I'm procrastinating playing

and

When you have to do something for work, it`s not so fun.
But, I've been playing a lot of

during lunch, and a lot of

in the evening.
And, I'll be doing some of this next weekend:

Yeah, I have a pretty good life. I am very grateful for all the blessings I have. If you ever catch me whining, please feel free to slap me.

Good stuff:
* I hung out with Perdita on Sunday. Oh, what an awesome girl she is. We went to the beach in Rhode Island and swam in the ocean and talked about douchebag dates and comic books. We got on like Batman & Robin, only without the homoerotic subtext. She's my new superfriend.
* The first day at the new job went as well as I could have hoped for. Everybody was really cool; meeting Curt Schilling was pretty funny (he asked if I needed anything and I asked for cheap housing in Boston). He's totally a nice guy. I've got a pile of technical documents to sort through, but that's how it usually goes with these first day things. Anyhoodle, I've been given my first assignment, and it is perhaps the single coolest thing I've ever worked on in my game development career.
Bad stuff:
* I got a mass email invitation to my ex-fiance's engagement party. It had attached a photo of her and her new guy. I don't think I was supposed to get that. This is getting ridiculous.

Back from San Diego.
Bad parts of the trip?
- I ate the cost of renting a hotel room in a bad area of town. We just could not stay there. The room had the kind of smell that I imagine a scene of a sex crime would have. The sheets were stained and the mattresses were just beds of springs. Literally. Three separate taxi drivers told us not to stay at the hotel on our first night in SD. We hightailed it to the chi-chi surroundings of the Hilton.
- I didn't get a chance to surf at all.
Good parts of the trip? Plenty:
- I got my comic geek freak on at the San Diego Comic Con. I met and spoke with Grant Morrison, one of my all-time favorite writers. We even became urinal buddies!
- I tried the DC Universe Online Pre-Alpha build. Great and Terrible Darkseid, was it good! I'm getting a woody thinking about it right now. I also talked with one of the AI and Physics engineers on the game.
- My friend Kelly gave me my birthday gift. It's a print of a comic strip she did with me as the main character. I love her. I'll scan it at some point.
- Kelly and I are going to work together on a home-brewed Nintendo DS game. Yay!
- Met Seth Green at a free screening of his upcoming movie. It sucked, but he was cool.
- I shook Joss Whedon's hand. Well, we really only finger-grabbed each other.
- Rin and I waxed philosophically over lunch about all things Canadian and liberal. She is a reminder to me of why I will always be proud to be Canadian. If you ever get the chance to meet her, you best be ready to sing the theme to 'The Littlest Hobo'. She rocks the school.
- I met Juliana briefly at the Image booth. She's a darling. She got close enough to Tori Amos to figure out Ms. Amos doesn't smell. Always a good thing.
- Squeak and I almost got within ball-kicking distance of Joe Quesada. She is the best, by the way. I hope we hang out again soon.
- I ran into my friend Kat at the Vancouver airport and we had a shameless hug fest.
So now I'm home, and instead of packing up the remnants of my life to pave the way to move to Boston, I'm writing this blog. Can you believe I'm going to be on the other side of the continent by the end of the week? That is some loopy shit.

Okay, like Rin said, no more living in the past. That is what happens when you are unemployed. Too much thinking time. Sometimes, you just have to draw the bow and let the arrow fly, know what I'm saying? No, probably you don't.
I will be at San Diego Comic Con all week arguing with people over which is the greater super-team, the Avengers or the Justice League of America. I will probably do some surfing, do tequila shots with my Marine cousin and visit my ninjitsu teacher. Yes, I am a geek even on vacation.

If time travel was a practical reality but you could only affect your personal history, what event or events would you change?
Me, I'd go back and tell past me to choose Stephanie over Mildred, no matter how awesomely good-looking Mildred and past me looked together. Not to imply Stephanie was ugly or anything; she had this red-head sexy bespectacled librarian look going for her. Stephanie and I had so much more in common and could talk for hours, whereas with Mildred, it was all hormones and sex. If ever there was a 'Sliding Doors' moment in my life, it would have to be the night I ditched Stephanie to be with Mildred.
Oh, and I'd cuff past me behind the ear for not kissing Stephanie the whole time past me dated her.
Say, I don't suppose you have a time machine handy?

Can you guess how excited I am to see this movie?
The brilliance of this reboot of the Batman film franchise is that it has made me care for the cinematic Bruce Wayne as much as I care about the four-colour Bruce Wayne. The scene in 'Batman Begins' where young Bruce breaks down and cries in front of his butler, Alfred, is heart-breaking.
In other news, my last day at my job will be next Friday. I'm definitely going to miss many of the people I work with (there are definitely people I'm eager never to work with again, though) and Vancouver is, as the provincial motto says, the best place on Earth, but I got to get going with my career. Getting in on the ground-floor of a game with great potential was just too juicy an opportunity to pass up. Still, I kind of feel not so much disappointment or ruefulness as wistfulness over missed opportunities here in Vancouver. Plus, even though this is my fourth relocation in four years, I feel trepidation at starting over again in a city where I know no one.
Maybe I'll be back here one day, maybe I won't. We'll see. Anyway, San Diego Comic Con in about a week and half, then back here to pack up. Boston at the end of the month.
Am I excited? You bet.
