My Thoughts on the Canadian Leaders Debate

Note: I was listening to the debates on CBC Radio while delivering pizzas. I did miss a few minutes during the debate because I actually had to do some work and I missed the last 20 because I wasn't in my car.

- Harper sounds sleazy. Not because of anything he was saying (although that didn't help) but just his voice. He sounds dishonest and cold.
- Gille Duceppe sounded like the most reasonable of all five leaders. The head of a single province party should NOT come off as the one with the most knowledge of national politics. It makes the rest of them sound like children.
- Dion did better than I expected. He did stumble from time to time but his mediocre English didn't hinder him nearly as much as it could have.
- "Stephen Harper = George Bush" gets really annoying, really fast. Even if it does apply in some cases, it's a lame thing to keep parroting.
- I just about drove off the road during the section regarding the arts. Listening to Harper try to deny government censorship was fucking infuriating.
- Elizabeth May just tore into people. She sounded strong. However, since she appears to be leaning closer and closer to siding with Dion and the Liberals I can't give her my support.
- Yes Mr. Harper. You've created more jobs. Unfortunately, they're seriously shit jobs. Replacing a skilled auto worker with two McDonalds drones should not be a point of pride.
- At the end of the debate my mind hasn't changed at all.

My original plan was to update this journal with some of my thoughts about the Canadian Leaders' Debate last night.

Now, I will probably post some of my thoughts in a few hours but right now I'm going to have breakfast.

Birthday was good. I ate an unholy amount of sushi and played Rock Band for something like 8 straight hours.

Jody bought me a wonderful cast iron dutch oven. She's the best girlfriend ever.

This week is all work. Hooray.

I need to get back in shape.

My birthday is coming up on Friday. I'm looking forward to it. Not because it's some big event or I'm looking forward to getting older... Just because it gives me an excuse to go for all-you-can-eat sushi and play unholy amounts of Rock Band. And, on top of that, get drunk on sangria.

No other exciting news really...

Was I always this boring?

The Against Me! show made me feel old. But it was a good show and I had fun. After the show we went out for a friend's going away party. The bastard is moving to Nottingham for a year...

After being up until almost 6 we got up and my parents took us to the River Cafe for brunch. The food was pretty good but I was exhausted. On top of that we went out for karaoke for Going Away Party II. Much soju was consumed. I spent half an hour trying to help the staff fix the horrible feedback in the speaker system but ultimately failed.

Work is going decently so far. I've been listening to audiobooks while driving around. I'm in the middle of The Shock Doctrine now and I'll be moving on to Snow Crash when that's done. Suggestions are welcome.

We went to see Bloc Party last night. Fantastic show. Shout Out Out Out Out opened and I enjoyed them. Which is impressive since I really don't go for dancey music much. Against Me! on Saturday. Must remember to buy ear plugs. Did some serious damage to my ear the last time I saw them.

My only complaint right now: People who don't tip delivery drivers. Fuck them. Fuck them right in the eye.

So pizza delivery wasn't too bad. Apart from one lady not being home and having to stand around with her stupid kid and his friends to wait for her to show up, everything went smoothly. I swear these kids couldn't have been older than 13 and yet they were swearing more than I do. On top of that, I actually heard one of them say to another "Fuck you stupid shit n*****". Now, all three of them are whiter than Wonderbread...

Busy week coming up. Working tomorrow through Tuesday looking after the night shift at the gaming cafe. Delivering pizzas Thursday and Friday. Going to see Bloc Party on Wednesday. Against Me! on Saturday.

It came to my attention yesterday that, despite being a big Kevin Smith fan I don't actually own any of his movies. I have both of the Evening With Kevin Smith DVDs but none of his films. Which is too bad because that's what I really feel like watching right now. Perhaps I'll have to break down and go to Blockbuster... Lame.

So I'm a pizza delivery boy now. We'll see how this goes. It'll be nice to have income again.

I've been listening to Envy a lot on a friend's recommendation. I'm really enjoying them. Any similar band suggestions would be welcomed.

Republicans make my head hurt. Even the Conservative party at their most prickish don't make me want to strangle people that much.

Because I need to replace that crap ass entry...

Branching off a discussion from yesterday: America decides to invade Canada. What do you do?

Me... I'm hiding in the woods and taking cheap shots at Montana.

Well, I obviously didn't walk under a bus or anything. Still pretty upset about the whole job thing. Not so much upset at them any more. Just angry that I'm apparently completely incapable of being a fucking adult and supporting myself.

I've managed to pick up a few shifts working at a LAN gaming cafe run by a friend. It's not great money but at least it's something I guess.

I need a haircut.

I wish I could write again. Maybe actually put more than three lines down before my brain stops working.
