welcome to Girls Only. please read the sticky threads at the top of the topic list, and jump right in! smile

PS - I read your journal entry abut the ADD meds, and I respectfully disagree with your viewpoint. yes, meds are over-prescribed in general, but for some of us, ADD medication is a godsend. as someone who has struggled with ADD my whole life, I can tell you it was nearly miraculous the improvement in my life when the correct medication was prescribed for me in 9th grade (we had spent two years looking for the right fit). please do not condemn or accept as a blanket statement, but understand that these things need to be decided on a case-by-case basis. my need was real, and there was a marked response in my academic abilities and spocial skills (to medication) that has been tremendously enriching to my life. also, Adderall, Ritalin, and other ADD meds are generally stimulants similar to coke and recreational drugs. they do not work that way on the brain chemistry of those of us with ADD. instead of amping us up, these drugs help us focus, and channel our already boundless energy. the medication I have been on for 12 years is an amphetamine, but I'm no speed freak. my brain chemistry is simply different from that of most people. one interesting thing I've read is that individuals with untreated ADD tend to be more likely to abuse stimulant drugs than the general population, mostly because those recreational drugs serve as a form of self-medication, and truly work to calm them. ...just my $0.02

You forget that I have ADD too so yes, I do understand that they need to be looked at on a case-by-case situation, but they arent and thats what pisses me off.

I am easily misread.
