I'm heading out to Beirut, Lebanon for six months. (Yay, car bombs.)

Syria, Iran, Egypt, and Jordan are also on my itinerary since I'll be in the neighborhood. Y'all keep an eye on things for me while I'm away.

If anyone is interested in six months worth of political reporting, travel writing, and "muddy boots" analysis, this is the place.

Two days ago I posted an item to the news wire about an anti-Syrian journalist, Samir Kassir, who was murdered by car bomb in Beirut. It didn't click for me at first. I knew this man personally, and I didn't realize it was actually him until I saw his photo in the New York Times.

Okay, I finally put up a picture of myself. That's me in the lobby of the Al-Kabir Hotel in Tripoli, Libya. Everyone's pal Brother Leader Moammar Ghaddafi is on the wall over my shoulder.

It's been almost a year since I've added anything on this page. That's ridiculous and it needs to stop. Here's a filler post for now!
