My theory on soul mates...
There's people that enter your life and you know they're special. Even if the Ego doesn't realize it at first, the Id, the soul, always knows. These are soul mates. Now realize, my definition of soul mates is based on my experiences and own thoughts, not at all the traditional thoughts on the subject matter (like, a soul mate being only one person or your "end all, be all"). My definition is much more literal to the phrase "soul mate".
Soul mates are not your husband, not your mother, not your sibling, not your significant other. If they are, you are a very lucky one. Meeting any soul mate is such a precious and indescribable relationship that can be understood with one look, one touch, between those two souls. There's a mutual understanding that no matter where our physical beings go in life, our souls will always be connected.
As far as I know, my husband is not my soul mate (at least not yet). He isn't someone that just randomly stood out in my life by no choice of mine; he's someone I chose to stay in my life... forever. I think that that means more, to have chosen a life mate versus given a soul mate. With time, tears, and smiles, our souls will fuse together and maybe in this life... maybe in the next... we will then be soul mates.
To my husband: I want you to be around forever, this life, the next, and whatever else lies after that. My soul will never stop trying to make that happen.
To the soul mates that I've already met (you know who you are without me even having to say): Thank you for your presence and your gifts. I'll see you in our next adventure in the afterlife.
