Bad reasoning or poor logic destroys benefits of information. Bad reasoning is to information what improper use is to tools. You can have all the tools in the world, but if you don't use them properly, you might as well have been bereft of the tools.
But you've put your finger on an interesting issue. Socrates believed there is no such thing as a good or bad person; all moral shortcomings, for him, stemmed from lack of knowledge.
You said it... Blissfully ignorant. At some point our culture made it, not just acceptable, but "cool" to be ignorant. People actually take pride in the things they don't know. Most Americans would rather be a famous actor than be a doctor helping to cure cancer.
