It's kicking off in Tibet at last...

One of those double-edged sword deals where the lives of those at serious risk is a worry but the attention can only be good for the cause.
Puts the BBC's 'look at lovely, quaint Tibet where everybody's happy' documentary aired on Thursday firmly in the 'state sponsored propaganda' box.

As Tibet groups and supporters intended, the Olympics are not going to go through withoit a hitch, and China's going to have to start answering some pretty serious questions, preferably without bullets.
Time for political leaders to stop sitting on their hands on this one.

"Our People's Government is one that genuinely represents the people's interests, it is a government that serves the people."

Mao Tse-Tung*

although I can't really think of any government that can honestly say this.

* - yeah, I've got 'the little red book'.

China won't be able to carry on as it has. A friend was telling me some of the stuff that goes on in Tibet yesterday. Not good at all.

On a lighter note
Drinks on saturday were cool.

Tibet and China. It's a tough one. I don't see China backing down too easily and I don't think that the politicians in other countries wish to do anything to endanger trading relations with China's growing economy. The whole thing seems like a waiting game in some respects. China needs only to wait for the Dalai Lama to die and then to intervene in the selection of the new one. What chances do you think Tibet has of gaining independence? Do you think Tibet will ever gain independence?
