I believe July 4th 1776, was actually America's Conception Day. Her pregnancy was 12 long years, Her Birthday was, in reality, June 21st 1786, Ratification Day.

But her labor was long and painful... maybe they just decided to remember the good times that lead up to pregnancy and birth in order to get past the pain of childbirth?
