Another year another Rhythm and Grooves Festival
This one coincided with my birthday which was fabulous....had a wonderful time connecting with old friends and making magical musical merriment together....we crewed the festival dressed as pirates .
I don't have photos yet.....during a break in crewin I took a wee stroll and a few snaps...below are a couple of festy shots and some from the walk...more will go up on the web site when we get them.

So thanks for all the birthday wishes...I had a fantastic weekend at our annual Rhythm and Grooves Festival...Photos should be up on the site in a day or two when we have all caught up on some well earned sleep.The weather was fabulous so we had late night bonfires, acoustic music on top of the usual awesome drummingness that is our fessie.Everyone went home happy.
Jobs a Good 'Un.
Life is sweet right now...after a year and two months of living in my own space I have been asked by my good lady to move in with her again...we are building a cave under the house for me to go and growl in when I need it which is well cool...our relationship has subtley moved into a place of Peace...it's like after 25 years we finally get it....so we are madly in love and thats fine and dandy with me.Oh and whilst I was busy fessie'ing, my son took his friend to see our beloved City win 6-0...Lucky litlle Buggers.
I am trying really hard to stay with all this positivity...for years I have succumbed to the negative voice in me which endeavours to pull me into the shadows....the last 3 months have been full of people telling me good things about me and I am slowly starting to get it...Its fucking marvellous.
So I hope that life is good for you and if it is not be warned...Things can change.

We moved my daughter to University this weekend...I miss her lots and lots...I am doing a lot of crying right now.

So summer is slowly coming to an end...Mrs Kpan went back to work yesterday...my son is back at college tomorrow and my daughter is moving to Glasgow next week....Reality is biting...Me...I am still kinda in holiday mode...mooching about a bit...Today I did housework...am alsO doing lots of cooking which I like...my work will begin to pick up again mid Sept so I will chill until then...my body is breaking down slowly as a result of a very hedonistic summer...time to be nice to me.....I am away again soon for a week of Drum Circle training with my mentor and teacher Arthur Hull...once a year gathering of like minds and drummers so should be a blast...I am still putting together some picture files and shortly I will be able to post some interesting Kpan/family portraits...
Last night I watched this

for the first time in a loooooong time...in fact the first time I saw it I was out of my tiny mind on the old "pounds shilling and pence"...if ya know what I'm sayin??
Anyway...its just a beautiful film...I love it and heartily reccomend it.
Talking of beautiful things..I've been singing this all summer...and can now play it too
Finally I can share with you a few shots of the magical land we call Nanquidno...this is where we spent a good part of our summer...singing, drumming, partying, eating, drinking and Healing our travel weary bones.....Twas Beautiful.

Peace
Kpan

So my summer travels are done for now....had a fabulous time in Scotland and in Cornwall...The most amazing part of it all was that me and the beautiful Mrs Kpan really moved through some stuff and had a ball all Summer.....I cannot express how much I love this woman....she holds my heart in the palm of her hand and I trust her with it.

So I am pretty knackered...lots of summer partying and less sleep than usual...need a bit of recuperating time now....have lots and lots of piccies from various bits of the trip....here are a few to whet the appetite and I promise to load more when I have landed properly.

Well I will be absent from the site now for the best part of the next 4 weeks...I am off to my annual jaunt in fair Scotland to partake in the sensational small festival that is African Drum Village....I will be hooking up with many African Artiste friends and drumming, dancing and generally making merry....after that I am heading for Cornwall our crooked ancient foot of a place where I will be joining a whole bunch of freaks to celebrate 25 years of our dearest friends being together...gonna be one hell of a party...accompanying me on my travels will be camera and film a plenty....so lots to see upomn my return or if i get a pc to play at whilst away.....have a fab summer whatever the weather and wherever you may be or be going......and so a traditional blessing upon you fine folks.... (updated by me
)
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may you be held in the palm of Life itself.

So am back from a gig for 400 sixth form students followed by 4 daze at the Small Nations Festival......am exhausted but happy....took my son Lewis to work with me at both gigs so we had some well cool father and son time....he laerned how to set up for a 200 person circle, how to work through a festival with no sleep
and how to fix an exhaust problem with oven gloves
Small Nations was awesome once again with highlights for me being Bassekou Kouyate and The Bedouin Jerry Can Band
The quality of music was once again astonishingly good......but most of all I loved hanging out with a lot of very cool people in a stunningly beautiful place for 4 days......am well luvved up now
Didn't take my bloody camera though
