For shits and giggles I thought I'd check the SG site to see what it would look like as an outsider again... and lo and behold! I'm still a member??? I'm a whole day past the cut-off point! I guess they don't want to let me go.
Well... I've said my goodbyes and I sure as fuck don't want to do that again so I'll leave you all with this...

Why not?

Last night we played with the RUBBER CITY REBELS (they used to play the local dives in Akron, OH with the likes of the Dead Boys and Devo back in '76) and some old friends of mine from Phoenix, the Glass Heroes, as well as our local friends the Luv Taps. This is going down in my book not only as one of the best shows I've ever played... but one of the funnest all-around bills I've ever seen as well.
First I'll start by tellin' ya that I've been going to Glass Heroes gigs since '91. I've been to more of their shows over the years than I could ever even begin to keep count of, which gives me a pretty objective opinion on their performances. Last night they fuckin' rocked the roof off of the Cooler Lounge! A smokin' set from an amazing band! Hopefully someday these guys will get an album out and the world will finally find out what they've been deprived of for the last 15 years.
Next up was the mighty Rubber City Rebels. For those of you who don't know about these guys, I'll begin by giving you a brief history. They originated from the same mid-70's Cleveland/Akron, OH scene that spawned the Dead Boys, Devo, Pere Ubu, and the Pagans. They relocated to L.A. around '79 or '80 but soon broke up. They have recently re-formed with all original members except for the bass player, who incidentally used to play in Seattle/SF punk titans the Lewd. So how are they now?

THEY
FUCKING
ROCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They played a (literally) 2 hour set that never sagged once. These guys still love doing what they do best and holy shit did it ever show! I can barely move today because I shook my ass all night last night... and it takes A LOT for a band to get me to do that anymore. Now what really made this a standout show for me happened at the end of their set... they came back for an encore to do a cover of "Personality Crisis", the New York Dolls classic... and invited yours truly to jump up on stage and play 2nd guitar!!! I'll say this modestly...
I fucking SCORCHED! What else am I gonna do? Being asked by these punk legends to get on stage with them and play one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands? There's nothing else to do in a situation like that but rock like the apocalypse is at hand! Later on Rod (the Rubber City Rebels' singer) told me I was like maybe the 4th or 5th person in their entire existence as a band they had ever asked to do that, and then the rest of the night they referred to me as an honorary 5th Rebel.
What a fucking night! I wish I could hit rewind and live it all over again!

Well... got about 10 more days 'til my time here expires, and I've got mixed feelings about that. I've met a few very interesting people here and had a few laughs, but overall I don't think it's gonna be worth it to renew. The things I like about SG I like a lot, but there are more cons than pros and since I'm payin' money to be here (even if it is a small amount), well... nuff said on that.
Those of you who wish to stay in touch may do so through my email (brewzerr68@hotmail.com), or visit me at my space... search for Brew (my real name). I'll be there a lot. I'll probably post a few more journal entries before I'm out the door, and I'll continue to post these links with them.
Thought for the day:
Voting for Bush = supporting terrorism.

OK... so on Thursday evening I started feeling a little queasy, whatever. Took some Pepto and waited for it to pass. No such luck... about a half-hour later I was puking my guts out. Puke done... thank God that's over with, right? Wrong!!! It just kept getting worse and worse and worse all night long. I was violently puking about every 15 min. and by the 3rd or 4th time blood started coming up and I was running a 103 degree fever. That's when my roommate decided to take me straight to the ER. Now usually I hate hospitals and treat them as the ultimate last resort, but I was extremely relieved when we arrived there. The doctor said that I had one of the nastiest stomach viruses he'd seen in a long time and they kept me there under observation for 24 hours.
I still am having a hard time keeping food down and my body is still in pain from the extreme nature of the other night's yakking (my forehead is a road map of what looks like varicose veins - actually busted blood vessels from puking so hard), so I'm gonna be home for the weekend. Fun, fun, fun.
Thought for the day:
"You're obliged to pretend respect for people and institutions you think absurd.
You live attached in a cowardly fashion to moral and social conventions you despise, condemn, and know lack all foundation.
It is that permanent contradiction between your ideas and desires and all the dead formalities and vain pretenses of your civilization which makes you sad, troubled, and unbalanced.
In that intolerable conflict you lose all joy of life and all feeling of personality, because at every moment they suppress and restrain and check the free play of your powers.
That's the poisoned and mortal wound of the civilised world."

Played a good gig last Sat. night. Met dickvegas at the show. Cool guy. Gotta go out and look for a goddamn job in a few hours... whoopee!!! Necessary evil. I'm really starting to wonder if having your own business is some unattainable pipedream that people lie about. Ah, I'm just trying to keep bitterness at bay.
Lovely society we live in, innit?

OK... it's been a strange and stressful week in the land of JackShit. Almost slammed the door shut on SG this week for many reasons... most of which were of a personal nature and really had nothing to do with SG itself or any of it's members. I just have a lot on my plate right now and it's been a bit overwhelming. When I get stressed my fuse gets much shorter so sorry if I stepped on any toes that didn't deserve stepping on.
Many, many thanks to everyone who talked some sense back in to me. You are the reason why I'm still here and it makes me feel much more wanted 'round these parts. Yooz are all the best. I'll probably be spending 99.9% of my time at SG in the Aging Punks group... where I belong.
Have a stiff one on me. (a drink, that is)

Man, I'm fuckin' pissed off today! And why not? There's PLENTY to be pissed about, so I won't even bother with particulars. It feels good to be angry instead of just jaded and indifferent like I usually am. All my best ideas and creations have been born out of anger... but then again most of my worst hardships and consequences were results of my anger too, so I really have to watch it when I get like this. I'm just sick of all the bullshit that's stacking up out there.
Bottom line: People fuckin' bum me out. Not all of 'em, but a good 98%.

Just want to say thank you to everyone who's taken a shine to the Aging Punks group. It's shaping up to be a very cool group.
I'm sorry if I haven't gotten around to thank everyone individually in their journals, but I honestly wasn't expecting to get as many hits on this as I have. It's very reassuring to know that there's other SG members out there who feel the same way... I was about to give up on this place.
Have fun with it... I know I will.
