Then played with some balloons:

A week of aeroplane-ing, train-ing, dancing, waiting, drinking, recording, reading, and nocturnal frolicilng.

I went back to Italy to do some recording for my dissertation on the pronunciation of a sound which is different in English and Italian. Its a nice excuse to go back and see everyone, and I love phonetics and second language acquisition so my meager yet enthusiastic brain is happily consumed with wafeforms and frequencies and neurological maturation theory.

I went to stay with my friend in for a few days.

He helped me blag my way into the British council and the British consulate to do some recording, made awesome food everyday, took me out for a traditional dinner and impressed me by managing to stay up all night drunken composing for a lesson at 9 at the Milan conservatorium. On my last night our original plans to go to a club were compromised as we spent about 3 hours wandering around the freezing cold streets of Milan trying to make sure a drunken Spanish girl got home safely. At this point all the clubs were closed, but he had promised me dancing, so dance we did, on the stairs of the local bingo hall, which was the only place we could find open at that hour.

I soaked in some culture: when I realised you could get tiramisu and cappucino flavoured milkshakes in Mcdonalds.

However I felt instantly guilty when I remembered the rainforests. Did you know that everytime you drink a macdonalds milkshake a baby gibbon dies? If you have a delicate palate you can taste the gibbon tears.

There are a few things I dont understand about Milan...

Why anyone would pay millions for this:

How you can have shops with only 2 lamps in them:

Sadly I never seem to get enough time to get to the gallery and this will have to wait until next time:

In my old town I caught up with these fools:

And had a barbequing drinking card playing bong night like this:

And went to see my Marco in his basketball match:

And put Lisa in the car boot:

And we spent a happy day drinking coffee, watching badly dubbed queer as folk, listening to underoath and perving at naked ladies on the internet:

And went for a drive, and sneaked into a farm:

And spent far too much time in airports and trainstations after no sleep looking like this:

Reading battle royale and this for entertainment:

It went way too fast, and I miss everyone shitloads. But at least now I'm back in the apparently "enchanting Yorkshire"

And its awesome to come back home to these folk:

Last night was full of wonderful things:

I was planning on popping down to the thrice gig on my own and coming back at about midnight, so I left without keys or a phone, assuming that some of my housemates would still be up.

At the gig I bumped into an old friend from school, one beer turned into five as it inevitably does, so at 2am we found ourselves still in town, in a takeaway playing the spot the religious imagery in Dustun Kensrue's lyrics game and various other verbal diarreaisms including being far too amused at the potential phallic double entendres involved in choosing between a 10 or 12" pizza.

Half an hour later I was stood on my doorstep, greasy takeaway in hand a little worried about the fact that there were no lights on in the house. I rang the doorbell 100 times (I counted - I didnt have anything better to do!) before running round to the back of the house, with plans of throwing stones at my housemates window. He lives in an attic room, and I can't throw for shit but I was running out of options.

At this point I walked past two neighbours I have never met before who were stood outside smoking. They shouted over to me and invited me in. They were first-rate hosts, apparently I had managed to find the only other thrice fans in my town, and we smoked and drank baileys whilst listening to the artist in the ambulance. Then they let me stay on their sofa, where I woke up this morning at 11. I walked across the street to my house to find my housemates at home, still awake with a spliff as theyd been at a houseparty all night. Had a pretty interesting breakfast as I chatted to them, my darling amazing Han says shes going to buy me a phone when she wakes up. Im not really sure why as I get myself into these situations by being a ditzy fucker.

But I'm happy about all the random acts of kindness that have been happening to me lately!
