Ooof... that went rough.

So, I was informed by the bride's mother that we'd have just enough time to maybe set up and possibly do one song before the whole reception had to be cleaned up and gone.

That sort of information would have been lovely to have if it wasn't a half an hour before we were going to set up.

So, my bassist is pissed, and I wasted $200 and three people's time.

Just in time for another week of school. I'd love it if my eye stopped twitching in the near future, but given the amount of sleep I'm bound to get this week, I doubt it will.

Just keep tubthumpin', I guess.

That's a blog.

Wow, this term's been tough. I don't think I've operated for a longer period of time on less sleep.

While I'm loving my film music analysis class, I find myself wishing I had one fewer classes so I could actually recover from the amount of homework I get from it. It's work I like to do, but I get home late from classes and have an 8am class 4 days out of 5. Weekends are usually jam packed with work or a drive to Portland to make sure my social circle in the home town doesn't dry up.

Good god j'all, I need some sleep.

My band is playing for my friend's wedding reception this weekend, which should be a lot of fun. With the wedding out of the way, though, we'll have some time to work on more of our own material, as well as expand our repertoire to fill 2 hours with music so we can start playing shows in Eugene. Our home base for practice is Spirit bar in Springfield, and they'll let us put on gigs so long as we can fill those 2 hours. Of course, we can probably do smaller shows elsewhere and we've got friends in bands willing to have us for openers, so news about shows should start trickling on in pretty soon!

Man, haven't blogged in a while!
How's everybody doing?

Random blog time again!
Had a great spring break road trip. A piece of advice: never drive up highway 1 with a hangover... ouuuuch.

Spring term's starting up and so is Undead Oregon's game of Humans vs. Zombies! We pioneered turning the game into a survivathon fundraiser and consistently raise about $600 a year. I'll be running a Rampage and a Jolt, plus socks. I'm still debating running my Rayvn as a secondary... probably for missions. My Rampage is a great multi-roller.

Band practice today! We're gearing up to play my friend's wedding next month as well as getting an EP together so we can officially get our act on the road!

Anyway- just the update before I run to class

Stay weird,

B B B B Blog time!

Hey there folks! My big brother and I will be going on a road trip to San Fransisco, Tahoe, and Reno (or thereabouts. We're sort of making it up as we go and looping back to Oregon).

In short- any Californians or Nevadans have any recommendations for awesome things to see, clubs to hit (or something more, y'know, interesting than clubs... god why did I mention clubs...?), places to crash...? Scratch that last part. Creepy much?

Regardless, we'd love any input on things to do or check out. I mean, I know the best adventures are the ones that happen spontaneously, but in between spontaneous moments, it'd be sweet to have... side quests? Options?

Thanks to... heck, anyone who comments!

So that happened.

It's blog time!
Guitboxer here. I'm finally done with finals! I can now sit back and relax while I live in denial for a week that I absolutely bit concrete this term and hope to hell that my awful academic life doesn't come back to haunt me.

I got a singer though. The band is looking up. Especially since this guy's been searching as hard for a band as we were for him. He's offering so much in the way of gear and talent that I almost want to tell him to slow down... but I don't feel like telling him any time soon XD

ALSO: HOLY SHIT NEW SUPERGIANT GAMES GAME THIS THING LOOKS BEAUTIFUL!!! If you haven't played Bastion, buy it right now on Steam or XBLA and get your world rocked. These people will get in your head and tell you a goddamn story and you will goddamn appreciate the ever living hell out it. I do not say "do yourselves a favor" lightly. Your Brian's been craving it, you've been craving it, I know for a fact that y'all have at least two hours cumulative of spare time... but I digress: TRAILER:

Early mornin' blog time!
It's been a week and my hand's feeling a lot better. Still a bit painful in the vicinity of my ring-finger-knuckle, but it isn't freezing up my whole hand. The weekend was pretty cool; I went airsofting for the second time in my life. Didn't win up getting shot, but I got a few hits of my own! It was dark before we actually started, so I took advantage of some really awesome shadows cast by the walls of the house we were around.

Last night I went on my semi-ritualistic walk to the end of 13th street. I go there when I need to shed an emotional skin, so to speak. A few years ago, I was feeling pretty low and decided to take a long walk to wherever my feet would lead me. After a while, I realized that there was more sidewalk and when I looked up, I saw:

It was kind of a powerful moment. It was, quite literally, a sign. I'm not exactly a spiritual guy, but certain serendipitous events like this can leave an impact. It was like an excuse to just rid myself of the negativity I was holding onto; a mental detox. Last night, I added the step of bringing a lighter with me. I think it was because of that night that I started collecting them, even though I don't smoke (cigarettes, anyway). The idea was that I remember carrying a lighter and scraping the flint against the metal in the opposite direction of lighting it. This time, I imagined the scraping to be a literal scraping off of all the bullshit that happened over the last year. I lit it for a good minute when I reached the sign. Felt symbolic.

I really needed that.

Man, today's crazy.
Cool thing: ran for 3.14 miles without stopping, averaging 9:54 with a best mile of 9:45. Not my best mile, but holy crap did I turn on the endurance today!

Crappy thing: shortly thereafter I got hit by a car on my bike while I was on my way to class. Legs seem pretty okay, but it seems I've sprained the area between my pinky and ring finger. I should be better in a couple days, but I don't think I'll be picking up my guitar in a bit frown

Wha-hey! It's another blog update!

SO my band has a singer! He's done pretty much everything we've asked of him and we got along really well within the first couple days of auditions. He's directly inspired writing on a new song which is begging to be another 6-minutes-or-more track... wonder how many of those work on an album. I mean, prog-rock bands get away with it all the time, and hell, "Jesus of Suburbia" tops out at, what? Nine minutes for a punk song? I guess as long as they stay interesting, it's all good.

Finished up lyric writing on "Roses" and "Morbid Apollo". That makes seven finished songs with finished lyrics, one instrumental, three finished songs with incomplete lyrics, and approximately four or five ideas still in "The Werks", not counting anybody else's ideas, of which I know there are plenty.

Good god, I need to be back on stage. I've been in a dismal mood for the last year and a few months, and I've needed a major reboot of the systems, so to speak.

I really can't wait!!!

TAKE LUCK!

Yeah, yeah, I've been away for a while... and that these were supposedly supposed to be on Thursdays, but I'm bored, god dammit!

I've got a new hopeful singer lined up for an audition. Sounds kinda classic-grungy. A bit like Kurt Cobain from his demos, but I'm still wondering what he can do with his upper register. He plays guitar, so that's a big plus. I haven't done a whole lot of writing for two guitars on the tracks I've written so far, but I'm hopeful we can add some parts and collaborate further in the future... well, hopefully. He still has to not only make it through the audition with everyone liking him, but also stick around and, y'know, actually be a part of the band.

SO YEAH. Stay positive, right? Not this morning, anyway. If you're looking for parking on campus, you might as well shoot yourself, since you'll get more satisfying results faster.

Whatever... just crack a beer and put on the Dr. Who. Just finished "Blink" again!

Huh, it's only been a week. Cool!

Guitboxer here again. Contacted two candidates for the vocalist position, but I'm not getting my hopes up for experience's sake. Adjusting to a new winter term schedule that's designed to give me the time to work a part-time job. Turned in some applications, but no news yet. Wish me luck!

OTHER NEWS:
Had a bit of a debacle with my headphones the other day. My right bud crapped out, so I bought a new pair, but accidentally sliced through the cord with my razor... I still shudder about that moment. Found a cool new restaurant near campus that I might start frequenting... though they're a bit pricy.

MY BIRTHDAY IS IN 6 DAYS. I WILL BE 21. DEAR GOD, I'M OLD.
