I think people tend to update less when things are going well in their lives. It's not that interesting to write about how fabulous your life is, and how wonderful your family is, and how you love your job. If someone's going through a tough spot, they'll update regularly to bitch about it. I know it makes me feel better, just letting it out. Personally, I'd love to see more positive in the world.

I make really good baked macaroni and cheese. It's really easy to make from scratch, too:

Preheat oven to 400F.

Sauce
1. In a small saucepan, melt three tablespoons of butter on medium heat.
2. Stir in three tablespoons of flour, and make sure there are no lumps.
3. Slowly blend in a cup of milk, stirring constantly.
4. Add a whole bunch of grated cheese (to taste).
5. Add salt, pepper, garlic, basil and oregano (to taste).
6. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens (it's usually ready at about the same time as the pasta, if you start them both together).

Pasta
1. Boil water.
2. Add pasta.
3. Drain water when the pasta's cooked. biggrin

Combine the pasta and sauce in a large casserole dish. Mix thoroughly so that all of the pasta is coated with your delicious, delicious sauce. Add lots more shredded cheese on top. Bake in an uncovered casserole dish for about twenty minutes, or until the cheese is melted and browned. Cool before serving!

The sauce is a basic white sauce, but with cheese and spices added. You can use the flour/butter/milk part to make Alfredo sauce, for example. I imagine you can also spice it very differently, but I like it the way I like it, ya know? wink

So, guess what we just had for dinner?

I'm in Ottawa for the loooooong weekend. Happy Canada day, you shmucks!

Yesterday it we went to a BBQ with my husband's family. Today, it was my father's 60th birthday party. I'm all social-ed out, but I've still got two more days of people to see. I did want a vacation!

So Mugabe "won" the election, after all that. Colour me not shocked, but dissapointed. I was really hoping ...

My mother was visiting for a few days, so my husband and I actually (gasp) went out on a date last night! wink We saw In Bruges at this movie theatre that I swear hasn't been updated for at least forty years, probably longer. It was great! The movie is fantastic, even with the bit at the end that reminds me of the Rigor Mortis group image. (GROSS.)

The weather has turned absolutely beautiful. I overdid it the other day, though. At lunch I took a walk in the cemetery near my office, and got sunburnt! Oops. Cemeteries are the most relaxing places in the world. I know I want to be cremated, but I want some kind of marker for my descendants to visit. How do you pick an epitaph, anyway? I worry that it would end up like my high school yearbook ... highly embarrassing!

On Wednesday night I leave for Chicago. I'm getting a ride to Buffalo, then taking the train. It should be fun. I haven't been in a couple of years, and it'll be good to see my friends again.

I really need to finish the strawberries. They're all on sale, everywhere, right now. I guess they're in season! But I got these on Friday, and they must be eaten tonight. I've got yogurt and a banana to mix in with them. Mmmm, smoothie. love

I finally finished my essay outline. smile Two years later, but it's done! Now to write the essay to hand in for the 8th. I can do it, I can do it, I can do it ...

Spring is in the air. The cats are going bananas. Really quite funny to watch. I'm so glad to see a green haze appearing on trees. I really dislike the stage of spring where most of the snow is gone and there's just the dirt and grime left over, and no new leaves yet. DIRTY.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the presidential elections in Zimbabwe play out. Mugabe lost, but the winning party has a minority, so there will be some positioning going on. I really hope they keep things together, as it would be such a tragedy for things to degenerate into violence after Mugabe is no longer in office.

I'm still trying to shake this damn cold. I got sick Easter weekend and it's just lingering. Bleh!

And now, sleep.
