I'm so excited for March! Heckler hopes to book his flight here for the third anniversary of his first visit here. The day we met blush I'm so effing excited.

So I kind of started school yesterday. Well, I went to the college, at least. I took my typing assessment. I was there for just over an hour, and I achieved a score of 65 words per minute with just one error biggrin I am pretty proud of that - it's the best result I've ever had. I guess the hours and hours and hours of typing with Heckler online everyday has paid off tongue

Regular school will start for me on Monday, and I am pretty nervous/excited... nercited? It's been a LONG time since I've been in a classroom. Since my classes are pretty short, they will be intensive - usually 9am-4pm for a few days. I still have things to do before Monday too - pick up my books at the bookstore, as well as calling to confirm a class. I know it doesn't sound like much at all, but I'm kind of anxious about it. I really hate calling people tongue

On Monday afternoon I will go meet with my orthopedic surgeon (the one for my hips, not my shoulder). I had an MRI and bone scan last year, along with x-rays, then on Monday before my appointment I will have more x-rays. We will decide what course of action we are going to take with my hip. I have two options, apart from putting off surgery. They are:

Osteotomy

and

Total Hip Replacement

Personally, I'm rooting for the Total Hip Replacement, as the recovery time is FAR shorter (I am up and walking within days, whereas with the Osteotomy, I would be on crutches/in a wheelchair for 10-12 weeks). I can foresee problems with being on crutches as well, considering I need shoulder surgery soonish for my chronically dislocating shoulders tongue

Soooo, I will likely be having surgery within the next year, possibly as soon as the summer. Heckler will for sure be living here by then, so that will be nice. My ex husband, trocar, is moving back to the Island in the summertime as well, so that will be a wonderful support (he was here for the holidays, staying in the house with us, and it was really great for the kids). So yeah, being surrounded by family and my friends who are willing to help will be a real blessing.

In preparation for surgery, I am redoubling my efforts to lose weight. I have more than a few extra pounds I'm dragging around with me, and I would very much like to get rid of them. My doctors also say that the less I weigh, the less pressure will be on my joints. I have started using a calorie counter on this site, which is helping me be accountable for what I eat (I am notorious for snacking blush ). So far, I think I'm doing quite well, getting within the 10% or less of my calorie intake goal each day. I used to be quite heavy, and I lost 40+ pounds working out then... but back then the osteoarthritis was not nearly as bad. I have serious issues when it comes to my limitations with exercise - walking hurts, I can't swim in public pools due to an allergy to the chemicals used (yes, even in the pools treated with ozone - I break out in a massive body rash frown ). I do have a simple no-resistance elliptical machine, and I am going to get that out of the garage this weekend and set it up. I got a weighted hula hoop from Heckler for Christmas, and I am using that. I can also do some of the exercises on Wii Fit too. Wish me luck!

I have a couple secksy pictures to post, but I'm not alone in them... I don't know if I should post them in my blog or in the Exhibitionists group or what blush Here's a not-too-explicit sample...

I had to work for New Years, so we don't have any photos from that night. The fella I care for had lots of plans - we were at a pub, a casino, and then at a friend's house. Heckler was able to come with me, which was fantastic. We didn't get into bed til 5am shocked We are officially old, we slept for most of the next day tongue

Just after the ferry ride was the short trip to the airport. We said our goodbyes (tearfully!) and I went right back to the ferry terminal. It was a long trip home by myself frown Not as long as Heckler's, mind... he didn't get home til the next morning eeek

On Tuesday, we got some news regarding his immigration process - though we still don't know what the decision was! The update on our online file said that Immigration Canada would contact Heckler via snail mail. We're both really anxious, but I did some research online, and I *think* the verdict will be positive. He's done everything he was supposed to (medical exams, police record checks, allllll that paperwork), and we checked and rechecked that our package was complete. I can't see them denying him permanent residence without so much as an interview. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!

Tonight is my first weekend back at work, and I totally don't wanna go! I have good news on the job front though!!! I visited the local job search centre for some help with finding something I can do (I walk with a cane, and I think a lot of employers turn me down because of it). As it turns out, I qualified for some technical training, through a program with the Ministry of Education. I went to a meeting yesterday at the college and I was accepted into some office training courses, along with bookkeeping and file management. Eeeeek! So excited. I go for the first time on January 19th biggrin

Hmmm, the last time I updated was the night of my accident... what's new, what's new? Oh yeah, my OTHER accident blackeyed

Spoilered for length

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Since my tail light was smashed by the small bus that I collided with on Monday, I had no way to get to work at night on Friday. My mom was kind enough to lend me her cute little Honda CR-V (she calls her "Curvy" tongue ). The snow was almost all gone by that point, and the roads were simply wet and clear. Or so I thought. I was going about 10km over the speed limit, so, 90km/hour (so approximately 56mph)and I hit a patch of black ice eeek

The car fishtailed and all of a sudden I had spun 180'... then I slammed into the pile of snow on the side of the road, got bounced back onto the black ice, spun again and landed back-end-down down a snowy embankment and through someone's fence shocked Holy scary, Batman!

Trembling, I climbed out of the car and surveyed the damage. The car looked just fine, but I could not say the same for the fence frown I walked up the steps to the house of the fence I just destroyed and knocked. It was just after nine o'clock at night, but I had gotten these poor people out of bed. They were very understanding, and they let me stay in their house until a tow truck could get there. Initially, I thought I might be able to back up through the yard, to the driveway, and then back out onto the road; apparently, had Curvy gone just a few feet back, I would have ended up in a sewage tank eeek I decided to wait for the tow.

I called in to work right away, because my shift was due to start in about forty minutes from then. Fortunately, someone was able to cover for me. I texted Pagz & Heckler, and then called my mom.

I smashed the fence of probably the kindest people on the planet, seriously. They were really understanding, having had their fence taken out several times by people hitting the black ice in front of their house. The husband explained that there is a creek that runs underneath the road through a culvert, which is what causes the black ice. He said they had seen twelve cars in one night spin out in front of their place. Once, they even had a lady upside-down in her truck in their yard shocked Even a cop car had spun out once and landed on their property.

I noticed that they had a jukebox, and I thought that would be a good conversation starter. I asked them about what style of music they liked, and wow, it turned into an awesome evening from there (apart from the whole crash, of course, lol). They were into fifties rock 'n roll, which I also love, so we had tons to talk about. They introduced me to an artist I hadn't even heard of before - Shakin' Stevens. Not only did they play records, but we also watched a dvd of Shakin' Stevens doing his thing. Wow. It was really cool. They also had cats, so we shared stories of our quirky kittehs miao!! One of their cats had a peg leg, and he was very cuddly.

When it came time to go, I received big hugs from both of them blush I'm going to take them a Christmas card and a bottle of wine in the next week or so. They were truly amazing.

The tow truck finally arrived after 2.5 hours of waiting. Like I mentioned before, the car looked just fine... but when he got it up the snowbank, I could see that the wheel was bent. It was the axle... there was no way I could drive it home. I considered texting Pagz back and asking for a ride, but I was worried about his car on the ice. The most amazing thing happened then: the neighbour of the people whose fence I smashed had come out to watch the commotion as the tow truck pulled the car up the hill. We chatted for a bit, and he offered to take me home. Now, I was at approximately the half-way point between my house and the city - it was at least a 20-25 minute drive from the accident site to my house. I had thought the tow truck driver might take me back home (my mom has the good kind of insurance that pays for that kind of stuff), but he already said he was worried about that axle and getting it back to a shop in town. I was blown away by the kindness I received that night. I happily accepted his offer. While he drove (rather slowly, in case there was more black ice), he told me a story...

When he was a young fellow of 18, he had been working in a mill in BC's interior. When the mill burned down, he was left without a job, and decided to follow a tip that there might be work in another town. He had enough money for a meal and one night in a hotel - he hoped to be staying at the work camp after that first night. Well, as it turns out, there was no work frown After the meal from the previous night, and his hotel stay, all he had left was money for one beer. He said that in those days, if you had money enough for a beer, they'd give you one (even if you weren't the legal age). The bar was crowded, and as he sat down with his beer, a man from New Zealand joined him at his table. They got to talking, and he explained his predicament to the fellow at his table - he was stuck in a strange town with no money, and no work. The man asked what he would do if he had money enough to go somewhere else. He explained to the stranger that he would take a bus to Prince George (a city in BC) where he had cousins he was sure he could work with. The man told him that he would pay for that bus ticket, so long as he repaid the favour to someone else one day. Then he turned to me and said, "I was 18 back then, and I'm 62 now... and I've been paying off that debt ever since. You're just one more installment."

Sweet, huh? I aim to repay that favour to someone someday too. Amazing kindness, amazing people...

Since that second incident:

* I missed work two days last weekend (and I *only* work weekends)

* my mom and I set up Christmas lights

* I wrapped almost all of the gifts I've bought so far, all while watching Christmas specials and movies (A Muppet Christmas Carol, The Grinch, Frosty, Rudolph, Charlie Brown, etc.)

* a friend came to spend the day with me and all we did was watch movies alllll day biggrin We watched "God Told Me to Kill," "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra" and "The Lost Skeleton Returns Again," as well as a bunch of MST3K.

* my asthma was kind of acting up... I was sounding like a creaky floorboard whenever I was laying down. I decided to get it checked, just in case - this time last year, I had pneumonia. I'm on antibiotics now, though no inhalers. Upper respiratory infection, I'm guessing (the doctor didn't say much)

* my mom bought me a Charlie Brown Christmas tree

I love SNOW! (well, normally...)

It's been snowing steady all day here today, we woke up to maybe an inch, and more is falling. With Ranger next to me in the front seat, I drove my lil guy to school, instead of waiting around outside for the bus, we made it there just fine. I stopped at the hardware store for some hula hoop supplies (I'm going to make my own). The grocery store was my next stop - my daughter has a cold, and she wanted cough drops. I also needed some essentials, like milk. Ranger's vet appointment was next, which is just past the downtown core of our little town. I was going pretty slow as it was, and I still slid into the parking lot at the vet's eeek

I'm happy to report that Ranger's tumor was NOT cancer biggrin The surgery site is looking okay, though not amazing... Ranger managed to get his cone off on Friday night and he chewed at it. Ew. We have some cream to put on it twice a day now, and he'll have to wear the cone for a while longer.

Getting back up the hill from the vet's office was no easy feat, but we made it. I saw people getting stuck and fishtailing here and there. I did need to go to the bank as well, but I figured that could wait - at that point, I really just wanted to get home.

When I turned off the main road onto the road that would take me home, I felt the difference in how much snow was under my tires. I geared down and went really slow. I went past the rec centre, and saw two cars stuck at the top of the hill. There was a HandyDart (small bus, often used to transport the elderly and people in wheelchairs - in our neighbourhood, anyone can take the handydart, because there aren't city buses going through our area), also on the hill, several lengths behind the two stuck cars. I felt bad that their lane was blocked, but I decided to keep going. If I stopped, I'd be blocking traffic in my lane, and who knows if I would be any help. I slowly went down the hill, and the HandyDart started to come up shocked I got scared, and braked a bit... my back end started to slide out to the left, and I started to drift sideways. The handydart was sliding into my lane at the same time. We hit - the bus's front right and my back left.

The bus had me pinned against the curb, and the driver refused to move the bus at all (the bus was fine, by the way, not even a scratch). Someone who worked for a fire department happened to be stuck waiting for us to move, so she got out and directed traffic - letting some cars go up, then some cars down. Many of them slipped and slid about & needed a push. The driver and I traded info and eventually, she moved forward a bit. Two men helped push my car off the curb and I was on my way. I got about a third of the way up the next hill, but got stuck in the snow. Two pedestrians and the driver of the van behind me (who was also stuck) helped push me up the hill, and I parked near the lake trails (where the hikers park). I got what groceries I could carry out of the car, and my dog, and set out on foot. I walk with a cane too, for those of you who don't know.

Two blocks up the road, I was nearly in tears... Ranger was pulling so hard (excited to be out in the snow) and I was moving as slow as I could because of the pain... it was brutal. I flagged down a truck and asked the driver for a ride up the hill. He obliged, which was AMAZING! I was so thankful!!! As it turns out, the fella worked in the neighbourhood, and actually helped build my house. Cool beans.

My day didn't end there, but I won't go into great detail about that.... let me just say that it involved two more kilometers of trudging through the snow. My arthritis is flaring up and I am generally ouchie.

Enjoy some Harry Potter pics biggrin
