Okay, so I go grocery shopping tonight. I'm putting my groceries in the trunk of my car when I get approached by this guy, and he's talking on a cell phone. He quickly hangs up. I got an instant "homeless guy wanting money" vibe by his appearance. I also thought he looked very familiar, but I couldn't quite recall (at that time). This guy has a very prominent cross hanging around his neck (that he keeps patting), and he proceeds to give me this sob story about how his car broke down up the road, but yet he doesn't need a ride anywhere. He keeps tellling me that he's man of jesus and blah blah blah, and that he and his family need to get home to another city and blah blah blah.
I didn't give him money.
Then it hit me! I had seen this same guy at another store up the road (a few weeks earlier), and I actually gave him money at that time. He simply asked me for money for food. Grrrrr...
I have a deep sympathy for homeless people, but I don't like being lied to.
Where is that fine line between scepticism and compassion?
