There are plenty of good cities before you hit London.

Manchester is great (though I haven't been in a long long time), I really enjoy Birmingham (somewhere that I aven't been in a long time again), Nottingham is great for the alternative scene and Sheffield is pretty awesome as well! I've only been to Bristol once, but it's a nice place.

If I was in your position, I'd just look for a new job and see where I end up!
