So last night, my upstairs neighbor (in our lovely duplex) called the cops on her bf.
After hanging out with their drunk asses for a couple hours, smileawhile and I went back down to my place, and eventually she went home. Around 1:30am, after fifteen minutes of things crashing around upstairs, I stopped writing it off to them being drunk and started being concerned. i heard something really huge fall, and some glass break, and jumped out of my seat and towards the door we share. As I went through the kitchen, I heard her screaming, and grabbed a knife on my way. As I got into the stairwell, her bf was leaving right behind me. I decided her safety was more important than catching him (how much could I do about him, anyway?) and banged on her door until I figured out that she was on the front porch with a cop. After the cop talked to her, I went upstairs to help her clean up.
Mattress: overturned
Drawers: thrown against the walls
Clothes: scattered
Mirror: smashed
Dining table: overturned and damaged
Several valuable antiques: destroyed
2nd Story porch wall: in our lawn
Her: scared shitless
I think what pisses me off about this the most is that, while she refused to bail him out of jail, she also refuses to
a) get a restraining order
b) press charges
c) dump his sorry ass
Instead, she's going to have a "long talk" with him, and try to get him into treatment.
This is why I hate abusive relationships: because too often, it is a vicious cycle that neither party is willing to break.
B is not willing to have her bf anywhere near our apartment, so this should be interesting.
Oh, I forgot the most important part:
She says he only does this when he's drunk. The thing is, if they have it in them when they're drunk, it will probably come out some day when they're sober. Besides, if intoxication isn't an excuse for rape, vehicular homicide, or murder, it can't be a get-out-of-jail-free card for domestic violence.
