Alright then kids, it's time for a bit of space porn.

First up we have this beauty. It's an image of the spiral galaxy NGC 5907 surrounded by what the boffins call a stellar tidal stream (made up of what's left of another galaxy that was gobbled up by 5907), but to me it looks more like some aliens have been flying some big-assed loop-de-loops in their flying saucers.

A little closer to home, our old friend Mr Hubble is still working away, and he recently picked out Jupiter's growing collection of red spots, this fucking big space ribbon and a nice collection of galaxies, known as the Coma Cluster.

I can't really bang on about the Hubble telescope without mentioning the Hubble Deep Field, which is probably my favourite photograph, at least in this universe. If I remember rightly, the boffins pointed the telescope towards Ursa Major, at a patch of sky narrower than a grain of sand held at arm's length, and held it there for 10 days. The vast majority of the 3000 or so points of light in the picture are galaxies, and the light from the most distant of these galaxies took about 12 billion years to reach earth. I think it's the single most breathtaking thing I've ever seen.

Finally, we have the news that Voyager 2 has recently reached the edge of the solar system, about 8 billion miles away. I find all this endlessly fascinating and awe inspiring, but it also makes me a little sad, because sometimes I think I'd like nothing so much as to see all that for myself, and without either (a) my own rocket ship or (b) some really strong drugs, something tells me that isn't going to happen any time soon.

And to round off on a completely unrelated note, here is today's song of the day: The Time Is Now by Moloko

I spent most of last night at work checking the Hubble site.

Water and methane detected on a 'Hot Jupiter' class planet? I for one welcome our new alien overlords. biggrin

I completely relate to what you said about the experience being 'dizzying'. I'm totally blown-away that someone you spent every single day with for three years and thought you knew would turn around and do that. Not only that, but they can wake up every morning and look in the mirror and feel alright about it.

I know if it was me I'd feel awful about myself and as if I'd failed totally in being able to make a connection with another person.

And if I was 32 and felt that way about a 17 year old, I'd probably seek some sort of psychological help, even just because it's obvious to everyone on the exterior that you're having some sort of crisis that relates to getting older.

Well, the impression I seem to be getting from him is that he's disappointed things had to end between us so messily, but he misses me as a friend and doesn't give a second thought to the loss of our relationship.

Well, I'm not sure I understand him anymore. I think I've pretty much finalised any friendship/relationship renewal between us since I just referred to him as a 'grade A cunt' in a reply to an e-mail he sent me. whatever

While those pictures were amazing, I find your definition of 'space porn' misleading tongue

And my artist is Kev Turner. He does really good stuff smile

You can't beat some Soggy Bottom Boys wink I like your new picture smile

Yeah, unfortunately the guy was telling the truth. Those stories were actually pretty mild compared to some...it's a strange world.

I love space pictures. Love them. As a kid I won a competition to look through one of the most powerful telescopes at the time, it was awesome, especially as I just had a little £1.50 plastic thing from Woolworths biggrin

A remake of Capricorn One sounds about right , im waiting for a remake of 2001 within ten years or so.

I recommend Breach , i put it on in the background last night and within 5 minutes was sat watching it. Chris Cooper is very good in it.

So go check it out.
