My latest kick: "Mad Max" and "The Road Warrior". I've been re-watching them a lot lately. I first saw "Mad Max" on late-night HBO when my parents were asleep, and it kicked my ass. A few years later and I snuck into "The Road Warrior" with a friend; It was opening night (yeah, I'm that old), and I had no idea what I was in for. I walked out of the theater convinced I'd just seen the coolest movie ever made. 25 years later and I'm still not convinced any movie has ever beaten "Road Warrior" in terms of stunts, cars, action, characters or balls-out, exhilarating awesomeness. And at this stage I find it difficult to believe any movie ever will. There's no way, in our cgi-drenched moviemaking climate, that anyone will ever top the stunts in this movie. And don't bring up "Terminator 2" or any other bloated Hollywood flick; I like quite a lot of these big-budget movies quite a bit, but when you have that much money to throw at every challenge, it had better be good. "Road Warrior" was made for just under 4 million dollars, in 1980 money. That probably translates to about 10 to 15 million now, which is still just mind-boggling. So I was hanging out with these kids in Culver City a few weeks ago, real boot-wearing, aggro-loving modern primitive types. We were talking about d.i.y., underground culture, etc., and I asked them what they thought of the Mad Max movies. They looked at me, cocked their heads like a dog being shown a card trick, and asked "what's that?" My jaw dropped and I immediately changed the subject lest I berate them for being such assholes. So what if it's 25 years old? So is "Star Wars", but everybody knows what that is, and the worst Max movie ("Thunderdome") is still light years better than anything George Lucas has done in, well, almost 25 years. Am I getting that fucking old? Is the generation gap not a myth? What the fuck?zoom image

Hi folks.

Hey!

Anybody interested in going to see "The Dark Knight" with me? I don't talk in movies, I smell great, and the after-movie conversation is guaranteed to be both bellicose and accommodating! Let me know!

Whoo hoo!

Jeez, it's been a while. My bad.

I blame the city. I don't have a web connection at my place, and it's easier to find a legal virgin with a 170 i.q. than it is to find a reliable free wireless connection in this town.

And on a completely unrelated topic: where are all the L.A. hotties? I know they have to be here somewhere, but holy shit are they not hanging in my part of town. Where are the comics-loving punk rock chicks? Help.

Hopefully the next time I update it'll be with some juicy info about my movie stuff. Crossin' the fingers, I am.

Happy new year, everyone. Some of us will get our hearts broken. Some of us will succeed, fail, or both. Some of us will have the epiphany that changes everything in our lives, and others will end the year wondering how they managed to do nothing worth noting. Some of us will die. Some of us will give birth. To you, dear reader, here's to having the life you deserve, and may your new 365 be filled with the strength, drive, compassion, and nobility that characterizes humanity at its best.

Go check out the trailer for my movie, "Day X", in the video section of my profile. I'm only suggesting this to people who have responded to my friends request. It was never my intention to spam, since I myself fucking hate spam, so I hope nobody gets offended or anything. Anyway, I think it's a cool trailer, and I believe you will, too. But if not, feel free to leave comments and stuff telling me why I dropped the ball. This is America, right? I can take it.

Seriously, though. Hope you like it.

I've been messaging "total strangers" here over the last day or two, encouraging them to check out the trailer I have in the videos section. I got a message from the SG moderator that this is spam. Huh? Am I supposed to fully customize everything I send out, message-wise? Seems like a bit of a blurry line, tell you the truth. Anyway, sorry if I offended anyone, but I'm not that sorry. I mean, jeez, all I'm doing is asking you to watch something, FOR FREE, that I think is cool, and that you probably will, too. All things considered, it's a lot less blatant than a wishlist.

some of ya need to lighten up,

I never really thought of myself as having the ideal qualities for a career in prostitution. Nonetheless...

My movie is coming out on dvd, and therefore I must do a little whoring:

11/27/07, at a Netflix site or video store near you, "Day X" is coming. Please rent it or buy it. If you copy it please do so to show to friends you think also might like it. If you like it, by all means contact me so I can compliment your good taste. If you think it completely sucks, please keep your opinions to yourself, stupid.

It's "technically not a zombie movie", but I won't let that stop me from saying, uh, it's basically a zombie movie. Not as gore-heavy as the Romero films it so obviously steals from, my movie puts a little more emphasis on post-9-11 paranoia and the performances. We shot the movie for not much money at all, so our action scenes and set pieces are modest. Still, I'm proud of, and you just might be surprised by, what we pulled off.

So there. My baby goes out into the world on November 27. Be nice to it.

that is all.

p.s. for those of you who think ambition and accomplishment make a man sexier, i have no shame, and will easily give my phone number.

Got into L.A. last night. Slept, but not on the futon I was promised but on the floor. Cuz the doberman peed on the bed. Not sure if that's a sign or not (it's a seriously sweet dog, so I kinda doubt it). Been driving up and down Western, Sunset, Wilshire, etc., looking for a decent place to buy a dvd or two (28 Weeks Later is out today).

The drive here was 20 hours, 1400 miles. Took me through West Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. For the record, huge stretches of Arizona stink. I mean literally. Humankind was never meant to be there in the first place, but we've made it so much worse with the industrial stink bomb we set off. When driving through AZ, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you roll and keep up your windows.

That is all.
