautiful.
Unfortunately the evil bug my brother had went through the camp like wildfire! puke Best man's girlfriend was sick at the reception, other brother started as we were leaving and I started today! puke So not good!

Sorry, this journal entry conatins a lot of puke but thats how it felt. Thats definately how I feel today!

Besides the sickness etc it a really, really wonderful weekend. Was lovely to be with my family and sharing such a special occassion. Just bummed I've gotta be back at work tomorrow! surreal
Ah well, such is life.
My puppy is now home as he was extremely ill before I went to Germany, so sick I almost didn't go! But he's now home stitched up like frankenstein but keeping his food down and full of energy again. Sorry! Puke came into it again! lol! But he was very poorly. So very, very glad he could come home today as I was sick with worry all weekend. Hey, maybe thats why I feel so crap today?! Who knows?!

I'll stop rambling now! Christ, didn't realise I'd written this much. Doubt it makes sense but hey, I don't make sense very often! kiss

Nope, I seriously hate the run up to Christmas. I don't mind the day itself, but cos I work in the pub trade, everything surrounding it is a big bag of wank. puke

I just live down the road from you in Bracknell. We just need to get a few more people from the area to organise regular meets like they do in Bristol.

I used to live in Germany. I did like it but I was very young and I suppose I was living in a British community, but I could get around in the German shops.

I'll give you a clue: a certain space saga may have something to do with it. And hey, don't get yourself all worked up - the prizes aren't real wink smile

OK, I'll give you another clue: Peter Sellers is the odd one out. But there is an actor in Dr. Strangelove who is related to the other films in this puzzle.

Also, the answer may not have anything to do with the actors in the shots. To find the answer, think of the films and the directors involved.

That's all for now, I'm running late for work.

Well, don't be too hard on yourself - the link was a bit obscure.

The answer is Star Wars, but you knew that much, right? OK, so here's how the films tie together to give you the answer: According to John Baxter's biography of George Lucas, Toshiro Mifune was originally considered for the role of Obi Wan Kenobi. And don't forget that Akira Kurosawa is a big influence on Lucas' work. This ties with Alec Guinness in the second shot, who, as we know, was cast as Kenobi. Now this is the point where you may have lost track. The shot of Lee Marvin is a still from Sam Fuller's The Big Red One, which co-starred Mark Hamil. Yeah, believe it or not, Luke Skywalker had a few roles in the early 1980's before he was reduced to doing voiceover work for video games and cartoons. So there you have it. And despite Sellers being the odd one out, you correctly identified that the voice of Darth Vader - James Earl Jones - was in Dr. Strangelove as a crew member of the ill-fated B-52 which inadvertently triggered global annihilation.

Anyway, with that out of the way, what did you think of A Very Long Engagment? I saw it eariler this year and I've just bought it on DVD. I'd like to know your impressions of this film, bearing in mind that it's the same team who worked on Amelie.

I won't say too much about A Very Long Engagement but it's not as whimsical as Amelie was. In fact given the setting, in places it's a bit grim. But as the credits rolled on screen, three women in their twenties sitting in front of me were wiping away tears before they made any attempt to leave the theatre. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

If you don't mind me asking, what are you studying at college?

I thought some universities made concessions for mature students who don't have the relevant qualifications for the course they want to take? I know the ARU in Cambridge has this policy in place.

Right, I just thought there may have been an easier route to get into university.

What're you up to this weekend apart from being Ms. multitasking of Aldershot? Taking it easy after your trip to Germany?
