Ugh... don't wanna go back to work tomorrow. But then I guess that's what keeps the world spinning hey? Well it's either that or existing angular momentum in a frictionless environment...

Yay I saw Muse tonight! They were awesome, plus it had been ages since I last had a good mosh and it was good to get that out of my system. Coming out of the place completely exhausted and literally drenched as if I had just jumped into a pool made me feel somewhat alive again, funnily enough.

There were some cool screen effects (particularly the laser bits), and the grand piano had a clear lid (opened) which had lights in different positions for every note, and they lit up whenever the associated key was pressed. Nice, simiple, but effective.

Music was, unsurprisingly, brilliant. Absolution is still my favourite album of theirs so I loved it whenever anything from that was played. Unfortunately for me they finished the second encore with Knights of Cydonia which it seems that everyone but me loves. I don't mind the song, I just don't go nuts over it. Oh well, at least Plug In Baby and Stockholm Syndrome were just before it.

In conclusion, wow.

I got an offer to see War of the Worlds (the musical going around these days) for free next Wednesday night. Should I take it??

I realise it may sound like a stupid question, but I've never seen the movie or read the book, and know practically nothing about it.

Answer in essay format.

I just booked in laser eye surgery for 10 August.

I've been wearing glasses since I was about 4, then moved to contacts late in high school. Once I got to university, however, I decided I couldn't be bothered putting them in every morning and taking them out every night and cleaning them every time (plus they'd start drying out after about 16 hours of wear, which was a bitch when you'd get up early and then have a late night), so my laziness forced me back to glasses. Then a few years later I started wearing those contacts you can sleep in and don't have to take out for a month. That, my friends, is one of the best advances in eye problem-fixing-ness. I've been wearing them for the last 3 years or so and have enjoyed "life without frames".

However more recently I've come to realise that the contacts still seem to attract more dust, debris and house bricks to the eye than I'd like, and having to look for a chemist to buy some saline solution to wash them in isn't always practical. Plus they seem to go hazy at times, and eye drops do nothing, so again the only solution is to take them out and give them a rinse.

Anyway so I bit the bullet and had the consultation visit last night, everything was fine, and now the surgery is booked in. Has anyone else here had it done or know of anyone having had it done? Any stories, good or bad? Probably the most interesting one I've read is here, even if it is a little unorthodox in its advertising tactics.

After many many years of the best intentions, but never quite getting round to it, I've started listening to more Muse. Everything I've heard in the past has made me drop my jaw in amazement, but only in the last week or two have I started listening to more. Especially Absolution. I am in love, simple as that.

I think I need this sort of thing in my life every now and then, just when everything else seems boring and old (particularly my job, which occupies the majority of my time), something like Muse comes along and wakes me up again.

Gigs I've bought tickets to lately:

- Guns N' Roses (ok ok, it's Axl Rose + his band, but anyway...)
- Alice Cooper
- The Shins

New things I've bought lately:

- Sennheiser CX-300 earbuds. Very nice sound, decent bass, blocks out external noise well. I can't even hear my phone ring at work!
- CoolerMaster XCraft external HDD case + Seagate 500Gb HDD to go with it. Finally I can move some porn off my laptop and make room for more important stuff... like more porn.

Saw Dylan Moran tonight. Felt motivated enough by his on-stage liquor habits to buy sufficient wine to drown a small colony of excited pygmies for myself. For those of you who read my last post, tonight's venture was much more successful than the last. I put this down to two reasons:
1. I placed my glasses of wine in front of my own feet, and
2. There was no one sitting behind me for the whole show.

Dylan himself was of course brilliant. He embodies most of the attributes I personally strive for, apart from the smoking. The fact that he gets the shits about... well most things... makes me feel a lot better about myself. The fact that the first half of the show lasted half an hour, however, made me question my financial motives. I think that after more wine during the interval he calmed himself down and got into the groove of things a little more, and the real Australian in him came out and bitched about the things that truly mattered, like having kids and how much better Maltesers are than marshmallows.

I know I'll probably later regret coming on here to bitch, but here it is anyway. I went to see Ross Noble tonight, which, in itself was brilliant. The man is a comic genius. He had probably 5 minutes worth of prepared material, and the other (close to) 3 hours was entirely made up on the spot, yet still had me practically in tears.

Anyway, my beef is this - and I'd like to know if others share my view or not:

After the show's interval I brought in two glasses of wine and a beer for myself. As I was going to have the beer first I put the wines under my chair right near the front, so they would be easily accessible during the show. Once I'd finished the beer I carefully went for the wines (I didn't want to knock them over), however my hand met with a knocked over cup. I felt further and my hand met with another plastic cup, also knocked over. I then felt the carpet, which was soaked with what must have been roughly the equivalent of the content of two glasses of red wine.

After further probing my hand then met with the backpack that the guy behind me had obviously put there. Not wanting to interrupt the show I took a deep breath and sat back to watch, figuring I would deal with it later.

Later in the show I moved my feet back to about 6 inches in front of my chair, but they met with the boots of the guy behind me - which remained motionless. I met with those boots a couple more times, but they remained motionless.

After a while I figured he could get fucked, grabbed his bag and threw it under the chair in front of me.

When the show had ended, he started asking me where his bag was. I explained to him the situation with the wine, and how he had knocked over $11 worth of wine with his bag and feet. He decided that that was not his problem, and demanded his bag. I told him he could get his bag when he gave me $11 for the wine he spilt. Arguments went back and forth about how he was sorry for my loss, but was not going to give me any compensation for spilling my drinks, while I thought he owed me something.

In the end, he walked calmly out of the theatre, after deciding I was an idiot. It was not until he was well out of the theatre that my mate pointed out "oh by the way, one of his mates took his bag". I had previously been thinking he was the fool for giving up on his backpack (which looked semi-professional), when in the end I missed his mate picking it up from in front of me.

What shits me is that you wouldn't walk past someone in a pub and accidentally knock over their beer, then say "oh sorry" and just walk off. You'd say something like "sorry mate, can I get you another one?" and pay for the drink you knocked over. This bloke knocked over two of my drinks and decided that since it was an accident he shouldn't have to do anything and I should just live with it.

I'll leave it there. At least I was able to get to the pub next door for a quick beer afterwards before my last train came.
