ouch... WIP's....
I always recommend anyone getting into web to read this book. Your symbols are close... but still require some guess work. I'm a huge fan of icon or symbolic design for navigation... but its hard to make it work.

I’m glad to see that you are doing something that will help you get a good job.

i'm doing pretty good actually. i know it's only been two weeks but i really feel that i just don't particularly care about him anymore. plus there are way better people out there, so why should i waste all my time and emotions on him!?

haha, i'm thinking of ripping it up into tiny little pieces and sending it to him...but i don't think i could, despite the fact he's a complete tosser. and i'm sorry to say he doesn't look like you, so i guess you'll just have to miss out on glastonbury this year tongue

hehe, that would be the best job ever! but i'm not sure a degree in german with linguistics would lend itself to well to it.

I'm still settling in too... just got some blinds up... hope it brings it down 10 degree's in here. Ontario shouldn't be this hot.

Don't worry aobut javascript rollovers... CSS rollovers are so much easier work-flow-wise and implementation. At least once you figure it out. I never do JS rollovers anymore.

I mean this
You could swap the image (background image)... but it doesn't work proper without an image preloader (you still need JS). I find the CSS is better because there is no images to preload... no mistakes to make in the javascript (i.e. when you copy-paste your script you get confused why your rollovers are mixed up, because it does happen, forget to add an image to a preloader). I know people prefer the CSS... it is trendy, but I as far as a workflow solution goes, its' perfect. Especially since you can generically define the rollover position of the background image in one style.. then the specific images based on the ID's.

Of course this is out of the question if you are worried about Internet Explorer 4,5.

I'm also not shitting on JS. Learning JS is very useful especially when you can't figure out a solution to a browser problem with just CSS. Believe me... sometimes JS is your only option.

Some pre-built galleries have good scripts... I agree, learn your own... but fancy nice stuff can be done with whats out there. I had a huge advantage in the work force because I knew my JS... a lot of people know how to customize pre-created scripts... but making your own is very useful. Especially since you are a student... you can spend the time to learn the stuff; look at someone else's and learn where you went wrong tongue. But in the real world... you don't always have time to DYI (do it yourself). I commend you learning however you can though biggrin.

Have you been taught how to pass functions variables?

you could do
function mySwap(obj,mode){
if(mode=='out'){
//basically get the child image from 'obj', read the src, string manipulate to get the .png, hack _over.png onto the end of it
}else if(mode=='over'){
//basically get the child image from 'obj', read the src, string manipulate to get the .png, hack _over.png onto the end of it
}
}

maybe isn't clear from what I mean... but thats the sort of stuff I like to do... I get lazy and like to write a smart function and I can copy and paste it without having to use my brain.

Ya, the books out there are very helpful. Sometimes its useful to have an experienced individual to look over your shoulder.... but if you are getting it.. why not right. The syntax I wrote is purely commented wink. Once you get the hang of JS, it's a lot like flash AS2, so you can pick it up quickly.

Well the fairy queen took the magic drift wood and went after him, we went along to help, but her powers combined with her new magical device was to much for the ninja king, he was forced to site in the corner in a small cabin in the woods in West Virginia so he could think about what he had done, basically she kicked his ass.

ooh get you! good job on the horizon then?

PR sounds like a good job to get into...maybe i'll have to think about it. though it sounds like one of those jobs that would just drive you gradually insane...but i guess all jobs are like that anyway!

hmm...pr is starting to sound more and more like a viable career choice! but i'm not in the mood for looking for jobs right now (even though i know i should be)...sponging off the government sounds like the way to go for me at the moment!

and thanks about the set. i'm really impressed with the feedback it's been getting biggrin
