I’m posting this from work, so I’m going to keep this a bit brief!
For those of you who don’t remember (it has been awhile!) I manage a comic shop in Boise, ID, USA. For a while, a friend and I were trying to come up with the capital to purchase this place, which didn’t pan out (because, I think, my partner was asking for too much money; he was trying to borrow about $70,000 more than we needed to buy the place). Then, there was a window where I thought I was going to get the capital on my own from one of my uncle’s (he’s a financial genius, and has always wanted to own his own small business). But, after looking over the business’ financials, he decided the deal wasn’t solid enough, and passed.
So I’m still working here, managing the shop. Good news: the owner has lowered her price, and because she’d be selling to me and she trusts me to do well, she’d be willing to carry nearly half the new price on paper for a while (promissory note). Which means all I need to raise now to buy the place is $60,000! It’s still a daunting figure to raise, but definitely more achievable than $140,000! So that’s what I’m working on right now.
I’ve also got a job interview looming on the horizon to join a friend of mine in a local labor union, which would be a great job to compliment my current job. It also has benefits, and a better pay scale than I’m getting here, so between the two opportunities, my financial situation will be improving over the next several weeks (I’m hoping)!
That’s all I have to say about work for the moment; back to selling comic books and used paperbacks for me!
It's been almost a year since my last blog entry, and though I've checked in on some of my nearest and dearest on SG a few times, I really haven't been on here much more than 5-6 times in the last year either (not even to look at the sweet sexy pics- how sad is that)?
It's damn near 4 AM, and I'm trying to sleep, so here it all is in a nutshell:
I'm trying to decide if I want to keep my SG account. I've been an SG fan for years (always will be, from where I'm sittin') but I'm not really getting the most out of this site, and although that's entirely my bag, why pay for something that you don't use, right?
So I'm going to do what I can to decide if I want to keep my profile here up and running. April 09, 2011 is Decision day. I'm going to do what I can to contribute more (comment, blog, post pics, updates, send messages, the whole nine yards). But it's a two way street: as pathetic as it sounds, it is incredibly demoralizing to contribute with a real effort, only to get a negative response, or perhaps worse, no response at all.
So- if I get back into SG, and I'm happy and satisfied with it as I used to be, I'll renew on April 09 for another year. If I'm still really on the fence, just don't know what to do, I'll renew for another 3 months. And if I come to the conclusion that this just isn't for me anymore, I'll just delete the account altogether.
Please note: this isn't a threat, or a cry for help, or whining (though it kinda feels like whining right now!)- it's just tired old me, at 3:55 AM, trying to re-establish some footing here with where I'm at with the whole SG thing.
So there it is- and I know I've done a shit-job at following through with this promise before...but I'll talk to y'all again tomorrow, with a big profile update, and a bigger blog entry that actually has something more informative to say.
In the meanwhile, you can all do me a favor: if you read this, even if it didn't compel you to make a meaningful comment, please leave something so I know you were here. Say anything at all, so that I know I'm not talking to the ephemera here! It means a lot to me to know that someone is reading this, especially those of you who used to be so near and dear to me (you should know who your are, if you have a half-decent memory)!
Thanks a bunch, and let me just say, I'm glad to be back- hopefully that won't change between now and April 09 2011!
I just read something a few weeks ago (The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho) that was very inspiring to me, even if it is a bit vague:
"[The world's greatest lie is] this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose the control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate." (Coelho 18) The character,Melchizedek, King of Salem, goes on to tell the boy The Boy "as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince [people] that it will be impossible for them to realize their Personal Legend (dreams, goals, etc.). (Coelho 21) he goes on to say that "the force appears to be negative, but actually shows you how to realize your Personal Legend. It prepares your spirit and your will...because there is one great truth on this planet: whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it's because that desire orginated in the soul of the universe" and "The Soul of the World is nourished by peoples happiness" and so "when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it." (Coelho 22).
I'd love to hear your thoughts, Dear Readers...and if you get a chance, check out Sirkka's blog, and give her some advice if you can. She's asking for it- literally.
In the meantime, enjoy this adorable picture of my nephew:

Punk rock runs in our family (this is a photo of me at age 16 or 17).

And if it hadn't been quite a long day, I'd have more to say, but because I am so very tired, and I have to get up tomorrow to babysit my pneumonia ridden nephew, I've gotta keep this short. But I promise an embellished post tomorrow all about comics, the progress made towards my takeover of said shop, and perhaps anything else of note that might come up between now and then.
So I've done an awful job this year keeping my blog updated. I was honestly thinking about just quitting on it, but then I got a lovely message from BetteJean which said, roughly "Where have you been? You need to blog more." And so, chocking up one more reason on the already lengthy list of reasons why BetteJean is so very dear to me, I have a renewed drive to keep going. I've decided to try to make a point of posting at least every other day, even if I have nothing groundbreaking to share. I'm already doing nicely keeping the ol' Facebook for myself and my store updated, so that should help snowball the efforts here.
I have something rather personal to share today though. A woman with whom I've recently grown to know and share the odd romantic interlude recently told me that she loved me. I don't know her well enough to claim that I loved her too, and so I thanked her for the sentiment, and assured her I thought fondly of her, but telling someone you love them is a rather heavy weight, especially if you aren't sticking around (she told me she was planning to move to a commune in Oregon with her son and baby daddy just a few days before this). I told her that I didn't really know how to respond to this.
And that's when she told me that she just wanted me to know before it was too late to say. 'Cause, you see, as she told me next, she's dying of a rather aggressive esophageal cancer, and the doctors told her that even with chemo therapy, she had a few months left, at best.
And so then I felt like an asshole. And after ruminating on it, I feel even worse that I didn't feel worse for her then- I've only known her for about 4 months, but I still felt like I should have had a bigger response to her professing she loved me and telling me she was dying, in practically the same breath.
Now I'm just in a bit of daze. She followed through with her plans to go to Oregon, which I am happy for: she's a great mom, an amazing woman, and she deserves the opportunity to live out the rest of her short days in the manner she chooses.
Altogether though, it was a very bitter pill to swallow, and it weighs heavily on my mind, thinking about what I should have done and said.
Anyway, thanks for letting me share this with you. I'll be back Wednesday with a post about comic books.
Take care my lovelies; if you don't, nobody else will.
I'm tired just now, so here are the highlights, as it would take another 45 minutes to type it all out again:
I'm saving up for my next tattoo! It will be my most ambitious by far: it will start on my arm, go up my shoulder, across my collar bone, down over my heart, and quite possibly, off to the side around my left ribcage. All one design, with plenty of influences from comic books, Yeats, steampunk art, and yes, maybe a little SG! Does that rule apply to the boys too, or just the girls? Does anybody know?
Speaking of Bizzy (my brother), he and I are moving in together again! I'm very excited! We will be sharing a brand new condo! It's all due to my brother's rampant generosity- he's paying for everything- all I have to pay is a flat rate every month, which amounts to about 1/3 of the rent! Seriously! I can't wait to have somebody cook for again (yes, that's wretchedly domestic, but I love cooking, and androgyny rocks)! My brother and I make a good pair, and it will be so nice to get my social life resuscitated once more! We haven't lived together since my crippling knee injury a few years ago.
I've been listening to the Cure a ton lately, remembering why I love them so much. Also- Dresden Dolls are awesome, and have been getting constant play in my car stereo. And....Cursive is coming to Boise! February 18th, I'll be there! They're opening for Alkaline Trio, which seems a little backwards to me personally, but anything that gets Cursive back to town is fine by me.
Lots of cool shit going down in the comic book world, but this week, i'm going to plug one of my favorite comics, which is woefully behind: the Runaways! If you don't know what this comic is, you are definitely missing out. You can by volumes of the digest sized, full color story arcs for about $8.00, so you should check them out. Here's the basic, initial plot. You know how all the comic book action seems to take place on the East Coast? Well, that's because the West Coast is all locked up by the Pride, a syndicate of super-villains that have made a devilish pact to keep they're part of the country firmly in hand. But what happens when it's time for them to sacrifice a soul for their blood pact, and their kids oversee? You got it- they run away! But when these kids find out they're chips off the ol' super-powered blocks, it's redemption time as the Runaways set about undoing their parents monstrous works! Great book- Brian K. Vaughn (Y the Last Man) created it, then handed it off to Joss Whedon, who funked it up a bit, and then Terry Moore (Strangers in Paradise, Echo) breathed life into it again, but now it's on the ropes again. It's been two months since the last issue came out! What the hell, Marvel! Get to work!
And now, some quick SG highlightes! As if you needed extra motivation to read BetteJean's blog, she's spoiling us with an enticing incentive! What is it? Go find out! But beware, you will be compelled to Bookmark and keep coming back to haunt that vast stretches of her blog commentary....it happens to the best of us! And spread the word- her new set goes up on February 9th! It's a nearly unforgivable oversight that she hasn't gone Pink yet, so let's try to do something about that!
Check out Courtly's set in MR is absolutely alluring! She is a fox, and she knows it. So check it out, and let her know that you know it!
HollyStar put out a very strong first set- it's in MR right now, check it out! It's one of those really good establishing sets- simple setting, lots of variations of angle and pose; it does a great job of introducing her to the SG public, and I for one, want more!
MarieCheri is another hopeful with an amazing first set! She has what they call a school girl smile and liquor store eyes! If you are in the mood for a fun, spunky, sassy naked girl, MarieCheri is the girl for you!
That's all for now- I'll be moving this week I think, but I'll try to get back here with an update soon!
And for all of you who read my last blog and left comments, thank you thank you thank you!
It means a lot to me to know that you're out there reading it! Don't be strangers!
Just a quick update for you today!
To begin with, it looks like another great year at the comic shop! There's a deal in the works that I'm still waiting on, that would see me get 25% of the business which would be awesome. Triple the income (you know, a living wage!), and I'd get work the shop five days a week, instead of just three. And here's a couple quick comic plugs:
Marvel's Siege: Supposedly the capstone of 7 years of epic Marvel events, it's actually off to a pretty good start. Definitely recommended, especially if you're a fan of the Marvel Trinity: Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor!
DCs Blackest Night: The event of 2009 is losing no steam heading into 2010. If you're daunted by the big checklist, stick to Green Lantern, Green Lantern Corps, and Blackest Night. These three titles are the heart of the story (no pun intended) and the Green Lantern franchise is the best thing DC has got going on right now! And how are you going to follow
Secret Six: the second best thing DC has going on right now! This is probably the most underrated of the DC books, but one of the best they publish. The art is stellar, and the writing is top notch. The recent addition of Black Alice has only sweetened this potluck of awesome!
Pope Hats: if your local comic shop got this one in and still has it, give thanks to the stars and pick it up. This might be the best indie book for 2009/2010.
Let's see, what else....oh! Personal life is improving: I've met a few women, made a new best friend (a girl- i haven't had a best friend with a vagina since 5th grade!). Her name is Samantha, and she is the balls and the shaft! Been on a few dates. Was seeing this woman who has an open relationship with her husband, but that didn't last very long, which is alright because it was kind of hard to get used to. There's another woman I've seen a couple times, but she keeps canceling our plans lately. But she keeps rescheduling, so I'm not going to quit on her just yet. And there's yet another girl I've been chatting with, but we aren't at a stage were we're going to meet yet, but I'm most hopeful for that to work out! Her name is Roxy, and she both rocks, and is foxy!
I'm doing final revisions on a short story about a girl named after Grover Cleveland (yep, the president). It's a pretty solid story, and I plan to send it out in February. It would be nice be be published my first time out, but I'm not going to hold out hope on that chestnut!
And now for a couple quick SG plugs:
Reagan has a new set out, and it is awesome, like everything else she does. Go check it out and find out for yourself why she's amongst my favorite all-time SGs!
New friend and soon-to-be-SG Phecda is as thoughtful as she is sexy! Her first set went up today, and I don't think it's too bold to predict that it will be on the front page in a manner of weeks, if not days. Her blog is awesome, and not to be missed, so go check it out, and then gawk at her pictures (or vice versa, whichever way grabs you!).
And congratulations to Suri on her impending European escapade! Also, her blog is awesome, check it out; this week she's taking submissions to name her new vibe, so get in on the fun!
And congratulations as well to Jive on her set going live. She's another sweetheart that deserves every bit of spotlight she's afforded!
And be on the lookout for sets from BetteJean; not as the model (poor us!) but as the photog! Find the details in her blog, but a disclaimer to anyone that hasn't had the pleasure of seeing her photographic skills at work, be warned: keep a firm grasp on your heart and remind yourself you are not dreaming.
And that's all from me for now. I'm going to try making a weekly update on the weekends, so more in a couple days.
Yours,
-CxAxH

Sorry I've been MIA for the last couple months. I've had a lot of doin's a transpirin' and I haven't been the faithful SG attendee that I pride myself to be. I promise a nice, verbose post very soon- I 've been on the site for the last few hours catching up with all my friends' blogs, posting and commenting in the Groups (mostly the Hopeless Romantic group -spoiler for my next post), and just taking in the bevy of sexy women that we all come here to enjoy. My, have I missed you all.
So, longer post tomorrow. For now, it's good to be around again, and...
Congratulations to Viking, who has put an indelible mark on my heart, way before her last set went LIVE! Well done darling, I told you it was inevitable!
I will be catching up with the rest of you, just as soon as possible.

That's all eight Lantern Corps rings baby! And you have to wait until November for yours! MWAHAHAHA!
And here's my new Serenity T-shirt- it's hard to read, but the dinosaur is saying "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
