OCTOBER 3, 2008 @ 08:26 AM | 41 COMMENTS

Its October and I'm already late posting a new SPOOOOKKKYYY type Journal for this month...OKay Since I havent really come up with any films yet or what I want to do i'll take you on a trip....back in time... *ques Wayne World wavy flashback Music*

Be warned...this is a long one....

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

While Most people always loved Easter, and the 4th and St. Patty's Day oh and of course Turkey Day and Christmas. Halloween has always been a particular favorite of mine. Why? I don't know really. My love of true Horror actually comes much later, believe it or not i was rather a scaredy cat and hated horror films when i was a kid. I mean to the point of really avoiding them. Wanna know secret???

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
When I saw Jedi in the theaters, Jabba's Palace freaked me out with all the monsters!

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
had to convince my friends not to go see Nightmare On Elm Street 2 in the theaters(that took some finesse) and came down with the, "My Grandma wont give me money to see Jason Lives" but its funny, I enjoyed hearing about it second hand....

Not too mention the summers when my brother was off, he made a point of renting everything to scare me. He made me watch the original Elm Street in the Dark(yes he would make comments if I hid my eyes). Day of the Dead, and Aliens...To this day I have an aversion to Zombie Apocalypses and Facehuggers. I mean after watching it, I'd sleep with the sheet over my head and made sure to never leave a foot dangling.

My Grandmother, well she was an interesting person. I can truthfully say my love of sci fi, fantasy and all that was because of her. After she was done with her errands, we would go to the neighborhood theater. For me well, I was a kid and nothing mattered but well...you know(He wears black and has a mechanical breathing device) So we'd see that first. then we go to another film for a double feature. By then I'd fall asleep. I remember waking up and seeing the Alien for the first time all black and slimy and crying.... Then we saw the Zombie Poster outside(the Italian one with the Rotting face and maggots in the eyesocket)....

Back in the olden days...Channel 11 here in NYC had Chiller Theater and Channel 5 had Hammer Horror Films and Kung Fu Theater. I would love watching Chiller Theater. Also in the Summer PBS would air Universal Horror Films.

Which brings us to October. I loved getting costumes even though I was soooooooooooo monotonous when it came to a costume. Who could forget that hot plastic mask and the rubber bands that would bind into your skin. Oh and I wouldnt trust getting a costume from my mom. Nope, she never knew what I wanted...No this fell to my grandmother. She'd get it early and hide it. In Kindergarten I remember our halloween party we bobbed for apples and stuff and watched Disney halloween toons. Oh we were also paraded around the school in our cute costumes.

1st Grade I believe i was Mork. I kept falling though and the costume was totally ripped by the time I got home.
2nd Grade Vader
3rd Grade Artoo Detoo, I was sooo upset at the time. Who wanted to be a dumb droid....BLECH. I've since grown fond of that little droid and name all my Laptops after him. This is also around the time I started hearing about the razors in apples and the black van driving around snatching little kids and killing them. We saw a Black Van and ran.
4th Grade I dont remember. Actually I do, this was the year I was down in Atlantic City at a Hospice. I didnt have a Costume so I went as a makeshift Boba Fett....
5th Grade, no vader because the costume wasn't around. So i was another clown but I looked more like a Hobo....
Didnt go to 6th Grade.
7th Grade, dressing up was a kiddie thing to my classmates so no.
8th grade....a party with candy and music but nothing fun.

We'll completely skip over the High School Years. And thus ended my costuming for many many moons.

After Grammar school i did start to watch more things and rediscovered Jason and Freddy. I went and saw Friday 7 in the theater, at the time it was just alright, its since become my fave Jason simply because of the Look and his Mannerisms(this would be the first time Kane Hodder played Jason).

OF course Freddy became my fave villain. I started watching them with my Grandma and we would sit in the dark and watch them all night. It was great when Halloween Fell on a Friday or Saturday because I could stay up and watch the movies with her and eventually with friends and then alone. I also remember going trick or treating with my friends in the Neighborhood around Branch Brook Park. At that time, we covered Newark, BLoomfield and parts of east orange. Our trek would start at 6:00 and be done by 10 or 11 sometimes. It was a group of us and nothing bad happened except the big kids trying to take our candy. A few times I'd bring my bag filled to the brim and just dump it for my grandparents to have(i wasnt into candy, except mounds, hershey or bubble gum). Then when I got home, I'd watch movies. One year my brother took me trick or treating...wasnt as fun....

That eventually stopped and for a long time, October was the month before my birthday. I wouldnt really notice the leaves changing or getting colder. It just was a month.

I dont know when it exactly changed but...okay maybe I do, I was in college and I was sitting on the green watching life past by(it was such an overcast day) that I said, I want to write something. Well what should I write? Sci fi? No its too much like trek(i was heavily into TNG at the time) Plus I was the only one wearing darker clothes(not goth per say but i was certainly moody) so I said horror. ok What horror, well I wasnt into Werewolves. I said Vampires...yeah...yeah(i had read INterview and fell in love with the Emo Vamp). She's gotta be HOT though and thus my opus was born.

I met a friend in college who was soo hardcore into Horror, she told me about Clive Barker(Who? I asked at the time)we watched Hellraiser. I was floored. She introduced me to Re-animator, and the gorier side of Horror(I at the time only watched slasher stuff and my material was getting dated). We went to a Horror con and I got to meet Clive Barker. She also showed me the joys of erotic horror writing(to this day I can't get it right) and that I think is where the Demented side took over. If it was on cable I'd watch it. I loved Syndication during this period. For a time I had Friday the 13th the Series(HEY where's JASON????), Tales from the Darkside(again scared at the music and some episodes) Monsters. Freddy's Nightmares Not too mention Tales From the Crypt on HBO...ahhh it was great.

October soon became not just a month before my birthday but a season of change. I began to love seeing the leaves turn. And I counted down to 31st. AMC(before it went commercial) would run Monsterfest, a week or sometimes 2 weeks of horror leading to Halloween(I mean everything, hammer, universal, Godzilla) It was awesome. TNT had Monstervision and weird saturdays. In later years IFC gave me the hard to find stuff(its because of them I saw sleepaway camp and still get weirded out at the ending) Corman films and forgotten 80s horror(this is the era I really missed. I wish i could see alot of these films uncut).

There was another lull, I still hadn't discovered the more out there things. I wouldnt do that until i joined SG actually and met another person who would expand my darkside thinking. Sadly she is gone now but she told me about VIncent Price and other Hammer films. Actually European and Italian Horror. Because of her, i learned about Zombies besides Romero(she also told me to watch Dawn of the Dead). Helped me with my research and expanded my mind. Her Group was a group where you talked about obscure films that I had to dig and hunt for. When I went and visited her, I saw Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things(imagine watching that half asleep with your people half stoned around you...fucking weird movie) Let Sleeping Corpses Lie, The Argento with Jennifer Connelly, Bride of Re-animator and Re-animator 2. And gave me lovecraft stories to read.

So to you Gorewhore I salute you and you are missed. SG also brought me across the paths of Jovanka editor of Rue Morgue magazine(for us americans for the longest we only had Fangoria) and other knowledgeable people.

I also took classes based on British Italian Horror from the 60s through the 80s. MY professor was amazing. He broke it down by historical facts, the eras and the key players. Because of him i saw Suspiria. In class after he asked us what did we think I said meh didnt like it. There were collective gasps and he said well y not. I said, It insisted upon itself(i dont remember if I had seen Family Guy by then but I did say it) i then explained why i didnt care for it. He nodded and said its not for everyone.

Because of Professor Freitas I saw More Italian Horror films and Giallos. I also for the first time in years had to cover my face(the Beyond and the spider attack). He would tell me what movies to see on my own. In NYC there was this great rental place called TL something that had obscure films down on West 4th. I'd rent from there, go home, watch, write notes and discuss them with him. He was a screenwriter too(he wrote the Sisters Remake, I haven't seen it but I did enjoy the original) that Fall I took American Horror and thats when i learned all horror films is symbolic and if its a slasher its Freudian with its images of the Phallic or something, I dont remember actually which is which. But the subject matter wasnt engaging and i didnt learn anything new. So Another summer of American horror during the 60s and 70s with Professor Freitas. In here, I saw for the first time, The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween. These films have been around but never got around to seeing. Not too mention the idea of possession scared me(a kid would go around the hospital as being possessed).

By this time i learned that

A) I want my Horror R Rated.

B) Brain Dead is still the goriest movie i've ever seen

C) REMAKES FUCKING SUCK(with the following exceptions, Night of the Living Dead, The Thing, Bram Stoker's Dracula)

D) Most New horror doesn't do it for me. I think I'm an elitist in that regard but if its good its good.

E) Thank you for Netflix.

Also now as i've gotten older, I love TCM because I get to see older horror films that arent Universal but still interesting. They also do TCM Underground that has shown me, Faster Pussycat KILL KILL! The Tingler, Night of the Lepus, The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies(god this was sooo bad). Death Race 2000.

So I sit here looking out on 14th Street, its only the 3rd and the feeling of spookiness hasnt truly settled in yet. The weather is still relatively warm. The leaves havent really changed yet. True Costumes and candy were out as of friggin labor day but no sense of urgency. I look forward to the Pumpkin Gutting and candy gathering. I also must watch The Great Pumpkin, i really need to just get it on dvd since they edit it on ABC. The haunted houses and Parades and the Movie marathons. This year I may actually be home for Halloween with a busted Leg so we shall see. Wouldnt be the first time I was sick for halloween. One year I had an asthma attack and had to go to the Hospital wound up watching Bride of Frankenstein and Frankenstein in my hospital room.

Next week, we go looking for pumpkins in a real live pumpkin patch...HEHEHEHE. THE SEASON of THE WITCH HAS BEGUN!!!!!

So that's it, thats why I like horror? was that to convuluted? how do you spell convoluted? Do you spell it with an O or an U?

I read Steve Martin's Book: Born to Stand Up. Very interesting and quite good actually. An insight to an era i had no clue of. I didnt know he did stand up for many years.

Opie and Anthony have my laughing so hard, i stop in the middle of the street and rewind it. Jim Norton and Anthony do a great Al Pacino.

That's about it.

Sorry its late but well tired, busy actually enjoying my summer for a change has caused me not to update much...sooo the SHOCKING CONCLUSION OF LETTERS FROM CAMP!!!!!

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Letters from Camp Days 3 and 4
Dear Daron:

DAMMIT!!! It's FRAKKEN HOT!!! I mean miserable haven't slept good at all kinda of HOT, hot when you wake up kinda hot.

I finally woke up and fell out of my bunk cube. MY bunkmate bigpoppa99 was up and watching me. "You know I fell out of bed last night right?" he says I say oh yeah, i know. Our other bunkmate Sharona1881 shushed us because our whisper was too loud. He looks at me and falls back into bed. I grab my gear quietly and schlep outside and down toward the showers. There wasnt really a line really and I just waited. There is a trick to the showering, if ur the only one in the stalls your more likely to get Hot water....so i finally get in there and SURE ENOUGH 3 or 4 minutes of warm water with spurts of cool, to OMG COLD to cool to warm, to OMG TOO COLD.

By then more people had made their way down to the communal Shower area, that's where most of the best conversations were heard. I learned about Porn(alot of People like Belladonna and her freakiness and people Like Bangbros....hahaha met someone who worked for Hustler and some other places to download the stuff, also a request to burn some of my stash to dvd) Walked back up to Camp NY(much easier with sneakers) and sat in the Star Wars Chair(the chair never made it to the community area and I'm glad it didnt, so many chairs got broken) Coffee was made and discussions of what to do that day were talked about as well, some were going back to the river. Threw out the, you taking a van? *sigh* not many chuckles...I know, i can't help my thought processes, years of constant TV has influenced me. There was going to be Poker playing too which I was itching to do....

So we all departed, some went swimming. I was going to bring my bag of activities with me but again got stopped at the community shower area, this time I dont remember the conversations but they varied. I know i was there for at least 90minutes and finally made it to the pavillion, they were in the middle of a game so I waited it out....

Had some doritos(ooo so so so good....i hate junk food but I was hungry and had the munchies....now if I had Ice tea it would've been great)I learned texas hold-em which is still fresh in my head, the more i play the better I'll get, I won a round and had rent MONEY but alas lost it and was the first person out of the mini-tourney. We played for I think 2 more hours or something, i can't remember. Finally we stopped because the BUFFET and Wedding was coming up.

Now I was cooking some ribs. 6 racks actually(THANK YOU BJ's WHOLESALE CLUB) and chicken... There was also a wedding or rather a sharing of vows(i didn't get to see it but I heard it). Not too mention there was some baton twirling(saw a glimpse of that) and awards given out. I was in the Cook Pit, trying to get grills to get super hot and having a crappy time. We got the ribs out and they went fast. Then had to cook the chicken which wasnt cooking fast the way I wanted. The Damn Briquettes didnt burn or burn out quickly...soo long oh so so long, til finally someone brough wood down which gave it a nice pine smell but worked like a charm that and along with the bringing down of mar charcoal all the time helped alot. Some people got mad, words were exchanged, things were thrown, c word was used. Apparently it was already midnight and I didnt know that...Chicken had to be put back on the grill. burnt my fingers, sweated alot, no ice tea to calm my nerves so we were done, cleaned up as much as possible and walked up to the communal area for the Wet T-shirt contest WOOHOOOOO WOOOHOOOO...

While waiting for that to go down, made the rounds and said hello, received some compliments about my ribs and stuff. vowed that things would be different next year for the cooking.

Found a log to sit on and was passed an interesting mixture of alcohol called an Apple Pie, now its soo sweet and soo good. I had a full cup and took my time drinking. The Wet Tshirt contest consisted of 4 or 5 young ladies. Water was poured. Dancing and then more water. Narrowed down to like 3 then the winner. It was great. So after that, a little quiet time as I nursed my apple pie. There was a game played called pass the hat or something where u take out a slip and have to do what it says...let's see i saw alot of male on male kissing, 1 or 2 times very enthusiastic. Someone trying to act like a hopezilla with a 13th rejected set(i'll fill you in later) and weird masterbating stories(like, one person once jerked off to his wife's pic when she was 13yrs old) that got a collective ewww around the campfire. The Jug was passed along and I had some more, I was tired and woozy and it was already after 3am...so I stumbled down the rocky road back to the treehouse, talked with Bigpoppa for a few minutes and dragged a pillow and me blankie down to the car to sleep(i couldnt sleep in that cube anymore... Adjusted the seat, rolled the windows down, put on my headphones and was out in minutes.

Let me tell you this, it wasn't that bad, got a better sleep in the car then in the cube, oh yeah i saw someone sleeping on the lawn while walking to the car.

Day 4 will be short....
Loaded up my stuff from the BBQ into the car, washed the dishes, cleaned my face. There was talk about going to Denny's after for some real breakfast/lunch which is why I wanted to get on the road or at least follow the caravan(actually the porn conversation happened Today too). Maneuvered the car back up to our camping area to start packing, i am glad it wasnt as much going back. But still a helluva a time driving over the rocks, turning around and stuff. Cleaned up the campsite< soo happy a truck came by and let us put their garbage on it.

We were on the road by 11:45... GOd Bless the GPS. Did have to detour to get gas. Then on the road, it seemed it wasnt as expensive coming home as going down. I know 1 thing, my butt was hurting and I was cramping in my leg. Non stop driving through Maryland and then through Delaware, hit the bridge and all the traffic was on the northbound side of the bridge into delaware...i mean OMG it was just traffic. Get back to jersey around 3 or 4 something and finally have to stop.

I noticed that northbound turnpike was bumper to bumper all the down, it was shocking. Had some Roy Rogers chicken and Ice tea FINALLY!!!(how come there are only Roys on the Parkway and Turnpike and maybe livingston mall but not just anywhere else. Heard there delays all into the isle of Manhattan which didnt sound good for our weary travelers. But took the pike to the lincoln tunnel which actually wasnt bad at all to Queens Midtown tunnel then dropped my passengers off. This was around 6 something. Took several tries to get back on some blvd to get fuel to get back home and made it back to jersey, windows rolled down, music blasting, the trip was over. I did it. I made it through ECCT 2008 CAMPING without any hitches save for well, alot of mosquito bites and itchiness. Got home(stopped for Ice tea first) brought the perishables back in and took a shower before touching the bed, It was after 9 when I got home, it didnt take long for me to fall asleep....

And that is my summary of my camping trip.

Summer classes are over finally. I saw Santa Sangre by Alejandro Jodorowsky which is soo out there and i bet if you are High would even be better, I missed Zombie 2 by fulci, didnt want to sit through Suspiria again. and finally Dont look now, if you can rent these films and give them a look see.

I learned that I need knee surgery over vacation. Bad knees cutting into my knee, good knees is....hopefully no more pain and off for a month at least. God I should finish a script or something by then...

I've seen alot of the summer films and so far i havent been disappointed at all...Wall E made me cry...loved the little guy. Beautiful film but sad at times but loved it....I like Wall *E* he's up there with R2D2 as my fave droid now...

Dark Knight of course!!!! I mean AMAZING!!! Pencil Trick...WATCHMEN TRAILER WAS GREAT

Iron MAN AWESOME!!!!!

Incredible Hulk, Incredibly GOOD!!!! hahahaha

Hellboy II was good, flaws yes loved the characters and their comfortability, loved Luke Goss and I thought Nuala was hot with the red eyes and the mythology, the story was ok, but then again the first script was just meh too, what made it good were the characters. I also like Johann Krauss I was soo waiting for a Peter Griffith or Stewie or something to come out of that voice but nope.

Hancock wasnt bad, flaws and plot holes but wasnt bad for simple summer viewing.

Hated WAnted..TOO many flawed logic steps

Had a very good Diner event at Tick Tock here in Jersey with some SGNJers and SGNYers. Great turnout, got to play with an Iphone 3G(oooooooooooo) and then we went out for ice cream at Applegate Farm in Montclair, i got a taste of cake batter ice cream( LOVED IT) So i'm glad everyone had a good time...

And that's about it....

Letters from Camp Day 2....

Dear Mom,

IT'S SOOOOOOO GOSH DARN HOT!!!!! I mean its like Abominable Snowman in Pismo Beach Hot(Bugs Bunny reference).

Let me start with the morning. After crawling/stumbling out of bed and being told to shush cause i was too loud....i went outside. A Beautiful summery morning, already humid. My knee hurts from being tangled in an overheated comforter....and rocks and sandals do not mix...so i see there is a line for the shower. Met a few people there from the site. I tell them my real name, no response, tell them my screen name. OMG that's YOU!!! Dude!!! WOW your funny...

Finally my turn to get into the shower, TALK ABOUT FRIGGIN COLD!!! I mean no hot water!!! the kind of water that makes you scream outloud... Sadly there was some shrinkage....Hiked back up the hill and found we had some guests...

We had a tabletop grill so that was put on, a brand new coffeepot(it was sooo cool, its the type of pot they used back on the homestead, including the color) brought down by vegemite it was awesome. Then Asterlee brought down eggs...OMG OMG OMG!!! Eggs, I was dying for eggs and we cooked up some Taylor Ham...mmm delish...they also cooked up some Bacon.

I did learn that, time flies when your cut off from the world, no watch, no emails...nothing...i wandered down to the Camp No Pantsland....Pants were worn during the day so I was safe...Saw a few friends, they had an awesome PIRATE FLAG!!! I am sooo bringing a DECEPTICON FLAG next year or an Imperial Flag....There was talk of going down to the river for a swim....I was game. I brought my activity bag with me and we drove. Apparently we passed through Virgnie and Maryland maybe even parts of West Virginie, the landscape was beautiful and blue skies and rolling hills, I sooo thought of, this Land is your Land, This Land is my Land....Cows and stuff....drove under a train trestle and by the tracks....

We park and walk along the shoulder down to a stone pathway....so narrow, i felt i was in stand by me, the green enbankment looks like it use to be a canal for the river but long since dried up....took another rocky foot path.

I must say this, the Potamac looked sooo much cleaner then the Hudson or the Atlantic Ocean. The others get in, realizing I was not truly dressed at all for this, I had to take off my knee brace, empty all my pockets hiked up my shorts and waded into the water, got to a certain point and then stopped, that was enough....I came back to shore and watched them swim and have fun...I played my DS and jotted down some notes about the environment. We came back and I hung out around the pavilion and the shower area...

Meanwhile, back at Camp NY....bigpoppa99 was grilling some bratwurst and some burgers....It was hot by the grill and the grill wasnt working properly...i mean it was like a shoebox on a tree stump....It sucked. not too mention our firering sucked too...Some people wanted to throw bacon grease on the fire...yeah that's all we needed a fire smelling like Pr0k but didnt happen. So i got lighter fluid(god I love the stuff, love flames going soooo high....) I pulled another Homer and just emptied the bottle over it, as much as i could to get the fire going... I ate a hamburger or too. bigpoppa99 grilled some peaches and cinnamon.. I asked Big oooohhhhh who are the peaches for, can I have one...he said no, going to take them to someone, I was like well...I gotta know who they for, not going to tell...some more poking and prodding and he mentioned the Atlantans Up the way(so named because they were from Atlanta and that state called Geor gia). I was like cool, let's go I wanna see where they are at anyway...he hemmed and hawwwed and i was like fine...didn't want your stinkin peaches anyway...

I ventured up north anyway to go to the communal area and didn't really recognize people up there.... saw my bags of Lays regular and wavy chips up there but never got them....Damn I was feening for them later that night....but I digress...

We were all waiting for the Vegan Potluck and the Wet Tshirt Contest....It is here that my buddy who got my Dark Knight Tickets didnt want to go anymore....now....TDK was the reason I didnt leave Friday to come down....But the tickets could still be gotten. instead, her ticket went to suri I had the CC and the receipt.... The Vegan Potluck started late because of some not getting back from rafting until very late. I was able to grab a Chocolate chip cookie that gadget made OMG...they were heavenly...really really good.

There was a caravan lead by Jamielee to the movie...its funny, i always feel like this, I am sooo shocked when i see civilization outside of NJ/NY...a minimall including a maggiemoos. I think there were 15 or 20 of us waiting online... AIR CONDITIONING WAS AMAZING....SOOOO GOOD...OH SO SO GOOD....plus a cold one was awesome..

Settled in to watch the movie, saw some trailers, Terminator: Salvation. The Watchmen TRAILER WAS AMAZING!!!!! I yelled out HEY!!! THAT'S THE WATCHMEN.... Got a few head turns.....Then the Dark Knight started proper...I was sooooo giddy when watching this film...Seeing the Joker for the first time was awesome....it took me 10minutes to move Mark Hamill as my fave joker out of the way to make Heath the Ultimate Joker...He is the approximation of the comics...the SOCIOPATH...GOD I"D LOVE TO BE THAT FRAKKED UP!!! HE WAS AMAZING....I will just say this, I want to learn the pencil trick...I also laughed at the cruelty in the film....Yes I'm a Frakked up individual.... IT WAS AWESOME!!! GO SEE IT...

So after we lost the caravan going home, luckily i brought the trusty Navcomputer and it got us home...I love that thing.... Went up to the Community area for about 25 minutes but i was tired(either old age or the heat) and walked back down with bigpoppa99 I went to sleep. He went back out...my sleep was interrupted quite a few times I heard talking...some rustling, flashlight in my eyes a few times.... then a LOUD BOOM and THUD and these words, fuck I fell out of bed....the door opened to this: " Are you Alright?" a pause(now mind you i thought i just zoned back out because i was half asleep but it was confirmed the next morning) and this was the response "No." I blacked out again...

So mom, that is my second day of camp. I'll write back soon.

Letters From Camp Day 1...

Dear Mom:

After pulling a tetris manuever to pack all the items in the car(yes the music played in my head and the simpson's clip flashed before my eyes) we were off. OFF ON OUR ADVENTURE!!! Driving takes a lot of time. I did not get out of the city until 6:15 Thursday...I love NYC traffic oh so much.

The drive down through jersey took 90minutes which even i was surprised at....

I listened to so much music on the way down, i must admit, the music was an eclectic mix....We stopped in Delaware to buy alcohol. Delaware felt surreal.

Driving down to Mary Land took sooo long....I am glad my gps was able to manuever us through the long voyage in my sleek Slave-1... We stopped at a Rest Stop and had some Roy Rogers(where it seems its the only place you can have Roy's now).... Finally we took a smaller highway and entered Burkitsville....spooky town at 11 something at night...

The drive on the cobblestoned road was eerie and quiet. The moon shined brightly outside. farmlands as far as the darkness could see, some spots nothing but Tall Corn stalks...I was soo waiting for something or someone to rush out into the road...a deer was feasting on dead flesh by the curbside....I noticed it but my companions didnt. And thats when the real horror started. Nothing like talking bout Children of the Corn or blair witch to a person who gets scared easily...hehehe....

We went to far and had to turn around on a lonely dirt road. finally found the tent place and had no idea where to go. Luckily a lad was walking by and told us to try to go up the road... Our Treehouse leada came down along with the welcoming party and told us to leave the stuff and just bring things you needed for the evening...

The foot path was dark and treacherous(hehehe) filled with rocks, and other assorted things....We got to our treehouse and found out that...1) 2 people can't really stand in there at the same time.... 2) its a pain inflating air mattresses via flashlight 3) spiders were everywhere...i saw a web and purposefully kept the cover down that way....

With the bed situation settled as much as possible we all walked another footpath up to a dirt road and then the communal area....the fire was going and there were people there. Said some hellos(didnt know who since it was dark) had my named called out 3 times(Where's Adrian....HEY there you are) finally so tired me and bigpoppa99yes Ma that's his name...walked back to the cabin. I parallel parked into my little cubbyhole(parallel because i had to back in like a k turn) and tried to get comfortable without being near the tree for fear of spiders....I laid on side, my back and finally stomach. IT was sooo damn hot under that comforter,,,We talked for a good 2 or 3 hrs until finally my comments were pauses and oh yeah? hmmms and finally *snore*

OH!!! I FORGOT TO MENTION!!!...THERE IS A CAMP NO PANTS....I only heard stories but apparently....its a site area where you had to take your pants off to gain entry....there is even a PIRATE FLAG!!!!!

*yawn* well i'll write more tomorrow mom...talk later....

Ok,

I really have nothing new to add here, Still hate the people I hate....you know who you are...

But...there is a giddiness building in me....you know....that Geek expectation when the deadline is close to an event or something major....You think bout it constantly....you see countdown threads in your groups....you see the trailers more and more.... I am talking about the:

That's Right...The Bat is BACK!!! and this time his ARCH NEMESIS THE JOKER is here..... HEHEHEHEHE....Now its true I've only become a Joker Fan in the 90s(Thank you Mark Hamill) but that is my fave character biggrin

Now true, for me its not as big as Episodes 1-3(and no we do not have to go into how they were a letdown) and I probably will never get that true rush and feeling of not being able to wait...GIDDY...but I'm still excited....

If I ever do my Mt. Rushmore of Doom, My Villains would be: DarkSeid, Vader, Megatron, Joker(animated Style)
My Heroes would be: R2D2, Optimus Prime, Yoda and Batman
God I'm soo Lame...

Saturday I finally goy myself motivated and went to the coffeeshop and did some creative work...Went through my old pages of my novel and wrote down the key events to add to my new outline...

Also on Saturday this happened:
So I went down to red bank last night to try and find All Hail Megatron....and i get there at arond 5:40pm right before closing, and in the back they are setting up a poker table. I also notice some others who usually are only arond when Kevin is there, sure enough....I hear his voice and he's there, they got food and sandwiches. Goes behind the counter, talks to walt for a minute and goes in the back....

Buy in was 1k but it was a private game.... Not the first time this has happened...

Speaking of All Hail Megatron(new Issue out by IDW Publishing) I loved it simply for the name and the cover and my avatar being front and center!!!!!! Some great moments in there....

Vacation starts Thursday, I will be in Maryland starting thursday til Sunday...Seeing The Dark Knight while there.... and then off all next week.

In closing...some youtube videos.....

In Honor of the Joker, I was finally able to find one of my fave clips of his from Batman, the Animated Series. Thanks to oryon for giving me the name to look for:

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

And finally one live action of the Christmas with the Joker

And i just came across this on theforce.net....Raiders of the Lost Ark in B&W

*Whew* Another weekend has come and gone...already 7 days into July...Summer is almost over frown Time really flies...

Just a week ago it was June....I even went to a party at Zoomusikgrl's house...That was fun...Brought some BBQ....I still want a smock that says "Sawyer BBQ PIT STOP" Now that's some damn good BBQ.

For the Americans, How was your Fourth of July Holiday? Me, I went to the movies...I saw HULK!!!! HULK SMASH!!! ANGRY!!!!! HULK KICKED ASS!!! Loved it, want to see it again...Its something....I never saw the 2003 version because i heard it was emo...but they definitely got this right...Its funny...I liked This and Iron Man more the X-Men 1 and 3(3 frakkin sucks) and Spiderman 3 and 1(never been big on the movie adaptation of Spiderman). Loved the Cameos in Hulk too... Yeah I really liked it...

Then I sat through Wanted...that's a big Meh for me....*shrug* its not dvd worthy that's for sure....

Later went to a friend's house and ate BBQ and watched the Fireworks from his house, then we sat around reminiscing til about 2 in the morning.

Saturday, Hung around the House and watched some dvr then went to the SGNJ diner of the month..always fun... Sunday, had brunch with mydogfarted and Khoos at the Office in Montclair NJ. We were aiming for Old Man Rafferty's but they didnt start brunch until 11am. Always fun hanging out with those two. Hell, Its cool hanging out with most of the SGNJers and other people I know from SG...Most of them anyway...its funny, I was having this discussion with khoos last week of how when I see certain posts on SG I say out loud...God I dislike you or your an idiot or I hate you...The ones I hate are few and far between though...1 or 2....They say revenge is an empty feeling, to drive yourself to make their existence unhappy. To Spend maybe not every waking moment but enough of your thought process on ways of torment and anguish, true is not healthy....but does keep motivated... Tthat you dont really feel fulfilled once it happens and I'm like...no, thats not true...If I knew that said person would be miserable and unhappy...boy would I have a smile on my face....*see I'm smiling right now...even have a Joker grin on*

Speaking of the Joker.... THE DARK KNIGHT in 2 weeks....I CANNOT WAIT!!! I will of course be in Maryland but I am sooo there....I'm really excited...That and Hellboy!!! WOOHOO!!! That was my geek moment...

My Movie Roundup:
What else did i see? Well I watched After Dark Horrorfest Film: Dark Ride with Jamie Lynn Sigler(Meadow Soprano)and the guy from the Sand lot...let's just say...it wasnt good...not good at all...The kills were mediocre, the story predictable...the characters were defintely 1 dimensional.

Its funny, we just watched wicker man in class thursday...Its alot of fun.Christopher Lee...Ingrid Pittt.. Britt Eckland...Edward Woodward....and it comes on cable like that saturday...

I watched Gravedancers...that wasn't too bad actually. I wold've liked to have seen the missing 3 minutes...loved the ghosts, it reminds me of the Gentlemen from Buffy the Vampire Slayer....So yeah...I liked it...Just finished the Hamiltons...the plot twist is interesting but again...slow film....and it still bothered me that they give us a great premise but the follow through was uneven...looking back, there are plenty of hints but still...Not a great film...I wont spoil it though.

I saw Le Yeux Sans Visage in my British/Italian Horror Cinema class. I've seen it once before and dozed off then but this time i stayed awake alot longer. I must really rent this to watch at home...Some beautiful surrealist Imagery...I liked some parts alot. I also liked the character Christiane, her expressions of loneliness came through perfectly...

I watched Otis too....Christie Seaver from Growing Pains has Grown up...a dark comedy...I liked Illeana Douglas as the mom...actually she was funny...Liked Daniel Stern...to me he actually just played an older Marv from Home alone...Liked the Brother...it had its moments Not too bad..

And finally Diary of the Dead....I'll put my reactions in spoiler cause its a long one...

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

1st thing I will say that I love....They recharged their damn camera batteries!!!! THANK YOU!!!! That was one of the major pet peeve i had with cloverfield...well one of them...but...yeah...Ok....It wasnt as bad as everyone made it out to be...

Its his version of a reboot almost starting from the beginning of the outbreak...i mean after land of the dead, what else can you really do as far as Zombies and the Apocalypse....

Some of the characters I didnt care for, I mean the "documentarian" was so involved in putting the experience on video that when he finally dies. I really didn't care...i mean i'm all for documenting life experiences but....he didnt help his friends at all I didnt care for his girlfriend either actually Matter of fact, most of the characters i didnt really care for 1 way or the other....Its funny, I liked the people on the road more(Samuel was awesomesauce and damn...what a way to go)...the Militants horde up in the warehouse were an interesting group as well. I did know the so called National Guard werent what they thought they would be....

I can see why Romero went with the young actors and the relative unknownness...their lack of acting skills helped the film.

His take on how the world being plugged in and everything documented in some form is interesting, i mean if it did happen, they would be footage of it... I did like getting information globally as well...

The characters continually talked bout what do you do...what do you when you have to kill one of your own...OMG OMG OMG!!! I killed someone...No one seemed to get...its them or you.... it's funny, I think Shaun of the Dead is one of the only recent films to have gotten it right recently with the whole oblivious to your surroundings and being in the middle of it...wanting to be with family...moments of dark comedy, all is lost and then a miracle...I mean, I would think the Army would be able to contain the outbreak qiuckly...that's just me...

I loved the cameos by Simon Pegg, Stephen King and Guillermo Del Toro(yes they are in there...somewhere)...Loved seeing George as well....Loved some of the zombie kills...

I mean can you honestly show a true global zombie outbreak on film? I mean the budget would have to be huge...

As far as a zombie film...I liked it....Maybe because of the director i give it more leeway...I mean i've seen some crap movies...

As far as a Romero Dead Film...my rankings are:
1) Dawn of the Dead(not that remake either)
2) Night of the Living Dead
3) Day of the Dead
4) Land of the Dead
5) Diary of the Dead

So yeah..saw it...wasn't horrible....wasnt bad...i would buy it on dvd...

So yeah, that was my recent movie viewing.

Wow...Death really comes at ya huh...

First We Lost Stan Winston, A Legend in Special Effects

And now...we lose George Carlin, A Legend Of Comedy I mean if it wasn't for Carlin, the world of Entertainment would be a very different place...

I got to see him in concert at Atlantic City a few years ago, wow maybe 10 yrs now. He was great....An older couple got up and walked out. Pure Comedy Genius....I dont really follow comedians that much but I think Carlin is up there in my top 5...Actually yeah he is...

1) Richard Pryor
2) George Carlin
3) Eddie Murphy
4) Chris Rock

Another Legend gone.... *shakes head sadly*

Onto somewhat more upbeat stuff...

Well I went to the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors this past Weekend... I must admit, Fango and Creation Entertainment(they do the Trek Cons) are way more organized then Monstermania or even Chiller...

I went for the 40th Anniversary of Night of the Living Dead. Its sooo refreshing meeting people who are not ashamed of being in a horror film...of course I got to meet George himself...Wowwowowowowow. I dont care what you people who love fast zombies say...SLOW AND STEADY THE COURSE....Way more scarier.... Like people who liked New Coke over Classic... *shrug* just don't get that...

Angus Scrimm was there(Tall Man from Phantasm) and Ray Wise(Twin Peaks, Reaper) was there as well. I saw Misty Mundae. I am disappointed in the dealers room....was highly lacking....but apparently they are moving into the Jacob Javitz Center in NYC next year... Alot of indie Horror companies there as well...their models passing out stickers and posters and postcards for their films...Alot of scantily clad stuff...

There were also auctioning off their banners with the Celebs and their character and autographed....I bid on the Robert Englund Fred Krueger one(great image). And Ray Wise as the Devil From Reaper....I didnt want to go over 60 bucks(i've spent so much money this weekend its unbelievable).

I've been to alot of Fandom Events(Comics, Sci Fi, Star Wars, Horror)Horror has the most eclectic group of fans and some of the hottest ones. Now true I havent been to Anime or even San Diego Comic Con so this is just my opinion just far...I so wanna make a film about Fandom...

I watched two of the 8 Films to Die For: The Abandoned(wasn't too bad), Penny Dreadful(eh didnt like it). I also watched Eastern Promises(loved Viggo in it). That's definitely a keeper....in my Horror Viewing Class we watched Frankenstein Created Woman with Peter Cushing....I really like Cushing...I think I like him more as Frankenstein then Grand Moff Tarkin...

My 30gig Ipod died(R.I.P. SOUNDBLASTER)....SUCKED!!! It wasn't bad...I was more pissed because there was a playlist i havent printed out in months and to reconstruct it took too long(a full day friday and Most of Saturday). So Now I got an 80gig IPOD(Soundwave ver. 2.0..i mean I'll never name it Blaster...come on)...Then my laptop started going all wonky(R2's memory is giving me problems...yes I name my laptops R2...he's never failed me b4 and won't fail me now...)

I know that was geeky and I apologize(cause you know some people dont like geek talk) but that's who I am...

Going to the Bryant Park Film Fest tonight if it doesn't rain....

That is all
