Soooooo, here's what's been happening:

-Finished work on my first movie as a Best Boy Grip, "Hateship, Friendship." Had an amazing time with an absolutely fun cast and crew, so thanks to Tony Rossi, Liza Johnson, Kristen Wiig, and Guy Pearce for being so wonderful to me. Great experience.

-Finished post-production on my short film, "The Lion's Den." Have been accepted into one small festival in my hometown, the others we'll have to see about.

Right now the movie business is a bit slow down here in the Big Sleazy, so I'm filling the gap stagehanding The Nutcracker, which I haven't done in years (I also used to dance every year in the show when I was younger, as my mother is the Artistic Director of the local ballet and I danced growing up). I spend all the downtime doing the dances in the wings and making faces at the ballerinas.

Also, big new! Starting my first feature-length script which I hope to shoot next August/September if the scripting goes well. Very, very excited about this one.

So there goes for updates. Have some pictures from my short. Total love to my SG family!zoom imagezoom imagezoom image

I'm trying to stay active on here, but work's been busy so I've only been able to keep up with a little stalking. I'm working on a cool little Indy with Kristen wiig, guy pierce an nick nolte. It's called "Hateship, friendship," and I think it'll be a pretty good movie. Probably the most fun I've ever had on set. Great cast, great crew.

Also, landed my next job as a BB (fuck yeah!) which starts the day after this wraps. Love being busy.

Hope all is well in your worlds, lovely SGers. If not - drink some booze, smoke some pot, find your escape. And if that doesn't work, come find me smile

New tat! Just a little nothing one, but I was feeling down last week, so why not some new ink? My next show got pushed a few days, so I'm using the extra time to work on editing my short film, 'The Lion's Den.' Just got the rough cut to a composer who will work on a score, so hopefully that'll be awesome.

Already thinking through my next project, 'cause you gotta stay busy from project to project, and already have the next one in development by the time you're finishing the last one (at least that's what they say, who knows, really) ((who is they? I dunno, the man?)) (((is this an appropriate way to convey random inner thoughts? Don't care, I'm using it))).

Finally, Final Cut X totally sucks. I upgraded and while it does do some great powerful work the layout and the options are crap-ass. At least it outputs something decent. I'm diving into really learning some of the finer points, but I end up screaming at my computer more often than not.

OK, enough boring stuff! Here's the pic:

And with that I leave you. Rock out with your cock out, lovers!

Oh, wow, I've been overwhelmed by the responses from everybody about my first set. smile I'm especially excited about comments from fellow hopefuls, sg girls, and of course, fellow techs in the business. The main feedback I'm getting is that I should probably smile more in the set. I didn't realize I looked so unhappy! I suppose I just had my grip face on, meant of course to intimidate all the 6"2, 200 lb. grips out there.

The whole thing is still a bit surreal for me. I am not really an exhibitionist in my life at large, and I've certainly never done ANYthing like SG or trying to be a model before. So, I suppose I will explain here wink

SG for me is all part of coming to terms with myself, my body, my sexuality. I guess I'm your typical American girl, overwhelmed by the media and extreme self-conciousness when it comes to my body. A low point came when I was seriously considering some major plastic surgery last year, and I ended up deciding, "to hell with it" and to try this before I went all crazy with the slicing and dicing.

I recently read about a Balpreet Kaur, a woman who humorously and gently defended her own unusual looks with the most grace and self-worth I think I've ever seen on the internet. If you haven't read this story check it out:
Balpreet Kaur

Although Balpreet has a (clearly) strong faith that gives her strength, I personally do not have (or want) that link to a higher power and those values. So I think that maybe SG is partly my journey to reach a place where I too, am comfortable in my own skin and don't feel the need to defend myself to others.

I want always to remember: another girl being beautiful does not make me less so; other's success does not negate my successes; I have nothing to hide from the world, because my body is not a dirty secret.

OK, so now that all that angst-y silliness is out of the way, good news. I have been hired on as a BEST BOY GRIP!!! for my first time. For those of you not in the film world, it's basically a promotion and a route I'm trying to move my career in. Its a veeeeery small show, but nevertheless. I'm excited smile

Thanks again to everybody for the amazing feedback and support. I am so happy to be a part of this community whatever happens. You are all part of my journey now.

Suckers.

SET GOES LIVE TODAY!!!

Super excited, nervous, I don't know. Never had a set up before, so we'll see how it goes. This seems like a very open non-hater community so either way I'm hoping it'll be a positive experience.

Check them out and give some feedback!

First post since the power came back on here in New Orleans. Uptown was dark for about 5 days as far as I can tell.

I was playing video games and got blazed and ended up eating all my hurricane supplies before the hurricane even hit. Instead I survived off of instant oatmeal for about 4 days. After day 2 I was pretty sure I had reached Nirvana or someshit.

Today I'm in preproduction world - only 1 week until we start shooting my second short film, "The Lion's Den." Very nervous about the whole thing all in all. Off to the coffee shop to finish drawing out my Storyboard, then meetings all weekend. Wish me luck!

I feel like New Orleans has the Jaws soundtrack playing over everything right now. My facebook page is blowing up with people: a) totally freaking out because of the hurricane or b) making fun of everyone else for freaking out.

I, myself, as a native of Louisiana am having a hard time getting too in to preparing. Hurricanes always represented getting off of school and spending some enforced time away from tv, internet, everything. It's kinda like adventure camping in your house.

That's not to say that people shouldn't prepare. Fears are not unfounded, after all, in the middle of Katrina-town. I do feel a bit ashamed as a career grip; our entire modus operendi is always be prepared (we're like Boy Scouts, but drug-addicted degenerate ones).

So here's how I've prepared for Hurricane Issac. I've gone to the only gas station I can walk to and bought as follows: 1 small bag of Flamin' Hot Cheetos, 2 candy bars, 1 bottle of Mountain Dew, 3 cans of Starbucks double-shot.

Bring it Isaac!

First SG blog! Super-excited but nervous about my first set going live (Sept. 26th @ 7PM).

In the meantime, filling my time-space continuum with my second short film, which I'll be directing next month. Location locked, completely cast, now all we've got to do is shoot it! smile It's called "The Lion's Den" and it's gonna be shot like an old episode of the Twilight Zone. Hopefully it'll be loads of fun, anyways.

Hard, however, not to be completely distracted these days. I've been having the most marvelous dreams, and it makes me want to just sleep every day away. I hate the days when waking up is disappointing. Only remedy (other than sleeping 14+ hours a day) is to try to write this shit down and hope that gets it off my mind or something. It's absolute fantasy/romance/porno/trash. Just like my mind.

So, hopefully I'll get the hang of this SG thing and become a real party of the community over the next month. Here's to gorgeous women in support of each others uniqueness and beauty!!
