furburt (my cat) is going fucking insane.

today is the 70th (yeah, that's right) anniversary of my apartment complex. evidently, before there were apartments here, it was actually an amusement park. it sort of makes me wish that some day, i will wander into a scene something similar to "spirited away." right now, there is a band playing live jazz music outside my window. lucky for me, i live slightly above and to the left of the court yard where everyone is basking in this majesty. the cat, however, doesn't know what to do with all of this weird outside noise. he is alternating from being plastered to the window, trying to see what is going on to bouncing off all available walls and furniture.

i left work a little early today because i had an awful headache. the addition of live music to the equation is going wonders.

also, it's really weird to masturbate to live jazz music----makes me feel like a creep. for instance, right now they are playing "the girl from ipanema." what am i supposed to do with that?

hey, remember the time the power went out for days? oh wait, yeah, that was this week.

columbus has once again proved that it has no real system for dealing with natural disasters of any kind. it was pretty well illustrated in march when we had the snow storm and everyone was homebound for three or four days because the streets couldn't be cleared. once again, the city has decided to shine in the sense that the power was out for at least three days up to nearly a week in some places. from sunday afternoon to thursday morning i was out. the bad thing about my place when this happens is that i have no hot water. bonus is that ryan's place has a gas heated hot water tank so i was at least able to take a shower there. i find it sort of funny that the only time i really really want to take a shower is when i know that i can't. generally, i'll happily go three or four days without a bath, but not when i know i can't.
near the end, i was actually enjoying no power. we decided that we were actually just in training for when the economy completely collapses and we are unable to pay our utilities.

mike davis is in town from virigina this week. i have managed to escape totally drinking disaster for every day besides sunday.
i am working on getting a really awful sinus infection. super stoked about that. my winter of constant sickness approaches.

so yeah, my account ran out while i was camping in michigan so i didn't even know about it.....and once i got home, i was too broke from the trip to be able to resubscribe. yay for finally getting paid. my internet addiction won't allow for me to be without SG for too long.

anyway, my vacation was really good. i did quite a bit of hanging out around my parent's hosue and then around columbus before taking off for camping.

camptrans was amazing. i have never been around a friendlier group of people. on top of that, they were all educated and well spoken and totally enthralling (not to mention darling). i met a lot of amazing people and made some pretty cool friends. hopefully, i will be in the same situation that i am right now next year at this time and ryan and i will be able to go back. it was a really good experience for her too. i've never really seen her so happy to be somewhere and to be around so many people. it was pretty outstanding, actually.

vacation, finally.

i have today and tomorrow to just laze around and get things ready before i leave for scenic rural michigan and camping with ryan. she left on sunday so has had plenty of time to hang out and get things set up and make friends. yay for all that. my plan basically involves me drinking in the woods, although it is rumored that there are pretty sweet dance parties on friday and saturday nights. i'm not gonna lie, i'm pretty stoked. although, not really stoked about a six hour drive by myself.

spend the weekend with parents, enjoying quality time and swimming and watching movies and stuff. it was my mom's birthday so we all just sort of hung out and relaxed. it's nice to have a mom with summers off and a dad who is retired. pretty much anytime i want to get out of the city, there's someone there.

i also took a bunch of photos of ryan and my new project. next summer, we're going to go to burning man so we are going to refurbish this camper that my family used to use when i was a little kid. pretty much we went camping three or four times and the rest of my youth i basically used it as a playhouse. it's just been sitting around collecting dust for years now, so we are going to clean it up and take it across country to the desert.

anyway, i have to go do some laundry and figure out how to wash a sleeping bag without the use of dry cleaning. yay.

insurance hasn't resolved anything yet. now, a week later, one of the adjustors called me to say that he needs to take a picture of the damage to my car. it's been an effing week. what the hell have these guys been up to? in any case, now i have to drive totally out of my way tomorrow to go and get pictures taken but at this point i'm just trying to be agreeable as possible. another fun thing is that they seem to have my parents phone number as my primary contact number, despite the fact taht i've told them two or three times that it is not. it makes me skeptical of wether or not they can be trusted to make a decision on the claim if they can't even get my phone number correct.

my vacation is the week after next. i need to decide soon what i am going to do. i want to go camping with ryan but i'm not sure how long i could completely handle being in the woods with a bunch of anarcho-feminist genderqueers. good stuff, right?

just when i thought things were looking up...

as i was arriving at my glorious part time hot topic job, i was turning left into one of the parking isles when all of a sudden, i made contact with something....i car, to be more specific. when i went to turn, there was no one in my mirrors and no one in my blind spot (i checked). this guy, let's call him douche, says that i was in the right lane and turned in front of him. i maintain that i am not a retard and would not have turned left from a right hand lane, but whatever. my drivers side rear hub cap is scraped a little. his passenger side light was busted out. the yaris was the big winner in that scenario. however, the damage does in fact make it look like i hit him. i maintain that we were both turning left into the same isle at about the same time. since it was a parking lot, the police didn't site anyone. i went to go to work. douche filed a claim with insurance. so, i am probably going to have to pay for him to get a new light. yee-fucking-haw. since i didn't see him, i don't know where he came from, so i don't really have any argument to make.

i was so excited to get my stimulus check and now i am probably going to have to funnel most of it to paying for this fuck head to get a new front light. i am not less excited.

i am curious though, if there is no one sited, how does insurance determine fault? i know my statement didn't sound concrete but what ever. i am really more ambivalent to the situation. i guess it's good that my car didn't get messed up and it's good that i currently have the money to pay for just such a problem.

still though, isn't that the way of things.....

yesterday, ryan, chris and i went to cleveland for a bike race. chris and i didn't race but just rode around for a while. ryan didn't finish the race cause she has a kidney infection. however she did call off work today and bike to yellowsprings with chris and his girlfriend.....i guess at least i am responsible.

i get to work for the next eight consecutive days. lucky me.

last night i rode the slowest twelve miles i've ever ridden on a bike. columbus has started doing sunday night girls rides, which i think is an amazing idea. about twenty lovely ladies went out last night and did a circuit from buckeye donuts to german village. however, for some reason, it was a painfully slow ride. since i started cycling semi-regularly, i had thought that my skill level was pretty low. after last night, i discovered that i am actually doing alright. my issue previously had been that all my riding was done with boys, boys who are serious about bikes. by the end of the ride, i had pulled way ahead of everyone else that was there. i felt sort of assey about it. on monday night rides, there is this kid that always tries to lead. he's a total ass face and goes too fast. he had a bad attitude too. afterwards, i totally felt like that kid. i also learned that it's not really okay to say "cunt" on an all ladies ride, especially when they are all liberated bike ridin' ladies. evidently, i am just crass.
that being said, i would love love love to be going on the monday night ride here in about a half hour. i would be pulled by stronger riders and forced to do my best....buuuuuut, i have a pretty gnarly sunburn right now and a really bad tummy ache. effing lame.
i think this week, at least the two days i won't have to run outside errands, i am going to bike to work with one of the other girls there. i'll have that, at least. and if i can get off work early on friday, we're going to to go cleveland and race. wOOt!

ryan and i went to my parents to swim today, hence the sunburn. it was pretty good. they'd never met her before, but it seemed to go over pretty well. they even took us out to dinner. way to go parents!
