I hate this SCA crap. I, unfortunately spent the good portion of what would have been a wonderful Sat. afternoon (Cubbies beat D-backs) with a bunch of SCA buffoons, who were trying to convince me that the so called medieval/dark ages were an incredible time in history. NOT. I, as many history experts agree, the period that the SCA glorifies is one of the saddest moments in human development. Sandwich between the glory of Rome (cruel as it was) AND the Renaissance (the Enlightenment), lay a period of ignorant nee jerk reaction celebrated by the SCA.
SCA = Society for Creative Anachronism OR people celebrating the ignorance of humanity.

WHAT A WAY TO FUCK UP A WEEKEND. I HATE THIS SCA SHIT.

Now to dwell on the positive, smile smile smile smile smile smile smile smile smile I'm an uncle again (her name is Aerin… may she reign long and true), Cubbies swept Arizona (best team in the National league), Mom was happy for Mom's Day (when Mamma's happy… every bodies happy), wife was happy (when wife's happy… I'm happy), I quit my job for the summer and yes, she agrees (it's called good financial planning… we're riding out the "recession" which is getting worse), lastly we've decided to slow down our busy lives to a nice calm level. I always told my family I was working my ass off for rain day… an economic storms a coming. We have money in the bank and at home, we have meat in the fridge, and we have vegetables in our garden. We're ready for the bad times, if they come. If not, we are in excellent shape. God, nature and fate favor the prepared.

OH SUCH DRAMA, from Clinton and Obama!

Chicago Tribune headline this morning,
HIGH DRAMA, BUT NO KO
Obama romps in N.C.; Clinton squeaks by in Indiana
zoom image

Tim Russert For MSNBC stated last night, "We now know who the Democratic nominee is going to be, and no one is going to dispute it."

What a great night. smile
Obama essentially becomes the "presumptive" Democratic nominee. smile
Chicago Cubs beat Cincinnati Reds 3-0. smile
White Sox blew a no-hitter (always happy when the Sox screw up).biggrin

QUESTION: Should/could the candidates set aside any bad blood and resurrect the dream ticket idea with Obama as Pres. And Clinton as V.P.?
The notion was kicked around by some commentators last night.

Hope everyone's doing well. It's cold and rainy here in Chicago and since I've got the day off I'm getting an early start to the weekend. No major plans... sleep in, take my dog to the dog park so he can play with his pals in the mud, and maybe at some point get out to a few of the Blues clubs... it's been awhile since I've listened to some live blues. I finally cracked the seal on this expensive bottle of Kentucy whiskey my brother gave me, figured I'd pour a generous glass and play some old vinyl. Got to admit, a rainy day and Chicago blues go perfect with burbon. I know it's not everyone cup of tea but here's an idea of what I'm listening to.

WHOA, 5.2 EARTHQUAKE HITS THE MIDWEST AROUND 4:30am… and I slept right through it. Oh well. shocked

AT LAST. After nearly three weeks of fever, coughing, wheezing, sneezing, aches, pains, watery eyes, clogged ears, and lets not forget a runny nose, I finally feel better. My doctor said some nasty bug with a long duration has been going around this winter and I had the misfortune of catching it. Other then taking stuff for the symptoms, all you can do is ride it out. I've probably made the makers of Tylenol, Robitussin and Puffs tissue a small fortune. whatever

Anywho, it's over and I'm happy to be firing on all eight cylinders again. Just in time too, the sun and warm temps are invading the city this weekend, which means I can finally escape the confines of my house. I swear the walls were beginning to close in… I hate winter. Hope I can scrape up some tickets to the ballgame. I'm gonna try to spend whole weekend out side. biggrin zoom image

May we all one day be judged be simply the content of our heart.

MLK quote that has kept me going (especially as someone with a physical disability).
"If you can't fly... run. If you can't run... walk. If you can't walk... crawl. BUT by all means, don't stop moving."

BROTHER MARTIN - I'VE KEPT MOVING ONWARD... AND UPWARD. smile HOPE AND PEACE.

Today marks the 5th anniversary of our countries occupation of Iraq. This country, which I love, has made some horrible mistakes in its past. Though somewhere towards the top of the list has got to be the election of George W. Bush and allowing him and his cronies to drag us into this war in Iraq. To date thousands have died and billions spent, yet no one in that administration has ever clearly explained why we're there. This morning ABC news aired an interview with V.P. Dick Cheney. The reporter commented to the Vice President "two-thirds of Americans say the fight in Iraq is not worth it," to which Cheney quickly retorted "So." It's that attitude that Bush Republicans have, not only towards its own citizens, but also towards the world as a whole. Republican Presidential nominee John McCain promises more of the same if he's elected. Not totally sure but it seems Bush has manage to kill more Iraqis, in a shorter period, then Saddam. Will history eventually judge these guys as war criminals? I hope so.

A MEDIA OUTLET HERE IN CHICAGO REPORTED THE FOLLOWING:

"Most Americans favor withdrawing the troops. Sixty-four percent say do it now or within a year. Nearly as many military families agree."

Current deployment, now estimated at up to 160,000 as many as 8,000 from my state of Illinois.

The human toll:
· nearly 3,988 killed, including 143 from Illinois.
· wounded: 29,393 U.S. soldiers, 1077 from Illinois
· estimates of dead Iraqis range to 223,000.
· an estimated one million Iraqis wounded

The war cost: so far this fiscal year is $608 billion. The total war tab is $2.8 trillion.

QUITE A FUCKING WASTE... DON'T YOU THINK? mad
