I may be speaking out of my ass but if you ask me, film is a medium the way painters have water colors or oil paints. Digital is just the stem cells of mediums.

a digital camera has so many options on it that I could take a photo and it could look like an oil painting let alone any number of film stocks. Stem cells can be anything and digital is that.
