Fuck bands. I have a Game Boy.

Last night was fun - dinner at King of Kings with friends, drinks and arcade games at Alibi, then drinks, Guitar Hero, and headbanging to Kreator at Step Inn, followed by pizza, falling out of my bed and vomiting at my house. I hadn't drank myself silly like that in a long, long time, and I forgot how much goddamn fun it is. Just starting to feel better now, and will probs do much the same thing tonight.

Living in the Valley rules me. As does owning a camera.

I spent under $60 last weekend. I haven't bought a piece of vinyl for about a month now. I have a nice amount of cash to my name at the moment, something I haven't had for a long time. It feels good.

Friday night I went out to hang with friends and drink a bit, and walked into one of the first local metal gigs I've gotten a kick out of in a long time. If you're into that sorta thing, you'd be well-advised to keep your ears open for both The Decimation Protocol and Adelaide's Truth Corroded. Really, really good shit that's left me with a severe case of bangover* that still refuses to go away.

Saturday night was a different story - went to a club to meet up with the lovely ponderch3rry and celebrate the birthday of Ms. Kye. The night was pretty uneventful for me, minus some fun conversation and watching a girl get whipped in the corner (that was super hot, by the way), and in the end Ms. Ch3rry and I ended up hanging around the Valley waiting for trains to start again. Many, many lulz were had.

Sunday was spent cleaning. Vacuuming, scrubbing, washing and drying. Gunnery Sargent Hartman himself would approve of the state this place is in at the moment.

Also, I'm still reeling from the fact that I've seen Off Minor and Ampere play two shows each in this city. It's amazing that bands who tour their home countries in vans and sell 7"s and t-shirts so they can eat and pay for fuel are able to fly here and play now, all thanks to the amazing support of many people all over the country and the tight-knit groups that not only genuinely enjoy going to shows, but see the importance of their involvement and support so that these great things can keep happening. Look at what we've built. It's really something to be proud of.

*Bangover: The soreness to one's neck and head that occurs after a lot of headbanging. It's not very metal.

I just bought a digital camera!

First photo:

_Indigo_'s rad cat. And actually it's the fourth pic I took - in the first one he had camera-flash demon eyes and he looked away/bolted off for two and three. Notice his pre-pounce position, indicating that he wants to rip my face off for trying to steal his soul with my infernal new device.

Looking forward to bringing this out tonight and finally having record of my drunken evenings, plus pics for eBay auctions, plus gig photos, plus showing off my records, plus... *HEAD ASPLODES*

Very, very happy right now.

There's something about going out and drinking with my best friend that makes me say aloud a lot of things I find hard to admit to myself. Hearing these things and discussing them back and forth is more than friendly conversation with someone I know I can trust, it's also constructive and damn therapeutic.

I'm a much better person than I was two years ago.

I'm tired of dodging bullets. I wanna step on a fucking land mine.
Come on, try to break me.

What a week.

Tuesday: Sick Of It All/Dropkick Murphys at the Tivoli... SOIA were amazing (no surprise there) and the Dropkicks almost put me to sleep. Really disappointing, considering Do Or Die was one of my favourite records back in my punk days.
Thursday: Ampere, The Russian Club, Wooloongabba... The Fourth Is To Burn Warehouses (ex-members of Orlacs Hände) are amazing, but I must admit I feel pangs of jealousy seeing my band's old drummer kicking ass in his new band; one day I'll stop being such a jealous baby. Insurgents and Majorca were sweet, and Ampere destroyed. But nothing could prepare me for their next show.
Friday: Ampere gig #2, Lofly Hangar, Red Hill... First off, what an amazing space. Quiet Steps were great, To The North just keep getting better, Majorca were amazing, and then Ampere played one of the best sets I've ever seen. Totally lost my shit during 'Woodlawn'.
Saturday: No Culture Festival, Ahimsa House, West End... Took mercy on my body and slept in, got there at 3 and stayed for over 12 hours, which I'm sure negated any benefits I would've gotten from that extra sleep anyway. Highlights included Rialto Decibel Choir, Arrows, Baseball, Pikelet, True Radical Miracle, Turnpike and Charge Group. Someone stole my beer and I had an awesome dinner at an Indonesian restaurant.

Now, keep in mind that I did all of this while battling with a chest infection which finally started clearing up yesterday. It's good to finally sleep without waking up in coughing fits and dry-heaving. I probably woke up Indigo in the next room at least once, and if so I apologise.

Currently I'm visiting my folks on the Sunshine Coast, not doing much of anything and enjoying the absolute hell out of it. I'll be back home sometime on Tuesday.

Drunk-rant!

Assumption is poison. Assumption is cancer.

I can't fucking believe how seriously some people take things. It makes me belly-laugh thinking of all the things that certain people allow to get a stick up their asses about. It reminds me of high school, only now that these people aren't forced to see each other every day they instead group themselves together out of what - habit? Desperate clinging to familiarity? Whatever it is, it's funny as all hell.

I don't do drama. Instead, I let people create whatever stupid scenarios they can based on assumption and half-truths, and stand back and marvel at the kind of stuff they're capable of creating in their own minds. It's the human equivalent of a bunch of ants scurrying in a glass case, and truth be told much more entertaining.

I'm sorry, but I don't see why or how I should give a shit. Sorry to let you down.

If there was a cross-country ROFLing race, I'd be leading the goddamn pack right about now.

From an early age I've had what I'd consider to be a finely-tuned bullshit detector. You know, it's the kind of thing that goes off in your head like the most grating alarm clock when you see or hear something that flies in the face of all things decent and/or based in reality. But now I find myself wanting more. In the last week I've detected so much bullshit from so many different directions that I can't help but think I've simply overlooked this kind of stuff in the past. Maybe I'm getting more critical of the world around me, something that I personally welcome.

The great thing about this is that a short while ago moments such as these would be the ones I'd take personally. But now I know it's nothing to punish myself over.

I am very, very keen to talk to venues and get this weekly/monthly/whatever chiptune night underway. I've recently found a treasure trove of music I hadn't heard before that would give me a big enough collection to get this underway. For the people unfamiliar with this music, I'll direct you to these web pages - electronic music of all types composed with hacked game console sound chips, or emulators of such. In other words, it fucking rules, and I'm pretty sure if I promoted the hell out of it people would come out for it.

Blueline Medic tomorrow, Dillinger Escape Plan soon after, and Ampere at the end of the month. So psyched.

I am the horizon. I have dreamed of tracing rings around this world.
Anyone wanna translate that into Latin for me? Pretty please?

My new computer is up and running and I couldn't be happier.

I often find myself admiring the creations of man more than the natural settings that they threaten to destroy. As impressive and important as the natural world is, our creations and advancements in the many fields we've come to recognise, understand (or work towards doing so) and harness as building blocks for our existence are what I truly find impressive, and in my opinion display the species of man at its very best. As with everything, we are not perfect, and as we all are I'm reminded of this on a very regular basis. But at the end of it all I can walk through a city and admire what we've accomplished and my hope and faith in us is sustained and all the minor issues that we allow ourselves to obsess over are rightfully dwarfed by it all.

March on.

I just prepped myself for my hectic day of by having the most awesome breakfast ever - eggs, toast, sausages, strawberry yogurt and a cup of tea. I am so full of yum I fear I may just explode, but I'll do my best to keep from doing so.

I got a new computer yesterday! Tomorrow I'll actually have time to set it up and install the OS, and I'm really looking forward to gutting the good stuff out of this piece of shit and tossing the rest, or offloading it on someone dumb enough to want it. wink

Alright, I need to get ready. Bai!
