I've got a prettu big tattoo of a crane and lotus on my leg..(just a cool design I drew up) and I couldn't sleep last night because I kept thinking about how much I wish it were gone. Now, I know it's impossible to get rid of and I try my hardest not to regret it... I made the mistake of getting really fucked up and putting the first thing I drew on my body. Granted, it's pretty and organic looking, people should reall REALLY think before they just put something on their body...
I guess it wouldn't hurt for my family to quit bugging me about it. It's not like it washes off.

Anybody else kind of pissed about getting one of their tats?

That's the one reason I haven't gotten one - cause I'm so damned indecisive that I know in a year, or even less that that, I'm gonna be like "why in God's name is there a tattoo of a Wookie on my arm?"

I am a little pissed at myself for not walking away before my last small tattoo and finding another artist.
I had a very specific drawing that i made and wanted a good tattooist to make it perfect to what i had drawn out.
He said something to the effect that he wouldnt want my tattoo (the way i made it) representing his work on ther streets.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

I can understand if i came in and said, lets see your creativity and make something for me. I didnt. I made a drawing specific to an engraving i made on an artifact that was buried with someone and i wanted that drawing that i made.
I was looking for the best tattoo artist who could draw my design as good as I made it. THAT shows how good someone is, in a case like this. Besides, if anyone asks me NOW on the street, i will say, "Yeah, this jackwad over at IronAge Studios in St Louis talked me into making my drawing HIS drawing and in the end, and made it look at though he didnt have the same grasp over the english language and writing..." That what i say.

Oh no...this guy talked me into his modification and even though it is done well, it isnt what was buried...AND the way he wrote out a name looks to be read differently. People ask me what does it say? and they always say it wrong because i can see how they are seeing something.

It wasnt right and i live with it...but in my mind it is tainted because i made a mistake not to offend someone and compromised on a tattoo on MY OWN BODY!!
It is special to me, but it also reminds me not to ever ever ever listen to someone because of their own ego.

I kick myself everytime i see it because i didnt walk away and find someone who could see what i wanted on my own body. mad

When did you get it? Maybe you could take it back and get a refund wink
A year or so back I was dead set on getting band logos on my forearms and some lyrics on my back. And now I'm not too keen on either the bands or the lyrics. Got to be sure before I get anything!

i dont have ne tats atm. But i can see how u feel. I think if u look at it as something as a point in ur life rather than the here and now. It becomes a memeory of wot was and has been. Who knows 5 years down the road u might love it again. i tottally get the family bugging thing i get it everyday being a vegan. Idk if this will make u feel better (or im just being a dumbass) i like it [wot i can see >.>] very pretty very zen. neway take care tnx 4 the add ARRR!!!

I'm fine with my tats because I have thought long & hard before having them done and I decided on them because they had deep meaning and were defining pieces of my state of mind, not because they looked cool...

What really makes me laugh is all the 18-year olds that follow the trends of their age thinking they're unique. For example, on this very site, how many girls are going to cry about their huge chest piece once it's not considered cool anymore because it's been over-done and nobody cares at all. On top of that, they can say good-bye to their chances of getting a decent office job (unless they wear turtle necks all year). The other trend that makes me laugh is another girl-trend: the pseudo-poetry or lyrics that they get tattooed anywhere on their body. Once the teenage angst is gone, the tat will still be there, in all its glorious stupidity.

I waited and thought a long time before I got mine. I had my name tattooed on my arm in an old Irish alphabet. Kinda hard to hate your own name. All my tattoos are super personal, of my own design, and years in the "making." As you say, it's permanent, so I'm making no mistakes.

On the other hand, let it be the permanent reminder of a learning experience and embrace it as such. You'll probably like it a hell of a lot better.

I've never been able to think of anything to have tattooed that I wouldn't eventually wish were gone, so I can definitely see why you'd be unhappy with it. You could always just try and embrace it as a part of you, the same way a lot of people do with scars. Though, granted, scars aren't nearly as colorful. shocked

Actually, yeah. I studied Hung Gar gung fu for 4 years. It was a part time job, like 20+ hours a week. I've got the symbols for "tiger" and "crane" tattooed on my arm. It's tiger/crane style. BUT the guy who did it first - a friend of a friend- screwed it up. Instead of it looking like brush strokes, it looked like...crap. Then he did some stupid shading. I went to get it covered up, but they convinced me to turn it into an armband. Dude didn't even have me scheduled for 2 hours. Now there's 2 lines going around my arm..I never went back. They did semi-fix up the characters, though. Now, I'm just waiting to get some of that "wrecking balm" cream to get it lightened up a bit. Then I can get it fixed for real.

My brother does tattoos. It's like a point of contention between he and I when he talks about hoe people want something, and he wants to modify it. It IS a customer driven transaction. He maintains that he knows what will look best. Artists whatever

Why not have it covered up??? Put somethng that you actually like over it??? Is it possible for you to do that?

My dad had a tattoo he really didn't like... it was of my mother's name, 22 years together she left when I was 12, with a heart around it.... so he took an iron and burned it off... I wouldn't suggest it.... my dad's just insane! biggrin So.... I wouldn't advise that much....

well, if you can come up with the money you could get it lasered.... I'm sure it doesn't help you any know but i hold myself to the policy that i have to want something for a at least 6 months before i get it done, hence why i only have one tattoo, now you make me worried about the next one i want though.....anyway, sorry to hear you don't like it any more.
