I sometimes wonder why I allow other people to have so much power over my emotions.
I will repeat what I said in a previous blog, I enjoy my job, just not my current location.
As a property manager, among other things, it seems as though you take on the job
of a social worker...and the fact that I currently manager a property in what we shall call
*mini detroit*...well that should describe the environment I'm in.
I pride myself on being professional and being very good at my job...yet, I've come to figure out
you can't bring a knife to a gun fight...
That may sound strange, but let me explain:
What good is a professional, articulate manager that takes pride in doing her job and doing it well
if the people that she's trying to work with cannot/do not understand her and both parties find it
difficult to communicate? At that point I'm rendered useless...unless of course I do what I just did
and allow somebody to get under my skin and have me do something stupid like....
*shake my head* *sigh* I cannot believe I did this
After being yelled at over the phone by a resident who skipped out on her lease, trashed her apartment and then told me that I didn't do my job...I calmly tried to explain to her the proper steps to moving out and giving a 30 day notice and preping her unit for move out....when that didn't work and she told me that this is "fucking ridiculous", I told her..."YA KNOW WHAT???? You can call me back when you're ready to talk to me like the adults we are. I'm not going to sit on the phone and let you cuss me out for something that I had nothing to do with. Your responsibilities were explained to you when you moved in and you are now paying for your actions and your irresponsibility..." *she hung up*...
GRRRRRRRRRRR I was so heated after that, my adrenaline was flowing and I was so ready to hit the next person that walked through my door...
wtf is wrong with me? Why do I sometimes allow people to have that type of power over my moods and emotions?
I think I need a tattoo as a visual reminder ...
Any suggestions?

I think you handled the situation with the utmost poise. You growled but you didn't drop any expletives and that is key. You probably didn't even raise your voice that much. People don't get the best of us when we don't care. I think it just shows that you were outraged at someone trying to undermine your skill and you as a person--which is her immaturity at work and nothing more. It's so beyond frustrating to have to deal with people who constantly think that you're just there for amusement and that they can belittle you because it's your job to deal with them. Take it from me, hon. You did nothing wrong and you should just let this roll off your shoulders.

Awww you guys 
I was really prepared to come into work today and read responses to this blog, and somehow end up reliving the incident....
Luckily I have the most awesomest virtual friends and you guys all just made my day!
