Evening ladies and germs

Well, yesterday I got on the truck after my weekend and waited from 9-5 for a load, then came back home. Today I got back on and sent in my hours, and at 1130am they were nice enough to send me a message setting my availability for tomorrow morning, so my whole afternoon is not wasted, unless I just surf web or something like that. So came home and got on the phone with Werner trucking and I'm starting there in allentown PA next friday. So I'm officially done with swift.

From the sound of it I'll be busier at Werner and have less down time to fuck around taking pictures, but I should hopefully get to see more of the country and make some more bucks.

Yesterday I finally broke down and got myself a wireless card for my laptop. Actually a little keyless cell phone that sticks into a usb port. I guess I'll cancel my hardwired home phone which sees very little use of late, and that along with not getting the Siricomm wifi service and dialup internet costs, I shall be paying the same for all wireless service as I had been paying for the various shit I was using before. But my wireless bill is going to be about 120 a month so I'll have to be good about paying on time and not rack up three or four months unpaid bills as I tend to do in my procrastinatory condition of mind.

So should I work for Swift another week, or just bring the truck back tomorrow? A moral crisis.

oh, what a seductive cheese sandwhich!!!!

I found that i like a grilled, noncheese cheese with avocado on como bread (kinda between french and itialian) with ketchup dip.... Today though found me with a hogie roll, provolone, swiss, lettuce tomato little mayo, honey mustard, vinegar, and spices. YUM!
(I'm technically allergic to cheese, but I love the stuff, so I pretend I'm not. It won't kill me, just hurt alittle.)

I've got a pretty good asshole detector these days. It's taken years of fine tuning, but I've gotten it down I think.

and yes, little black chick wanted to ride and lost his balance. I would be upset too if I loved that dog and wasn't withit enough to keep up.

I'm still thinking about that cheese sandwhich. I think i'll try that one soon.

If I could afford it, I'd take the week off. But that is assuming doing so wouldn't be an economic hardship. And you certainly wouldn't want to get in the situation where you take out a load and they have a hard time getting you back to the yard in order to start your new job.

It still boggles me to this day that one of the 5 largest trucking companies in the country can't keep their drivers moving. I REALLY don't understand it. If anything... from time to time I've had to tell Pohl to slow down because they were offering me too much. Just yesterday in fact I told them I simply couldn't do a trip to Atlanta (from Lexington) because it'd mean working nearly 23 hours straight. Hah. I like that they run me hard... don't get me wrong. Being productive is good for my wallet. But there's only SO MUCH you can do to correct a log book, and I do enjoy getting at least 6 hours of sleep a day. Today I'm doing a lot of back and forth. It's a bit annoying because I'll end up working from 0900 to 2300-2400. I can make it legal taking into account the sleeper berth split, but I'm not keen on that rule. The only other annoying thing about that is finding a place to park in the middle of the night. Very difficult. Usually by the time the sun is setting, drivers are playing "musical chairs" in the parking lots (as I'm sure you've come to see for yourself).

I heard a rumor that "they" were considering changing the hours of service yet again. I was opposed to the original change that gave us our current situation but to be honest I've come to not mind it at all. The 34-hour reset is particularly handy. But wouldn't you know it... the reset is exactly what they're discussing taking away. The current 14 hour per day rule would still stand, but the maximum drivable hours per day would reduce from 11 to 10. And no 34 hour reset rule. WTF? But you know... until shippers and receivers are held accountable for delays, the drivers will always be the ones getting the shaft.

I'm very curious to hear from you how Werner's electronic logging works out. I realize that the entire industry will EVENTUALLY be forced to do that, however I fear that day. And I imagine that the majority of small companies and all independent drivers do also. I "adjust" my log book frequently. I consider myself experienced enough and sensible enough to recognize my limits. And I'm wise enough to know that the realities of this business don't always fit into the laws as they are on the books. If I logged everything EXACTLY legally, I would have a LOT of late freight and I'd make a lot less money. And I think that small companies will be the ones paying the price once the industry is forced to go 100% electronic. Behemoths like Werner can absorb this restriction due mostly to their size. The company is capable to leave a lot more trailers at customer locations, and dictate terms to them (ie - pre-load all of our freight so the drivers can drop and hook).

In a completely drop-and-hook environment, complying with the laws would be a piece of cake.

I missed my window of opportunity to apply at Wal-Mart in Raymond, NH. They were seeking drivers for a while and I dragged my feet because I'm generally happy with my status quo. Even though I know that most logical reasons would support going to work for them. I imagine the opportunity will come around again at some point. Certainly once everyone is forced by electronic devices to COMPLY, it'd be that much more appealing. I don't know how a company like Pohl could survive. They'd need to pay drivers a lot more per mile to make the same amount of money with significantly less productivity. I doubt that is very appealing.

I don't know if I am allergic to cheese so much as it's stringy aspects when melted.

I cant' decide.
Either way, I find it safer, and nicer on the tumtum if I don't eat it in large quantities. It's the whole, too much of a good thing I suppose.
