Alas, my weekend doeth arrive...The clock hath been punched and the apron folded away with great haste...A weekend of home front labor is upon mine household as I look on to Saturday's morn with greatest contempt for the heavy lifting it doeth bring forth...

"Lift with ease - straight back, bent knees..." Sage advice I found printed on the side of a vending machine coffee cup at defensive driving school...Kinda' weird place to find such a creed, but nonetheless...sound advice to adhere to.

Call me crazy, but I don't mind the rain all that much...I mean of course, if I'm aware of the forecast I'll most likely bring along my "Samsonite TK47 Super Umbrella" and stay drip dry....But every now and then, I actually LIKE getting caught in it...It's quite invigorating in a way...Once you get past the "Ahh I'm getting wet!" bit and just go ahead and get drenched...I find it kinda' enjoyable...The streets are certainly much quieter...Refreshing...I realize this is not a popular SoCal statement, but like I said, call me crazy...

p.s.

Hot coffee, an ipod, and 3 1/2 one-hitters does enhance the experience...

Today's journal entry will be presented to you in the traditional Mad Lib, format...

Well, thus far my day has been quite _________ (adjective)...To say the least, the ________ (adjective) _________(noun) that I ate for breakfast were utterly __________(adjective)...Was that __________(noun) they put in that?...I don't know, but I ate them quite _________(adverb)!...I couldn't help it...But those two _________(nouns) sitting next to me were __________(adjective) with all their __________(verb) and ___________(verb)....After that I was so outta' there...With a __________(noun) full of ________(noun), I went to the ________(noun) to pick up ____________(noun), _____________(noun), ____________(noun), ______________ (noun), and an ear candle...It's like I always say...If you can't ________(verb) then make ________(noun) instead!

Wow, this journal entry is a little light in the adverbs department...Am I not using enough adverbs in my daily vocabulary?...I must monitor this...

And so it has come to pass...Or is on the verge of coming to pass...My dearest friend...My brother and former hetero-lifemate, readies himself for the ultimate promise...Yes, the boy is getting married...And way sooner that I had envisioned...It seems I'll be heading to Las Vegas in April to stand by the throwin' Samoan's side as his best man...I'm thrilled...Good for him...If anyone could help restore my faith in marriage it's David...Don't get me wrong, I'm not the anti-marital type by any means...But let's just say based on the math I've been doing throughout life, marriage just don't amount to a hill of beans with some people...I mean about 90% of the couples in my family have done it and redone it...One or two even re-redone it...Just doesn't seem right to me somehow...But seriously, I look up to this guy...He's gonna restore my faith...I believe it...So of course I'll be there for the big show...Might even make a little roadtrip out of it...Head back to Colorado...That's the one state I didn't really get to stop in on the move out to California...It was the middle of the night when Dave and I braved those rockies the first time...Might be time to fix that...I don't know we'll see...I gotta do something though...It's all a little heavy duty...We been roommates, neighbors, coworkers, close friends for 13 years...Longer than anyone!...

Does that mean I have to get a new best friend now?

Ah...Another gorgeous day...Took a ride on my friend's motorcycle...Those brain bucket helmets kinda' freak me out, but on a day like this, when you're a little stoney, listening to good tunes on the ipod...Barreling down the 10 on a motorcycle...Brain buckets are the way to go...

So if the opportunity presents itself...Giddy up...

Just a quick note to do a little journal upkeep...

I must say my weekend was quite splendid...Brief, but in a good way...The kind of way that gives you something to look forward to...I hope so anyway...

Until next time...

My days, they are the highway kind.
They only come to leave.
But the leavin’ I don’t mind
It’s the comin’ that I crave.
Pour the sun upon the ground.
Stand to throw a shadow.
Watch it grow into a night
And fill the spinnin’ sky.

Time among the pine trees
It felt like breath of air.
Usually I just walk these streets
And tell myself to care.
Sometimes I believe me
And sometimes I don’t hear.
Sometimes the shape I’m in
Won’t let me go.

Well, I don’t know too much for true
But my heart knows how to pound.
My legs know how to love someone.
My voice knows how to sound.
Shame that it’s not enough
Shame that it is a shame.
Follow the circle down
Where would you be?

You’re the only one I want now.
I never heard your name.
Let’s hope we meet some day.
If we don’t it’s all the same.
I’ll meet the ones between us,
And be thinkin’ ’bout you
And all the places I have seen
And why you where not there.

Well, today's the 18th...Just about 3 weeks into the new year...So far I have managed to uphold my new year's resolutions...Nothing too big mind you...I don't like to set too high a bar for myself...But so far, so good....

So far...

I have reaquainted myself with the public library...The newly remodeled Santa Monica branch is truly a glorious structure to behold...Who knew after all these years I'd still be able to ace the ole' dewey decimal system?

I have also manged to use chopsticks 100% of the time when dining on any varietal of asian cousine...I must admitt, this was a resolution "carry-over" from 2005, but I only did it ever so often, when the convenience of time was on my side...Usually fumbling with my sticks only to give up mid-meal and switch to the standby fork...I'm proud to say I can even pick up the small pieces now....

There's a couple others, I regret to admitt I haven't stuck to all that much...I still drink too much coke, and I haven't really gotten myself into a strict writing schedule...But I do refer to public bus drivers as "Cap'n"...."Mornin' Cap'n"...."Thanx Cap'n"...They seem to get a kick out of it and a smile don't cost a red cent so...You know...

Hope all is well there and elsewhere....

p.s. T.P.Moe we need to go for a shot and a beer soon...What are your days off?

In the event that you may want to kick the New Year off with a some new tunes on your ipod, I have some perty cool suggestions for you...

Now my own personal collection of cds consists primarily of bands that where in their prime before most of the members of this website clawed their way out of the womb...But in the event you want something post 2000...Well here's my new "new" picks....

5. Wilco - Live "Kicking Television"

*This one was like an obligatory entry...They're my personal favorite band (not counting obviously the Stones and such) and the live cd is quite choice...Slight and not so slight variations to songs you already know...

4. Neutral Milk Hotel - The Aeroplane Over the Sea

*There's something weird about these guys...They sing about loving Jesus, so I don't know what their deal is, but "The King of Carrot Flowers Pt.1" is one you'll play at least three times in a row before listening to the second song...Also check out the title track, "The Aeroplane Over The Sea"...I just learned to play that one myself...It's oddly appealing...

3. Lambchop - Aw C'mon

*May be too mellow for some, but if that's your bag you'll want to check out "Everytime I Bring It Up, It Seems to Bring You Down" & "I Hate Candy".

2. Yo La Tengo - Prisoners of Love: A Smattering of Scintillating Senescent Songs, 1985-2003

*3 friggin' cds...My cousin drew my name for Christmas, and this is what he came up with...I diggeth...Check out "Season of the Shark" & "Autumn Sweater"

1. Devandra Banhart - Cripple Crow

*A friend turned me onto this guy about a year ago, but the new album had a full on band thing goin' on...SA-Weet!...Check out "Long Haired Boy", "Cripple Crow", & "Hey Mama Wolf", but most of the this album is catchy so you'll get the return on your investment..."Freak Folk"...um, okay...

All right....Now run with it....Like young children in an open field....
