Hi, my name is Kevin Raad. I live in the Denver, Colorado. I've been doing photography for six years. I studied photography for seven semesters between high school and college. Three of those seven were AP or college level classes. Most of my work has been with film but recently got a digital SLR and am ready to expand my digital portfolio. I'd be willing to travel about two and a half hours to you but don't be afraid to come to me either.
I am not a staff photographer but I hope to become one in the future.

Well the first month of 2011 has come and gone. Here's a short recap of my January.
Jan 1 midnight - smoked cigars with my dad and brother and toasted the new year with brandy.
Jan 1-3 - heat went out in the apartment. It was a insanely cold!
Jan 5 - watched as my apartment filled with smoke and nearly burned to the ground.
Jan 7-30 - lived in a hotel, dealt with insurance companies/claims adjusters, furniture cleaners. Sure did learn a lot about insurance.
Jan 18 - Went back to school after a two and a half year break.
Jan 19 - Hired as an electrician apprentice and gave notice at the sign shop.
Jan 29 - found a new place to live, next door to my parent's house. Cheep rent and the other guys that live there are pretty cool. At least I don't have to move too far.
Jan 31 - first day of work.
It's been quite a month and a so far crazy year. I really hope the rest of 2011 isn't at all this hectic. I am in need of some calm and a good nights sleep.

For the last three weeks or so I've been living in a hotel. At the beginning of the month my apartment building caught fire and my apartment became no longer livable. So I became "displaced." I thought of people that were in hurricane Katrina or huge earthquakes as being displaced but I never thought I'd be one of those people. The fire itself didn't destroy my apartment, in fact the fire department did a spectacular job putting the fire out and saving all of my and my roommate's stuff. But not everyone was so lucky, the guy that lived below me literally lost everything. I was really luck, especially since I had just got renter insurance two months before the fire. So insurance is paying to clean all my smoke damaged stuff and is putting me up in this hotel.
But even as lucky as I am, staying in this hotel is excruciating. There is no place more lonely or despising or disgusting as a hotel.
I am in need of some hard core cheering up or at least someone to go out and get a few drinks with.

Farewell apt 2-302. I had many good and bad memories. A lot of great parties and messy morning afters. Some really good sex and plenty of lonely nights. Who knew it would all go up in smoke. Yesterday I made my last trip to the apartment to pick up the last of my things. It was a bittersweet goodbye to say the least. Thanks to all of you that came to one of our parties or just came to hang out. That fire may have taken away the apartment but I will never forget my first home away from home and the (almost) year I spent there.
My roommate and I played this game where we'd leave bananas and banana stickers all over the apartment, kinda like a game of tag but with bananas. Sounds stupid, was stupid, was pretty fun. This banana sticker on the toilet seat is the only one that lasted. The toilet, btw, is now in my old bedroom.
The apartment may be gone but the memories live on.

Ugh…. Every year I vow to not only make a new years resolution but actually keep it. One of last years resolutions was to move out of my parent’s house and I’m proud to say that I did successfully complete it! But I know I made several other resolutions, none of which I can remember now, so I think it’s safe to say that I didn’t accomplish them. But one out of several ain’t bad for me! So I feel like I should keep this streak going and actually accomplish at least one of several resolutions/goals for 2011, but what? I’m not gonna join a gym cuz I can’t afford it and I probably just won’t go. I say quit smoking every year and it usually never works (although I haven’t had a cigarette in like a month and I’m feeling good about it). So what should I vow to do/not do in 2011? Best response will win some sorta prize!!!

So, now I want to know how to get into doing SG photos. Ever since I discovered SG I've wanted to try my hand at the photography aspect of it. I have seven semesters of photo under my belt and a (not very well put together but I'll work on it) portfolio.
Anyone wanna gimme a shot?
