Cast your mind back to 1966 (okay I wasn't born yet either - but just pretend)... the Adam West "Batman" tv-series was extremely popular and an equally cheesy theatrical movie was released to cash in on the success (cunningly entitled Batman: The Movie)...

The film was noteworthy for one key scene - namely Batman (hanging from a helicopter!) fighting off an obviously plastic shark with a can of labelled (yes actually labelled!) Bat Shark Repellent.

The scene stands as one of the silliest, chepest and down-right cheesiest things to ever be committed to celuloid.

Of course I (rather naively) thought that at least as far as the Dark Knight goes it couldn't get worse than that. Even Joel Schumacher's whole Bat-Nipple thing wasn't that bad...

But then a few month's ago I was watching my new Challange Of The SuperFriends (SuperFriends was a 70's Hanna-Barberra 'toon) DVD-set when Batman uttered a line that actually made me spit my drink out. Yes I though that people only over-reacted like that in movies but this line caught me so off guard that I actually spat my drink over myself...

So here's the set up - Batman and Robin are trying to escape Solomon Grundy. Firstly they fire their Bat Cables into the air and take off... but wait... Grundy catches up and grabs hold of their feet... how will the Dynamic Duo get out of this... what item will Batman pluck from his ever-useful utility belt???

So there you have it kids - next time you're up against the Legion Of Doom remember - it's always wise to be stocked up on Bat Lube!
