i nearly choked on a fruit gum while watching this

on the telly earlier this evening.

So... it's a few weeks since I started my new job, and I'm having some serious problems.

The core of it is this: because the department I am in is groaning under the sheer weight of work coming in, I am not getting proper, thorough training; the people responsible simply don't have the time. They're aware of the situation, and that it's bothering me, but are struggling to help, though I am having a discussion with someone about it tomorrow.

I've got no previous experience in this industry at all, and I need all the help I can get on top of just having to settle in to a new job at a new company - and this had me jittery enough to begin with.

It's bad enough that I'm not sure I'm going to last much longer. I wasn't sure I was up to it before I started (partly down to my natural pessimism and almost complete lack of self-confidence, I admit), but there's so much pressure generally that I can't see that I'm going to get the time I need to build up the confidence I need to do the job properly. And it's complicated, detailed work; not the kind of thing where I'll be able to struggle by for a while.

The situation is made worse by a few other factors, but that'll do for now. It's all so depressing, especially after having been out of work for quite a while. I hate it.

i want to go here and here. not sure if i'll make it before christmas, but at least they both last for a couple of months. i've been to the wildlife photo exhibition in...2007, i think, and it was brilliant. definitely worth a visit if you're in the area while it's on.
