French 75
Let's talk about my new favorite drink, the French 75:
1 ounce gin
1/4 ounce lemon juice
1/8 ounce simple syrup
5 ounces chilled champagne
Shake gin, lemon juice, and syrup with ice. Strain into a champagne flute. Top with champagne.
Some people claim this drink should use cognac instead of gin. Those people would be wrong.
named during WW-I, it became famous as the drink of returning fighter pilots... they would celebrate their safe return and toast their fallen comrades with the French 75. The name came from the most famous artillery weapon to come out of WW-I, known for it's fantastic kick.
RANDOM FACT ABOUT ME: i am now sporting a joan jett-esque hair style. i don't know quite what to make of it, but i think it goes well with the french 75. tomorrow i am picking up my new glasses, so from then on you may refer to me as the "don't fuck with me librarian."

in my fridge are 3 mostly finished bottles of diet coke and one jug of pink lemonade, mixed 3 weeks ago.
i have been working 16 hours a day, stopping only briefly to run to the corner store to grab whatever food they stock-- not much. fudgesicles, alphaghettis, frozen vegetables and tomato soup are the present staples of my diet.
i ran out of gas today on my way home from the doctor-- the only thing that has been able to tear me away from my desk for the past 2 weeks or so. a couple of nice guys pushed me through the intersection. and then lucky me, i got to walk 10 blocks to a gas station. and back.
please save me. or at least give me some intonation for these pathetic sentences.
weird thing though, i'm actually pretty happy. i like being crazy busy. i like stress. just need to make it to a real grocery store and i'll probably be o.k.
BORING, i know. tell me something exciting so i can live vicariously.

o.k. so myself and a friend are starting a tiny new magazine-- all that we can afford, for now. we were thinking that there are a hell of a lot of people entering there thirties, still living like they are in there twenties.. early twenties. nothing wrong with that, but we want to give us discerning folks something smart to read, as well as grappling with the changing identity bullshit, and all that good stuff. we will offer: really good writing (ummm.. no, thankfully NOT by yours truly) and really good design and photography (i might help a little).
