So what I though would be a damn cool job has turned into yet another disappointing learning experience, what on earth am I supposed to do with a sculpture major that will let me live slightly beyond paycheck to paycheck? Bah! I guess if the only thing wrong in my life life right now is my job than I really don't have it too bad, I do have an amazing girlfriend, a great puppy, wonderful friends and a few pairs of decent matching socks, I just need to get the job situation figured out and I'll be fine.
Then we'll move to Ireland, work on sculpture/motorcycles and raise sheep.
See! I've got a life plan!

So wait, what's wrong with your job now?

After 5 months the owner finally got around to giving me my 3 month review, I've been on probationary pay up until now with it implied that after my review it would go up to proper employee pay (which for what the job requires shouldn't be anything less than a minimum of 16/hr) but even though it went fine at the end of the review the owner, almost as an afterthought, says that he's going to bump me up a whole .35 cents, "to keep me motivated". This job has no medical, no paid time off, no benefits of any kind, and now he's trying to pay me entry level fabricator pay, fuck that.

your work is wonderful and artists finding work is almost a joke entirely. I sacrificed my art for the working world and am just starting to rekindle my rusted skills... I know so many great artists that struggle. I enjoy your last thought on the post, I was actually wanting to do something of the same thing, but a tavern with a few rooms and a massive art studio in the back.

If it makes you feel better, I don't know what anyone with any degree is supposed to do that will let one live slightly beyond paycheck to paycheck.

That probably doesn't make you feel better. It should, though, with that whole "misery and company, and someone loving something about that arrangement" thing they always say, right?
