Thank god for a cloudy day.

That said, here are a couple of songs that always make me happy.

Back to the grind. September always makes me feels restless, like I should get out of town and embark on a project in some new place. No doubt its a vestige of college days as it also makes me miss Portland. So here's a little Dandy Warhols video as a shout out to all my PDX homies.

Regardless, it's back to the grind here in the Angeles.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone!

I had a pretty good time yesterday. I wanted to do something different on my birthday, do something that stretched my abilities (no doubt to convince myself that my birthday wasn't a grim milestone of inevitable decline). So, I took the train out to Carpinteria in the morning with my bicycle and biked back down to Los Angeles along the coast. I biked just a hair over 100 miles, nearly twice the longest ride I'd done before.

Not too shabby. The coast route is really striking--beautiful surfing beaches, stark and towering cliffs, picturesque bays. Though of course there were some tiresome urban areas--and one very stressful section of PCH going through Maibu with no shoulder and the lovely choice of speeding right next to miles of parked cars praying no one will door you or edging into angry rush-hour traffic. And here's a little message from me to the hills around Peperdine: I hate you, you can eat my fuck you overgrown bastard mounds of dirt. (Yes I now spend time cursing out the landscape. Sad, really.)

After recovering a bit at home I went out for tapas and had some excellent prawns wrapped in bacon and asparagus with shaved manchego and a walnut vinnagrette. Finished it off with one bottle of Mirror Pond Pale Ale at home just before passing the fuck out. On the whole, a great day.

I awaken today a little battered, the owner of a pair of sunburnt knees, but happy. smile

I am thinking over cocktail recipes to serve to my silly friends tonight. Yes, my carefully cultivated concoctions will cause my cohorts to become quickly cargoed. Good times are anticipated.

The Dark & Stormy: Ginger beer, jamaican dark rum and a wedge of lime over ice. Mmmm... dusky, sweet and alcoholic. (Hmmm. This cocktail sounds like the ideal girl I'm always hoping to meet at bars.)

Moscow Mule: A cool Russian variant of the above. Vodka, ginger beer, lime and a dash of bitters. Icy, bracing and somewhat acidic. (This drink is more like the ex-girlfriend who knows all your tricks and takes no shit from you, but is still a kick to hang around.)

Cucumber Mojito: Rum (or vodka), lime, sugar and muddled cucmumber and mint. Sweet, sexy, but refreshing and clean. (What kind of woman is this cocktail? I kinda picture the Cuban version of Mary Lou Retton or something.)

"And now the nightmare's real.
Now Dr. Horrible is here,
to make you quake with fear,
and I won't feel... a thing."

Damn! Joss Whedon suckered me! The story was so light and fun and it totally turned into a classic supervillain origin story. I gotta give it to NPH--he really sells it. Anyhow if you don't know what I'm talking about, go check out Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. So freakin' awesome. I might just change my name to Bad Horse.

Anyway, I'm pretty busy with auditions these days, which is avery good thing. It would be an even better thing if I actually landed any, but I'm getting close. I got put on call for one job that came down to me and one other guy--but, sadly, it went to the other fellow. Ah well.

I'm going to Chicago next week for a friend's wedding. It'll be a good thing. I'll see friends and rest up, return here to re-attack the acting world. (Attach in an achieve way, rather than causing actual destruction. I hope.)

That's all for now. I'm going to go drink a Mirror Pond.

Last day in Portland! I'm about to go do some biking on the Springwater Corridor and later head to watch the Rose Festival fireworks. After that, say by 10:30 I'm heading to Dots (and/or the Clinton St. Pub) for some imbibing. Interested parties should join me there if so inclined. ooo aaa

Currently in Portland for a visit. Having a lovely time despite a stretch of truly dreary weather. Portland is like a terrific and funny girlfriend who unfortunately suffers from severe depression. Long stretches of sigh-filled gloom punctuated by little bouts where she perks perks up and you remember why you love the crazy little chick so much.

Not that I'm drawing on my life experiences for that analogy or anything. Oh no, not me.

On my ongoing adventures in drinking, I recently enjoyed visiting The Green Dragon, a pub in inner SE Portland that actually distills its own booze. There's a huge picture window in the front where you can look in at several shiny stills hard at work. It also manages to make its warehouse esthetic feel comfortable and relaxed. All in all a very cool place to tipple.

Apropos of my last post, here's a St. Paddy's day appropriate Muppet Show clip. Enjoy while drinking some Guinness and Jameson's.
