Damn, what a band list in your profile. I regularly Waits and Neil and Nick Cave songs at my shows and love Mingus.

I was totally blown away by Soul Coughing at a HORDE Festiva (with Neil Young as the headliner). I didn't know SC then, but they not only played their own timeslot, but filled in for the great Taj Mahal, who was sick and filled in at least one other slot. VERY weird groove they caught and rode out during their sets. It was like they were surfing and caught a weird pulsating electronic wave and rode it for a half hour at a time. I really wish I could find some Soul Coughing live recordings.

Let's see: King Crimson. One of my favouri live videos I have is Crimson in Japan - unbelievable - I only saw them live once in person, but have seen Adrian a couple other times, one of which was sitting in with the Talking Heads. He and Fripp are both unfreakingbelievable.

Yeah, I've played quite literally hundreds of cover songs (likely thousands, actually, and keep a database on an old cheap laptop of lyridcs and chords to use as a cheatsheet/teleprompter when I feel the need to do a song I don't "have down" or a hot chick or guy who seems really cool or a random person makes a viable request. I usually try to have a girl handy to do the searches for the songs - the trick is having a friend able and willing to do that or find a patron at the bar willing and not too drunk to do it - so when I get a request they can search and turn the screen to me and I do whatever's there. I need to go, 'cause I'm onstage right now and the owner kind of wants me to start playing again.

when I get some new stuff recorded, I'll let you know. My last band (I'm currently with The Park Bench Mutations, but they only do festivals a couple times a year), "Carpe Noctem," recorded about 15-20 hours of stuff for an album "Stuffin' Yer Muffin," but my studio got burglarized and although I got most of the equipment back, the music was wiped out - long story - if you're interested I'll tell you later in more detail - for now, suffice it to say it will not go unpunished - but we had so much great shit recorded - the best fucking band I ever played with - and I've been playing professionally since 1983 or '84 - we made some NOISE! I got them to start doing space/feedback jams and stuff and take chances and just play fucking Balls-To-The Wall and make the builiding SCREAM!!!!! The walls would fucking BLEED!!! And bassically, I SUCK!!! but I seem to be able and expected to reluctantly lead every damn gorup I get involved with even though I'm always the least talented, and I am not a great singert t they always make me do the most 'cause I have the best memory (and ability to make shit up on the spot). I have the tracklisting of most of the lost recordings if you're interested - but there is ZERO chance that any of it still exists.

And thanks for the link!

I gotta go. There's a tornado watch or warning; I'm not sure which. And the owner's glaring at m to start playing!

Gilgamesh (Little Songs of the Chief Officer of Hunar Louse) appealed to me more. Crocodile was about isolation and struggling to conform, but Gilgamesh was more about longing and the need for connection, even if at the expense of whom one wishes to connect with. Or maybe not. I love everything by The B. Quay, so it's hard to pick a favorite. Do you like Svankmajer's work?
