I didn't have enough time to get certified...I paid for the class, studied the P.A.D.I books and watched the dvd...but my flight was the day after my last dive..and as you know...that is a big no no with diving 
I am planning a vacation within the next year to somewhere tropical and I am dead set on getting certified then..
