I think it's about time I got back into writing on a regular basis. A month ago, I wrote that the last time I'd had anything meaningful to say was a month before that, so this is my effort to try and break the cycle. Only thing is, on what do I draw to establish true meaning? The only criterion, I guess, is that it be relevant and substantial to myself; beyond that, I've no barometer just how appreciable anything I'd have to say would be.
Hence, for the evening, suffice to say that I'm very much looking forward to providing a permanent home to as many as two Ball Pythons by the end of the week.
Some might say that a couple of pythons are more than enough. I say it's a good place to start.

Oh wow, the last thing I wrote of any substance was nearly a month ago. Well, twenty days, at least. Soon after that date, my iPod took a dump, and when that happens, I get prompted to record at least one new tune and delete a lot of old shit in favor of the “new”.
So I’ve really been running myself ragged, and it hasn’t been healthy. But once again, one more time, I’m done now, and it feels worth it, in a way.
I don’t have any idols, that’s for sure. Any musicians that are lucky enough to be able to turn their creative impulses into a living don’t prompt a single second thought of obligation on my behalf.
Which is why I think the Flaming Lips’ recent Hyundai commercial is so fucking ridiculous. Man, to think I used to have a tremendous amount of respect for (Lips frontman) Wayne Coyne. Now he’s fucking selling cars. And therefore, instead of respect for the guy, I’m thinking he should probably just off himself and get it over with.
Wayne Coyne, car salesman. Fucking jerk-off. I directly quote Bill Hicks, when I write,
“Any performer that ever sells a product on television is now, and forever, and for all eternity removed from the artistic world.
I don’t care if you shit Mona Lisas out of your ass on cue. You’ve made your fucking choice. [And it’s a pathetic one.]”
If you’re an independent artist and you decide it’s ok for anyone hocking anything besides a film, album, or an artist’s gallery to use one of your tunes in an ad, then just know that you can expect no further support whatsoever from me.
You’ve sold out, and at that point, it truly doesn’t matter to me whether you live or die. I will enjoy being your enemy. In fact, I will take comfort in it.
I mean, it’s good to have enemies, you know? It’s exciting, fresh, keeps things interesting. Violent confrontation brings renewed spirit, and fresh blood, often literally. “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” That sorta thing.
We can’t all live in peace. Imagine the horrifying stagnation of such an arrangement. Conflict is the lifeblood of true change. I mean, just ask Robespierre. If you’re not with us, then you are, by definition, against us. Only the friends of the revolution will be honored and saved. And...
“Only the dead have seen the end of war.”
Spanish philosopher, essayist, poet and novelist George Santayana said that. (Don’t you believe it was Plato, despite the fact that the opening frames of “Black Hawk Down” would have you think otherwise.) Same dude, in fact, who remarked that “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Does anyone remember how infinitely ironic it was that there was a plaque with those exact words behind Jim Jones’ pulpit during the Peoples’ Temple mass suicide of November 18, 1978?
Almost one thousand people committed suicide on that day because one man told them they had to. How blind do you have to be, exactly?

Anyway, I’ve always loved the original cover of Stephen King’s “The Stand”, with the force of darkness, scythe in hand, prancing in his delight of responsibility in carrying out his mission to cleanse the world.

Holy crap there's just too much going on. I spent the first half of this week's evenings finalizing the details of the huge tattoo piece I'm getting done Monday, and I did crazy financials/tax stuff tonight. Then, of course, I work tomorrow, but that evening and Saturday and Sunday I'm working more on putting the final stamp of approval on my new half-hour track as well as doing more music curatorship. Too tired after a day like today to do anything but call it a night. However, I have pretty much finalized the design I'll be using for my 3-hour ink session on Monday.
