Although Colorado DOES allow the concealed carry of firearms, the city of Aurora specifically BANS concealed carry even to legal permit holders.
There was no one in that theater with a gun except for James Holmes who ILLEGALLY brought them into the theater to start shooting up the place.
Gun control laws DO NOT WORK. Holmes violated at least two gun control laws before he fired his first shot (there's another law in Aurora that prohibits people [except police] from discharging a firearm in the city, one more criminal charge to get him with, GO AURORA!)
The only thing that gun control laws did in this case was give the gunman a theater full of unarmed victims. They were helpless sheep in a pen awaiting slaughter.
So yes, this tragedy could have been mitigated if there had been different gun control laws in Colorado. If citizens had been allowed to carry concealed handguns in Aurora then James Holmes MIGHT have been stopped before he murdered 12 people and injured 59 others.
