Well, here he is! We don't really have a solid name for him yet, but Nibbler seems to fit, since he constantly bites the living crap outta usfrown Other than that, we just call him Hedgy...

I kinda feel bad, bc she cant really play with himwhatever He's super grumpy, and doesn't seem to want anything to do with us. We take him outta his cage 3-4 times a day, but that doesn't seem to help. He bites ALL the time, even though in all our research, it said that it's very rare for hedgehogs to biteblackeyed So I don't know what to do really..he's between 3-6 months old, and we got him from a local breeder, but...idk. He's just super hateful, and I'm scared to hold him without 4 layers of clothing on, covering my hands..Josh is able to handle him with his bare hands, but he also has been bitten a lot more than me. All I wanna do is be able to do this and have a loving hedgyfrown

So I'm not the happiest at the moment with him...it really bothers me that he hasn't warmed up to us, even a little bit. I mean, how the heck are we supposed to clip his poor little nails, if he wont even let us touch him without spiking up?? Because none of the pet stores around here sell them or anything...*sigh* idkwhatever Any advice would be lovely...
But here's my newest tattoo!!!

I get her finished on the 18th of January, so in the mean time, we're trying to find her a guy to match her on my other leg! I love herbiggrin
Well, guess it's bedtime...work till Christmaswhatever Hope all of you lovelies are doing well!kiss

Hes so cute! Keep having your bf handle him, since he seems to be pretty comfortable with him seeing the video of him putting his face right up to him. Maybe he can sense your nervous? No idea if thats true, but dogs and cats can so maybe critters are the same way. I have had alot of rats, some were rather nasty at first because they were not used to being held. So just keep on holding him (or your honey) as much as possible. Eventually he should figure out that your not going to eat him. smile

You have to give him time, my ex had a hedgehog, took probably 2 months to really get comfortable to where I could just pick her up with out her puffing up. As far as the biting, does he lick you first then bite? Or is it more of a defensive "get the fuck away" bite? If he is licking then biting watch what is on your hands, if they taste ANYTHING (hand lotions, food from earlier in the day... anything foreign) they will take a nibble. Also watch what smells you have, they are practically blind animals so scent and taste are important. I use to walk into the room and she would puff up, then she got use to me and it was no problem. Feel free too message me!

Tattoo looks awesome by the way

Yeah, from what we've researched DeDe, they can sense your nervousness, but hell, I cant help if I'm scared to death of him biting me! lol. And that guy in the video isn't my bf, it's just some guy we found on youtube, and we're super jealous of his ability to handle his hedgy without terror or spiking...and MDIF, I cant really tell at times if he licks at first...it's just like, we're holding him, and then BAM, he bites..pretty sure it's a "leave me the fuck alone and put me back in my cage" kinda bite. I did read that if they are licking at first, they are probably gonna bite, just because they think you taste good. I know that we're gonna try putting one of our tshirts in his cage tonight, since that's where they feel safest, so he'll get use to our smell being "safe". So...idkwhatever

Giving him a tshirt is a good idea, also I noticed the dog going up to the cage in that picture, try putting the hedgehog either up away from the dog or even better in a room where the dog can't go for a week or so. Let the hedgehog get use to things, then slowly introduce the dog. One thing I use to do was wear a sweatshirt, take out the hedgehog and hold it while walking around. At first she would be antsy but as I walked around she would settle down and look around, thus calming her down and keeping her occupied while keeping her close to me so she felt safe and could get the smell. Don't be afraid to get some work gloves, we used them at first to handle her until we got use to it and vise versa. You have to just "go for it" if you want to pick her up, scoop and hold, don't let her "puffing" scare you off. Again the gloves help.

Try not to put her in the "hampster ball" this can cause them to freak out, instead get a playpen (amazon has some really nice ones for cheap), put a wheel in there and let him run around in that to get play time out of the cage.

Aw, he's such a cute little guy.

Give him some time and just be cool with him, and I'm sure he'll mellow out. Moving is stressful, after all
