I'm cancelling my account - it expires January 24th. SG lost my interest a long time ago and for the last year or two all i've done is check in on a few people and keep an eye out for interesting sets. But i wanted to just make sure whoever may want to see my contact info can get a hold of me if they want to.
hope everyone has a good life!

3 weeks ago I awoke for my first full day in Portland, OR.
since then, everything has actually gone according to plan. well, minus a few missed concerts.
I've probably spent more constructive time working on music in the last week than I do in my average month. By the end of this year I hope to have produced, engineered, and also partially written/composed a local songwriter's demo. in that time, i hope to also start more seriously producing my own demo material.
and as always, going to a lot of shows, hanging out with a lot of other musicians, and figuring out where my path is exactly. but making it my own in every way.

It's not that he stopped caring. It's that he never cared, and now he's stopped being afraid to admit it.
I sold my camera. I wasn't taking any pictures at all anymore and I wanted to buy more guitars and other music gear. In the end I bought a drumkit and I'll be getting a bass soon.
Still, I was looking at pictures in my photo library (which, no matter how many hours i spend DELETING pictures, is still well over 11,500 photos) and it made me feel pretty bad about selling that camera. it was such an integral part of me for a time...

nothing very colorful, really. maybe that's just how i'm feeling right now?

right now i would kill to be able to stay up all night listening ot music and trying to record something new.
But i have to work in the morning - then I have to come home for an hour and get ready for another job that will be like 12 hours long.
Reality bites

Building a replacement body for my bass guitar. The original may look nice, but it's cheap and sounds like junk. This is my first forray into this kind of stuff and i'm doing it with my pops, which is fun. If it turns out pretty good, I might try and make another before the end of the summer. We'll have to see
Two random photos:

One day this will all be only a memory
The only evidence there ever was a you or me
Maybe some photographs, a letterhead
Some tattered clothes or a battered car.
If we're lucky, someone might know our names
Maybe what we look like, how we talk
Or the ground on which we walk.
Impermanence
Let that sink in, get under your skin
Even the greatest empires crumble
Into writing on a book
Collecting dust on a shelf
Who will remember you?
How long do you think you'll last
A few years? Maybe a generation or two at best...
Millions of tombstones, only thousands of visitors
In vanity I dwell

If looks could really kill
Then my profession would be staring
No we do this cuz we care,
Not for the thrill

Not for the thrill
Been really digging Menomena's first album "I Am The Fun Blame Monster." They are a really unique indie band out of Portland, OR. One of their distinctions that gets them talked about is the fact that they compose all their music in a software sequencer - actually specifically a sequencer that was coded by a member of the band who is a computer programmer - and then afterwards they go back and learn how to play it on their respective instruments and record/perfom as a band. What makes them even more interesting is how their first album was an eclectic album with clear indie rock and alternative influences. Relatively conventional in it's song structure and lyrically driven. Their 2nd album consisted of 3 instrumental pieces each of about 20 minutes in length - absolutely nothing like the first. But still very good.
I haven't heard their third and latest album, but i when i have money to invest in more CDs i'm sure to buy it. Check them out. Menomena - "I Am The Fun Blame Monster" on LastFM
These lyrics seem fairly silly in writing, but in context with the way they're delivered it's just really dark and cool. I love this song right now.
Menomena - "On The Monkey's Back"
On the monkey's back
you paved the way, but i lost track
And seize the day: i want my way
But the monkey's back
He grew such finger nails
That he could scratch; he could impale
He never fails...
T-r-y
So i fed him poison grapes
He spit the seeds into my face
And he escapes.
- They germinate
Weave into my skin
Sprout seeds; chrysanthemum
Pull the weeds from my chin
- and we begin
On the monkey's back
The monkey's back...
Now the monkey's back...
The monkey's back
