Writing this from Germany as I am, I think you're being very wise... Winters can be awfully cold around here. How about a New Mexico/Arizona honeymoon? The dry heat would be a change for you Floridians ;-)

Guam is a cultural melting pot on a semi (?) tropical island.

First thing that came to mind was somewhere out in the desert in Arizona but it can get pretty cold there during the winter. Maybe southern California - I hear it's pretty warm there year round. Since you are in Florida, you are really close to the Caribbean so going to an island there is also an option. Puerto Rico is decent and it's part of the US so you don't have the hassles of international travel.


Decreased wages with annual review sounds strange, unless it only happens if someone got the lowest possible rating (although even then I think a lot of places just don't give a bonus and don't give a raise at all). Hopefully when that time comes for you, there won't be any negative surprises.

If you are thinking about Vancouver BC Canada the climate is also cold and rainy in January. Would flying to some caribian island be an option? I guess it might not be a big change for you but it also wouldn't be a big weather change.
