The Fool is the first card of the Major Arcana and though typically thought of as male, it is difficult to say for certain the exact sex of the individual as both masculine and feminine qualities are present. This is one of the reasons as to why it bears the number zero as zero in numerology represents the duality of humanity, the Yin and the Yang if you will. Also the number zero is a complete circle which indicates that a cycle is being fulfilled in this person’s journey. If we look closely at the magnificently crafted over-shirt, we can see a striking resemblance in the pattern with the robe worn by the King of Pentacles as well as hints of the yellow present in the crown of the Queen of Pentacles. This indicates that the person portrayed is the offspring of the King and Queen of Pentacles and has been sent into the world in order to gain knowledge prior to ascending to the throne, thus completing the cycle set forth by the parents which the number zero also represents; cycles. If the Fool has decided to venture out into the world on his/her own and forgo the right to the throne then the potential is limitless and although he/she is a complete person physically, spiritually the Fool is empty which can also be equated to the number zero; a complete shape in it’s own right yet empty at the center.
As the Fool has no real world experience, he/she has not...

As the Fool has no real world experience, he/she has not been influenced by others at this point as the journey has just begun thus maintaining the innocence of the Fool which is indicated by white undershirt, as white is the color attributed to purity. The white flower in hand suggests pure intentions and a legitimate desire to understand and take pleasure in the beauty of the environment depicted in the card. The staff characterizes the concepts of determination, energy, ideas and imagination which is directly linked to the Ace of Wands although the staff carried by the Fool is fine, honed, and tailored to what he wishes it to be, before it was energy in it’s rawest form; an idea. The Ace of Wands depicts a hand extended from a cloud presenting a staff with leaves and twigs all over it indicating that it is a fresh idea and not yet acted upon. Since the fool is using it on his journey, we can safely assume that he is acting upon that idea or inspiration and is using it as motivation for the journey.
The Sun is also present in this card and represents optimism, exuberance, and positive energy which both reflects the heart of the Fool as well as envelopes him/her in a gentle warmth to provide comfort. Sunshine also allows for growth and provides light, thus the fool is able to begin to learn and understand about the world around him/her which empowers one to grow and blossom into the individual that they desire, providing light and comfort for all whom they encounter.
When you draw the Fool in a reading and it is in the upright position, it indicates that now is the time to act upon your ideas and to be prepared to learn from the experience. It also shows us that we need to take time and truly marvel at the world around us in it’s beauty and mysteries as a child would, with curiosity and a desire to help it grow. Take some time off from those deadlines (trust me I don’t like them any more than you do) go into the great outdoors and enjoy it all. Be sure that your intentions are pure with your ideas, and that you remain optimistic when you start you endeavors to see your inspiration bear fruit.
If it is reversed ask yourself what is holding you back from setting off on that journey of self or external exploration? Are you afraid of rejection? Do you fell that others won’t take you seriously? Or is it you don’t have the time? It’s no secret that at different points in our lives we are all unsure about ourselves or our ideas, yet the sun still shines upon us which should be a good omen that we have learned from yesterday to make the most of today to achieve our desires tomorrow.
